Abstract: A system for time division multiplexed communication over a single frequency band in which guard time overhead is reduced by active adjustment of reverse link transmission timing as a function of round trip propagation time. In one embodiment, during a first portion of a time frame, a base station issues a single burst segmented into time slots comprising data directed to each user station. After a single collective guard time, the user stations respond, one by one, in allocated time slots on the same frequency as the base station, with only minimal guard times between each reception. In order to prevent interference among the user transmissions, the base station measures the round trip propagation time for each user station and commands the user stations to advance or retard their transmission timing as necessary. To establish the initial range of a new user station, a short message is sent by the new user station during the collective guard portion (or, alternatively, during an available time slot), from which the base station calculates the propagation delay and hence the distance of the user station. Messages sent from the base station to the user stations may be interleaved so as to reduce the effects of potential noise or interference.

Abstract: Background Stiffness complicating TKA is a complex and multifactorial problem. We suspected internally rotated components compromised motion because of pain, patellar maltracking, a tight medial flexion gap, and limited femoral rollback on a conforming lateral tibial condyle.

Abstract: Achieving greater independence for individuals with mental retardation depends upon the acquisition of several key skills, including time-management and scheduling skills. The ability to perform tasks according to a schedule is essential to domains like independent living and employment. The use of a portable schedule prompting system to increase independence and self-regulation in time-management for individuals with mental retardation was examined. Twelve people with mental retardation participated in a comparison of their use of the technology system to perform tasks on a schedule with use of a written schedule. Results demonstrated the utility of a Palmtop computer with schedule prompting software to increase independence in the performance of vocational and daily living tasks by individuals with mental retardation.

Abstract: Progress toward equitable gender representation among faculty in higher education has been “glacial” since the early 1970s (Glazer-Raymo, 1999; Lomperis, 1990; Trower & Chait, 2002). Women, who now make up a majority of undergraduate degree earners and approximately 46% of Ph.D. earners nationwide (National Center for Education Statistics [NCES], 2003), rarely make up more than 30% of faculty at Research Extensive universities. Although the total number of tenure-track women faculty in higher education has increased steadily for the past 35 years, this increase and women’s advancement through faculty ranks are described as excruciatingly slow (Valian, 1999).
