TL;DR: Six different cultural media were compared for chlamydospore production by 224 yeastlike fungi isolates, and the most productive media were the milk and TOC media.
Abstract: Six different cultural media (corn meal agar, rice extract agar, chlamydospore agar, PCB, Tween 80-oxgall-caffeic acid and diluted milk) were compared for chlamydospore production by 224 yeastlike fungi isolates. Candida albicans formed chlamydospores to a variable degree in all of the media, as did C. stellatoidea to a lesser extent. C. tropicalis, C. parasilopsis, C. guilliermondii and C. krusei did not produce chlamydospores in any of the media tested. Statistically, the most productive media were the milk and TOC media. Milk medium is particularly useful because of its simplicity and economy.

TL;DR: SCEs seem to be formed after DNA synthesis, but, obviously, very near to the replication fork, and it is found that under the experimental conditions about 0.065 SCEs per picogram of DNA per cell cycle occur as a consequence of chromosome replication, this frequency being increased by BrdU-substitution.
Abstract: In the present paper we have developed a new rationale and an experimental schedule to approximate the frequency of SCEs which occur independently of BrdU incorporation, namely, the baseline frequency of SCEs. The method used includes the analysis of SCE yields in second and third division chromosomes after BrdU-substitution for 1, 2, and/or 3 successive replication rounds in the presence of this thymidine analogue, leading to a set of ten different experimental results. As a result of formulating various mathematical equations and applying them to the data, an accurate estimation of the frequency of baseline (BrdU-independent) and BrdU-induced SCEs, can be made, thus avoiding the difficulties inherent in the current extrapolation methods. The conclusions are that 1) SCEs seem to be formed after DNA synthesis (by exchanging post-replicative DNA portions), but, obviously, very near to the replication fork and 2) that under our experimental conditions about 0.065 SCEs per picogram of DNA per cell cycle occur as a consequence of chromosome replication, this frequency being increased by BrdU-substitution. The methodology seems to be reliable enough to be used in other species and systems in order to compare baseline SCE frequencies.

TL;DR: In this article, a method for determination of ppm levels of copper is proposed based on its catalytic effect on the autoxidation of the hydrazone and the azine of 2,2'-dipyridyl ketone and is followed by measuring the rate of appearance of fluorescence.

TL;DR: In this paper, the synthesis and physicochemical properties of new metallic systems obtained by supporting Pd on colloidal AlPO4, AlPO 4−SiO2 and Al PO4-γ-Al2O3 to be used as reduction catalysts are reported.
Abstract: The synthesis and physicochemical properties of new metallic systems obtained by supporting Pd on colloidal AlPO4, AlPO4−SiO2 and AlPO4-γ-Al2O3 to be used as reduction catalysts are reported. The catalytic activity of the above systems in the transfer reduction of nitrobenzene using cyclohexene as hydrogen donor has been measured.

TL;DR: In this paper, a semiautomatic spectrophotometric method of endpoint indication for indirect catalytic titrations of micro amounts of alkaline-earth ions is described. But the method is not suitable for the determination of micro-amounts where metallochromic indicator are ineffective.

TL;DR: In this article, the synthesis, characteristics and analytical applications of pyridoxal nicotinylhydrazone are described, and a fluorimetric method is proposed for the determination of magnesium(II) (20−100 ng ml -1 in the solution measured); isobutanol is used to extract the complex, reducing the number of interferences.

TL;DR: In this article, preblends of lean beef were prepared using 20% water, 75 ppm nitrite, 3 or 6% salt (based on raw meat wt.) and stored at − 10, 0 and 15°C for 3 days.
Abstract: Preblends of lean beef were prepared using 20% water, 75 ppm nitrite, 3 or 6% salt (based on raw meat wt.) and stored at – 10, 0 and 15°C for 3 days. The nitrite levels in preblends were drastically reduced at 15°C storage temperature; but, after the initial loss following nitrite addition, the residual nitrite remained almost unchanged for products stored at 0 and – 10°C. Samples stored at 15°C increased in microbial numbers during storage and neither 3% nor 6% salt prevented this increase. Samples at both salt levels stored at 0°C or – 10°C did not show a significant change in bacterial numbers during storage. Salt and storage temperature had a significant effect on TBA values, with 6% salt resulting in higher TBA values than 3% salt and storage at 15°C resulting in higher TBA values than storage at 0 or −10°C.

Abstract: A collection of Microcoryphia (Apterygota) has been examined in the British Museum (Natural History) from various parts of thc world. Twenty-one taxa are dealt with, of which 9 genera and 9 species belong to Machilfdac and 4 genera and 3 species to Meinertellidae, Several taxa are left at generic level as the specimens were inadequate. The new species described are: Graphitarsus surindicus from S. India, and Machilontus lawrencei from Khasi Hills Meghalaya.

TL;DR: The presence of CO2 on TiO2 affects the process of oxygen photo-adsorption depending on the hydroxylation state of the surface as discussed by the authors, and it leads to CO2−O¯¯¯¯ 3>>\s 2>>\s.
Abstract: The presence of CO2 on TiO2 affects the process of oxygen photo-adsorption depending on the hydroxylation state of the surface. In dehydroxylated samples CO2 blocks the formation of O 3 − and O 2 − . On H2O2/TiO2 samples pretreated in the range of 150–200°C it leads to CO2−O 2 − species.

TL;DR: Sera from eight patients with biopsy-proven rectal carcinoma were assayed for creatine kinase (CK) and two of the patients had enzyme activity: one with the BB and the other with an MB isoenzyme.
Abstract: Sera from eight patients with biopsy-proven rectal carcinoma were assayed for creatine kinase (CK). Two of the patients had enzyme activity: one with the BB and the other with an MB isoenzyme. We think that our results may be of interest because the detection of anomalous isoenzymes of CK in serum may serve as a diagnostic marker or as an indicator of the effectiveness of treatment.
