TL;DR: This article examined the impact of brain drain migration on human capital formation in developing countries and found evidence of a positive effect of skilled migration prospects on gross human capital creation in a cross-section of 127 countries.
Abstract: Using new data on emigration rates by education level, we examine the impact of brain drain migration on human capital formation in developing countries. We find evidence of a positive effect of skilled migration prospects on gross human capital formation in a cross-section of 127 countries. For each country of the sample we then estimate the net effect of the brain drain using counterfactual simulations. Countries combining relatively low levels of human capital and low emigration rates are shown to experience a ‘beneficial brain drain’, and conversely, there are more losers than winners, and the former tend to lose relatively more than what the latter gain.

TL;DR: Pertuzumab significantly improved the rates of invasive‐disease–free survival among patients with HER2‐positive, operable breast cancer when it was added to adjuvant chemotherapy and chemotherapy.
Abstract: BackgroundPertuzumab increases the rate of pathological complete response in the preoperative context and increases overall survival among patients with metastatic disease when it is added to trastuzumab and chemotherapy for the treatment of human epidermal growth factor receptor 2 (HER2)–positive breast cancer. In this trial, we investigated whether pertuzumab, when added to adjuvant trastuzumab and chemotherapy, improves outcomes among patients with HER2-positive early breast cancer. MethodsWe randomly assigned patients with node-positive or high-risk node-negative HER2-positive, operable breast cancer to receive either pertuzumab or placebo added to standard adjuvant chemotherapy plus 1 year of treatment with trastuzumab. We assumed a 3-year invasive-disease–free survival rate of 91.8% with pertuzumab and 89.2% with placebo. ResultsIn the trial population, 63% of the patients who were randomly assigned to receive pertuzumab (2400 patients) or placebo (2405 patients) had node-positive disease and 36% ha...

TL;DR: This Consensus Statement is the outcome of a 2-year-long discussion among EMT researchers and aims to both clarify the nomenclature and provide definitions and guidelines for EMT research in future publications to reduce misunderstanding and misinterpretation of research data generated in various experimental models.
Abstract: Epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT) encompasses dynamic changes in cellular organization from epithelial to mesenchymal phenotypes, which leads to functional changes in cell migration and invasion. EMT occurs in a diverse range of physiological and pathological conditions and is driven by a conserved set of inducing signals, transcriptional regulators and downstream effectors. With over 5,700 publications indexed by Web of Science in 2019 alone, research on EMT is expanding rapidly. This growing interest warrants the need for a consensus among researchers when referring to and undertaking research on EMT. This Consensus Statement, mediated by 'the EMT International Association' (TEMTIA), is the outcome of a 2-year-long discussion among EMT researchers and aims to both clarify the nomenclature and provide definitions and guidelines for EMT research in future publications. We trust that these guidelines will help to reduce misunderstanding and misinterpretation of research data generated in various experimental models and to promote cross-disciplinary collaboration to identify and address key open questions in this research field. While recognizing the importance of maintaining diversity in experimental approaches and conceptual frameworks, we emphasize that lasting contributions of EMT research to increasing our understanding of developmental processes and combatting cancer and other diseases depend on the adoption of a unified terminology to describe EMT.

TL;DR: Under suitable conditions, diffraction gives rise to an instability which leads to the emergence of a stationary spatial dissipative structure in the transverse profile of the transmitted beam.
Abstract: We consider a nonlinear, passive optical system contained in an appropriate cavity, and driven by a coherent, plane-wave, stationary beam. Under suitable conditions, diffraction gives rise to an instability which leads to the emergence of a stationary spatial dissipative structure in the transverse profile of the transmitted beam.

TL;DR: This work presents a new iterated greedy algorithm that applies two phases iteratively, named destruction, were some jobs are eliminated from the incumbent solution, and construction, where the eliminated jobs are reinserted into the sequence using the well known NEH construction heuristic.
