TL;DR: In this paper, a muscle-fiber-inspired nonwoven piezoelectric textile with tunable mechanical properties for wearable physiological monitoring is developed, where polydopamine (PDA) is dispersed into the electrospun barium titanate/polyvinylidene fluoride (BTO/PVDF) nanofibers to enhance the interfacial-adhesion, mechanical strength, and picolectric properties.
Abstract: The next-generation wearable biosensors with highly biocompatible, stretchable, and robust features are expected to enable the change of the current reactive and disease-centric healthcare system to a personalized model with a focus on disease prevention and health promotion. Herein, a muscle-fiberinspired nonwoven piezoelectric textile with tunable mechanical properties for wearable physiological monitoring is developed. To mimic the muscle fibers, polydopamine (PDA) is dispersed into the electrospun barium titanate/polyvinylidene fluoride (BTO/PVDF) nanofibers to enhance the interfacial-adhesion, mechanical strength, and piezoelectric properties. Such improvements are both experimentally observed via mechanical characterization and theoretically verified by the phase-field simulation. Taking the PDA@BTO/PVDF nanofibers as the building blocks, a nonwoven light-weight piezoelectric textile is fabricated, which hold an outstanding sensitivity (3.95 V N−1) and long-term stability (<3% decline after 7,400 cycles). The piezoelectric textile demonstrates multiple potential applications, including pulse wave measurement, human motion monitoring, and active voice recognition. By creatively mimicking the muscle fibers, this work paves a cost-effective way to develop high-performance and self-powered wearable bioelectronics for personalized healthcare.

TL;DR: A recommendation algorithm that makes use of social tags based on the user-tag-object tripartite graphs that can significantly solve the cold-start problem in social tagging systems with heterogeneous object degree.
Abstract: Based on the user-tag-object tripartite graphs, we propose a recommendation algorithm that makes use of social tags. Besides its low cost of computational time, the experimental results on two real-world data sets, Del.icio.us and MovieLens, show that it can enhance the algorithmic accuracy and diversity. Especially, it provides more personalized recommendation when the assigned tags belong to more diverse topics. The proposed algorithm is particularly effective for small-degree objects, which reminds us of the well-known cold-start problem in recommender systems. Further empirical study shows that the proposed algorithm can significantly solve this problem in social tagging systems with heterogeneous object degree.

TL;DR: This Perspective summarizes the recent significant advancements in 2D MXene-based photocatalysts for solar fuel conversion and discusses the different roles of MXene in MXenes, such as functional group provider, photocAtalytic electronic acceptor, substrate, and cocatalyst, for improving photoc atalytic performance.
Abstract: The exploration of advanced and novel photocatalytic materials has been widely investigated in recent years. MXene, a new two-dimensional (2D) transition metal material, is gaining attention as a suitable alternative for promoting photocatalytic performance because of its flexible adjustability of elemental composition, regular layered structure, and excellent electrical conductivity. This Perspective summarizes the recent significant advancements in 2D MXene-based photocatalysts for solar fuel conversion. The rational design and specific effects of MXene-based photocatalysts for photocatalytic solar fuel generation are described. Moreover, the different roles of MXene in MXene-based photocatalysts, such as functional group provider, photocatalytic electronic acceptor, substrate, and cocatalyst, for improving photocatalytic performance are discussed. Further discussion about the challenges and optimizations for improvements of 2D MXene and MXene-based photocatalysts in the context of promising solar fuel generation is also presented.

TL;DR: The research progress of time/frequency modulated array studies is reviewed and the most recent advances are discussed, along with their technical challenges, especially in signal processing aspects.
Abstract: Time and frequency modulated arrays have numerous application areas including radar, navigation, and communications. Specifically, a time modulated array can create a beampattern with low sidelobes via connecting and disconnecting the antenna elements from the feed network, while the frequency modulated frequency diverse array produces a range-dependent pattern. In this paper, we aim to introduce these advanced arrays to the signal processing community so that more investigations in terms of theory, methods, and applications, can be facilitated. The research progress of time/frequency modulated array studies is reviewed and the most recent advances are discussed. Moreover, potential applications in radar and communications are presented, along with their technical challenges, especially in signal processing aspects.
