TL;DR: In this paper, it was shown that there is a simple relationship between the abundance pattern and isotope anomalies in rare gases neon, argon, krypton and xenon.
Abstract: WE recently argued that the neon and xenon isotope anomalies observed in meteorites can be interpreted in terms of a common process of mass fractionation for both elements1 and that a crucial test of the proposed mechanism should come from studies of the isotope anomalies in krypton. This article is concerned with a set of new krypton data which have recently been obtained in our laboratories and from which it seems that there is indeed a simple relationship between the abundance pattern and isotope anomalies in rare gases neon, argon, krypton and xenon.

TL;DR: A technique is developed for the optimum scheduling of real and reactive generation in which all the transmission network constraints are met and the feasibility of the technique is demonstrated by means of sample systems.
Abstract: A technique is developed for the optimum scheduling of real and reactive generation in which all the transmission network constraints are met. The procedure which is used utilizes a load-flow solution to satisfy the system power equations. The real and reactive schedules of the swing bus are treated as dependent variables in the optimization portion of the solution method. Inequality constraints are met as limits on the variables in the load-flow portion of the solution. The feasibility of the technique is demonstrated by means of sample systems.

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors used the depolarized return signal to distinguish between differences due to soil moisture and gross vegetation differences, thus providing a practical advantage for a multipolarization mode.
Abstract: Analyses of microwave data from previous investigations have shown that radar signal return at Ka-band frequencies is sensitive to variations in the densities of plant communities, while the effective penetration of the vegetation is insignificant. However, data analysis in this study suggests that for defoliated vegetation, the penetrative effects of Ka-band radar energy can be recognized on the imagery format. Boundaries may be defined on the radar imagery that are directly related to differences in soil moisture content, irrespective of either the vegetation type or density. Use is made of the depolarized return signal to distinguish between differences due to soil moisture and gross vegetation differences, thus providing a practical advantage for a multipolarization mode.

TL;DR: In this article, the results of a total normal coordinate analysis of ferrocene, Fe(C5H5)2, were reported, and the mean amplitudes for the complex were compared with those determined by an electron diffraction study and with the corresponding values in the free cyclopentadienide anion.

Journal ArticleDOI
TL;DR: The use of yeast culture for food materials has been the development of yeast cultures which can utilize hydrocarbon fractions as a substrate as mentioned in this paper, which has been used by man for centuries, primarily in the production of alcoholic drinks and making bread.

Journal ArticleDOI
TL;DR: In this article, a normal coordinate analysis of ligand benzene-metal-π-complexes was performed using the data of a Cary Laser Raman spectrometer for Cr(C6H6)2 and showed that the differences in the vibrational spectra are mainly due to changes in the interaction valence force constants, while the diagonal constants do not change much.

TL;DR: In this paper, the difference of the isotopic compositions of terrestrial and extraterrestrial xenon was used to determine the temperature of the Sun shortly after formation from the difference between the isotope compositions of carbonaceous chondrites and lunar soils.
Abstract: WE have attempted to determine the temperature of the Sun1–5 shortly after formation, from the difference of the isotopic compositions of terrestrial and extraterrestrial xenon. Fig. 1 shows the xenon isotope ratio data for typical carbonaceous chondrites6,7 and lunar soils8–10.

Journal ArticleDOI
TL;DR: In this article, normal coordinate analysis of molecular vibrations was performed for (C 6 H 6 ) 2 Cr assuming D 6 h symmetry, and the mean amplitudes from the final harmonic force field showed excellent agreement with electron diffraction data.

TL;DR: Evidence is presented which leads the authors to propose the reduction ofCoreopsis cardaminefolia (DC.) Nutt.
Abstract: This paper presents evidence which leads the authors to propose the reduction ofCoreopsis cardaminefolia (DC.) Nutt. to synonymy underC. tinctoria Nutt.Coreopsis cardaminejolia andC. tinctoria overlap morphologically in all characters measured, except for winging vs. non-winging of the achenes. The winging character is shown to be dependent upon segregation at one or two loci. Both “species” have chromosome numbers of 2n = 24 and 2n = 26. The basic number isx = 12, with some plants showing a supernumerary pair of chromosomes, which apparently undergo post-meiotic preferential distribution on both the maternal and paternal sides. The two taxa overlap extensively in range and occupy the same habitat, rather commonly occurring in mixed colonies.Coreopsis tinctoria is redefined to include the intrapopulational variation heretofore designatedC. cardaminefolia.

TL;DR: Channel catfish changed from lower to higher temperatures were nearly reacclimated in 1 to 3 days, however, fish changed from higher to lower temperatures required from 4 to 14 days to approach acclimation to the new temperature.
Abstract: Experiments were designed to determine the rate of temperature acclimation, measured in terms of change in heat resistance, when fish were changed between three temperatures—26.0, 30.0, and 34.0 C. Approximately 2300 juvenile channel catfish, Ictalurus punctatus (Rafinesque), were tested. Fish acclimated to each of the three temperatures were exposed to each of the other two temperatures. The length of time required to acclimate to the new temperature was then monitored by testing samples of fish at 0, 1, 3, 9 hours, and then daily after the temperature change was made. Fish were tested at three lethal temperatures of 38.5, 39.0, and 40.0 C. Changes in average resistance time were used to determine progress toward acclimation. Fish changed from lower to higher temperatures were nearly reacclimated in 1 to 3 days. However, fish changed from higher to lower temperatures required from 4 to 14 days to approach acclimation to the new temperature. In both changes, complete reacclimation required at lea...

TL;DR: In this article, the Tl-space of all continuous functions on X and the subalgebra of B(X) consisting of those elements in B (X) which vanish at infinity is defined.
Abstract: 1. Preliminaries Throughout the remainder of this paper, X will denote a completely regular Tl-space, while all functions will be complex valued unless it is explicitly stated otherwise. We shall let C(X) denote the space of all continuous functions on X, B(X) denote the space of all bounded functions on X, and Bo(X) denote the subalgebra of B(X) consisting of those elements in B(X) which vanish at infinity. Further, let Cb(X)= C(X)nB(X) and Co(X)= C(X)nBo(X). ¥

TL;DR: Although 9 of 13 patients exhibited gastric absorption of3H digoxin, the stomach did not appear to be a major site of absorption in these studies, and the entry of tritium radioactivity into the serum within 5 minutes after intragastric administration was reported.
Abstract: The sites and mechanisms of digoxin absorption in man are unknown. We have studied the fate of digoxin in the stomach by adding3H digoxin to an aqueous meal of 10% glucose and phenol red. The human stomach absorbed3H digoxin which was not changed by gastric digestion. This process appeared to contribute to the entry of tritium radioactivity into the serum within 5 minutes after intragastric administration. Gastric absorption was reduced in the presence of gastritis or gastric ulcer. Although 9 of 13 patients exhibited gastric absorption of3H digoxin, the stomach did not appear to be a major site of absorption in these studies.
