TL;DR: This work reviews one approach that relies on rigorously defined computational models to specify the links between linguistic features and neural signals and describes one such data set in detail in the Supplementary Appendix.
Abstract: Efforts to understand the brain bases of language face the mapping problem: at what level do linguistic computations and representations connect to human neurobiology? We review one approach to this problem that relies on rigorously defined computational models to specify the links between linguistic features and neural signals. Such tools can be used to estimate linguistic predictions, model linguistic features, or specify a sequence of processing steps that may be quantitatively fit to neural signals collected while participants use language. Progress has been helped by advances in machine learning, attention to linguistically interpretable models, and openly shared datasets that allow researchers to compare and contrast a variety of models. We describe one such dataset in detail in the supplementary materials.

TL;DR: In this paper, the effects of HHP pressure on the physicochemical properties, structure, and conformation of millet gliadin were systematically studied by ultraviolet second derivative spectroscopy and particle size analysis.
Abstract: The main purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of HHP pressure on the structure and physicochemical properties of millet gliadin. The effects of HHP pressure on its physicochemical properties, structure, and conformation were systematically studied by ultraviolet second derivative spectroscopy, fluorescence spectroscopy, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, and particle size analysis. HHP pressure treatment changed the spatial conformation of millet gliadin and increased the hydrophilicity of gliadin, but it did not alter the distribution of subunits. HHP pressure treatment changed the surface charge distribution of protein and increased the aggregation degree of protein, leading to the increase in protein particle size. After treatment, the α-helices and random coil ratio of the protein decreased, and some disulfide bonds formed, which made the protein structure more orderly and led to an increase in denaturation temperature. This phenomenon helped improve the limitation that millet gliadin cannot be directly used in the field of food production due to its strong hydrophobicity.

TL;DR: In this paper, polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) and tragacanth gum (TG) were used to develop nanofibrous scaffolds containing poorly water-soluble β-Sitosterol (β-S).
Abstract: Electrospun polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) and tragacanth gum (TG) were used to develop nanofibrous scaffolds containing poorly water-solubleβ-Sitosterol (β-S). Different concentrations and ratios of the polymeric composite includingβ-S (10% w v-1) in PVA (8% w v-1) combined with TG (0.5 and 1% w v-1) were prepared and electrospun. The synthesis method includes four electrospinning parameters of solution concentration, feeding rate, voltage, and distance of the collector to the tip of the needle, which are independently optimized to achieve uniform nanofibers with a desirable mean diameter for cell culture. The collected nanofibers were characterized by SEM, FTIR, and XRD measurements. A contact angle measurement described the hydrophilicity of the scaffold. MTT test was carried out on the obtained nanofibers containing L929 normal fibroblast cells. The mechanical strength, porosity, and deterioration of the scaffolds were well discussed. The mean nanofiber diameters ranged from 63 ± 20 nm to 97 ± 46 nm. The nanofibers loaded withβ-S were freely soluble in water and displayed a remarkable biocompatible nature. The cultured cells illustrated sheet-like stretched growth morphology and penetrated the nanofibrous pores of the PVA/β-S/TG scaffolds. The dissolution was related to submicron-level recrystallization ofβ-S with sufficient conditions for culturing L929 cells. It was concluded that electrospinning is a promising technique for poorly water-solubleβ-S formulations that could be used in biomedical applications.
