TL;DR: A study of the effects of abrupt weaning on the very young pig showed that the samll intestine undergoes an acute inflammatory response and a reduction in plasma cell population by weaning day +7 or +8, in the absence of severe scours and abnormal proliferation by intestinal coliform bacteria.

TL;DR: In this article, a multi-parameter scoring system for the sensory characteristics of the texture and flavour of meat or meaty products was developed, and a trained panel used the system to give sensory data on 13 products.
Abstract: A multi-parameter scoring system for the sensory characteristics of the texture and flavour of meat or meaty products was developed. A trained panel used the system to give sensory data on 13 products. Principal Components Analysis of this data showed that the parameters of the system could be reduced to three independent components toughness, succulence and flavour, with little loss of information. The acceptability of the products (as measured by an independent panel of consumers) was shown to be predictable from the three derived components. Optimal acceptability regions in the three-dimensional sensory space were then identified.

TL;DR: It is manifestly unwise to avulse the auriculotemporal nerve if the sweating occurs in the distribution of the greater auricular nerve, and a useful adjunct is described for investigating Frey's syndrome.
Abstract: The operative records of seventy-one patients who had parotid surgery carried out in the ten year period from 1964 to 1973 were reviewed. Forty-one (67%) of the operations were suprafacial parotidectomies. Of the fifty patients who agreed to reassessment in a special clinic, seventeen had a noticeable degree of Frey's syndrome, and of these fourteen were submitted to further investigations. Minor's test in these fourteen patients showed the greater auricular nerve to be involved in six patients, the ariculotemporal nerve in four, and both nerves in two. The results in two patients were inconclusive. Because the starch test reveals only the distribution of the gustatory sweating, a useful adjunct is described for investigating Frey's syndrome. By blocking of the contralateral greater auricular nerve in the neck and mapping out of the anesthetized area, its sensory distribution is demonstrated. We conclude that it is manifestly unwise to avulse the auriculotemporal nerve if the sweating occurs in the distribution of the greater auricular nerve.

TL;DR: In this paper, a quantitative comparison between acoustic Doppler vertical winds and direct estimates measured at a fixed height in the atmosphere is presented, where the authors use a sounder in the monostatic mode (transmitter and receiver aerials located together).
Abstract: THE quantitative evaluation of the intensity of acoustic echoes from the first few hundred metres of the atmospheric boundary layer (in both stable and convective situations) has been the subject of much recent experimental work1–5. The acoustic echo, however, contains Doppler information on the vertical air motion and this could prove of great use in the specification of further important boundary layer statistics such as σw2, the variance of the vertical wind speed6 and ɛ, the rate of dissipation of turbulent kinetic energy. Beran et al.7 using a sounder in the monostatic mode (transmitter and receiver aerials located together) derived the profile of the vertical wind component using the acoustic Doppler technique. They did not, however, verify that the estimates of the winds were correct, nor did they record the magnitudes of the Doppler shifts in the weak echo regions between the periods of thermal activity. This paper presents a quantitative comparison between acoustic Doppler vertical winds and direct estimates measured at a fixed height in the atmosphere.

TL;DR: It was concluded that the first challenge posed after infection was that due to endotoxin and the establishment of an endotoxaemia, then the fluid loss from the gut attributable to enterotoxin could assume critical clinical significance.

TL;DR: There seems to be a wide divergence in practice about what is meant by health education, who should teach it,Who should receive it and when it should be undertaken.
Abstract: MUCH has been said and written in recent years about the need for health education in schools, but there seems to be a wide divergence in practice about what is meant by health education, who should teach it, who should receive it and when it should be undertaken.

TL;DR: Tchebycheff et al. as mentioned in this paper developed an "O" band fast PIN diode SPST switch which has an insertion loss of 1.0 dB and an isolation of 25 dB over a 5% bandwidth.
Abstract: An "O" band fast PIN diode SPST switch has been developed which has an insertion loss ? 1.0 dB and an isolation ? 25 dB over a 5% bandwidth. Switching speed is < lns and estimated power handling is ? 1 watt c.w. The unit is to be used as a modulator in a 60 GHz, 130 megabit/see digital radio data link under development at RSRE Malvern. The active element is a gold doped P+NN+ diode which is switched in a resonant mode as discussed by Garver (1). An inductive strap is used to series resonate the reverse biased diode and this is connected to a quartz standoff which is mounted across a section of single ridge guide. Tchebycheff, ridge guide, impedance transformers match the section to WG25/WR15 guide. To obtain increased isolation bandwidth a two diode cavity is being developed and the final switches will be integrated with a driver to keep switching time and delay to a minimum.
