Abstract: Starting from 3, 4-dimethylfluorene the title compound, 5, 6-dimethyl-7, 12-dihydro-indeno[1,2-a]fluorene (IV), is synthesized in four steps (overall yield 9%). The same hydrocarbon is also obtained in four steps starting from the phthalaconecarboxylic acid of Gabriel. This corroborates the structure of IV.

It was found that the axial current and the density gradient cause a coupling between the torsional and compressional waves.

Abstract: Experimental cyclopia and synophtalmia have been reproduced by the direct action of actinomycin D on the entire embryonic brain at an early stage of development. We excise the brain, treat it with solutions of different concentrations of actinomycin D and replace it in the embryo.We find that with increasing actinomycin concentration, there is a continous progression from the normal embryo to a type lacking a large part of the head. The fronto-nasal process, usually excised and treated, along with the brain, develops only at lower actinomycin concentrations. When it does not develop, fusion of the eyes and synophtalmia are favoured. The maxillary processes always develop, the position of the bones being dependent upon the fusion of the eyes and the development of the fronto-nasal process. It seems that actinomycin D has no effect on the development of the maxillary processes.

Abstract: Les auteurs ont etudie la distribution des corps gras dans les glandes sous-maxillaires et sublinguales de cobaye. Avec des methodes physico-chimiques et histochimiques, ceux-ci ont ete caracterises du point de vue chimique. Les resultats ont mis en evidence principalement des lipoproteines (phospho- et sphingolipoproteines) distribuees differemment dans les unites secretantes. Les lipoproteines se presentent sous plusieurs formes: cristalline birefringente, spheroide, granulaire monorefringente, diffuse monorefringente. Le composant lipidique n'est pas identique pour toutes les lipoproteines. Les lipides neutres et les acides gras sont rares. Des glycolipides peuvent etre presents au niveau des differentes unites secretantes de la glande sereuse.

Abstract: Studies and comparison of the hexosamine and hydroxyprolin production by fibroblasts cultivated in vitro at different oxygen concentrations. The results show that the highest hexosamine production occurs at a low oxygen concentration (5%). The highest hydroxyprolin production occurs at 20% O2; this oxygen concentration is considered as an hyperoxic one for fibroblasts cultivated in vitro. Besides it has been ascertained that the highest sulphated MPS production occurs between 5 and 20% oxygen without any significant variation.

The 6-methyl-derivative of II is also obtained in a similar way.
