TL;DR: In this paper, the problem of simultaneous approximation of a compact set of functions by an element of a convex set is considered in an arbitrary normed space and then in three particular function spaces.

TL;DR: In this article, a multi-configuration approach was used for the Li2 ground state in the region between 5 and 30 au, where the wave function of the valence pair in its natural expansion form was compared with its asymptotic counterpart.

TL;DR: In this article, an experimental investigation has been carried out to study the diffraction losses and the field configuration in microwave spherical Fabry-Perot interferometers, used as transmission resonators, in the confocal configuration.
Abstract: An experimental investigation has been carried out to study the diffraction losses and the field configuration in microwave spherical Fabry-Perot interferometers, used as transmission resonators, in the confocal configuration. We have used an accurate and sensitive technique that allowed us to use very weak coupling and to record the mode patterns with negligible perturbation of the e.m. field inside the resonator. In this wayQ-values of the expected order of magnitude have been measured. The relative field distributions of the electric field inside the interferometer have been recorded for the fundamentalTEM00 and theTEM01 andTEM02 symmetric modes, at the wavelengths of 8.3 and 13.6 mm. The experimental results have been compared to those predicted by the theory, showing good agreement.

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors present a theoretical analysis of the stress induced in the soil by a linearly loaded RECTANGULAR AREA at the surface of a large, inhospitable, and homogeneous mass of ELASTIC, ISOTROPIC, HOMOGENEOUS SOIL.
Abstract: THE THEORETICAL DETERMINATION OF THE STRESSES INDUCED IN THE SOIL BY A LINEARLY LOADED RECTANGULAR AREA AT THE SURFACE OF A SEMI-INFINITE MASS OF ELASTIC, ISOTROPIC, HOMOGENEOUS SOIL IS PRESENTED. THIS IS USEFUL FOR DETERMINING THE SETTLEMENT OF BUILDINGS, DAMS, AND RETAINING WALLS. THE STRESS COEFFICIENTS HAVE BEEN CALCULATED FOR POINTS LOCATED UNDER THE CENTER AND THE CORNERS OF THE RECTANGLE BY INTEGRATION OF THE BOUSSINESQ AND CERRUTI FORMULAS FOR THE STRESSES DUE TO A SINGLE LOAD, EITHER NORMAL OR TANGENTIAL. THE NUMERICAL VALUES OF THE RECTANGULAR AREA ARE LISTED AS A FUNCTION OF THE RATIO OF THE SIDES OF THE RECTANGLE. A PRACTICAL EXAMPLE IS GIVEN. THE MAIN FEATURES OF THE THEORETICAL ANALYSIS ARE GIVEN WITHOUT GOING INTO THE DETAILS OF THE CALCULATIONS. /ASCE/

TL;DR: This paper represents an attempt at unification and generalization of developments of extensible programming languages, reflecting a specific perspective on their present direction of evolution.
Abstract: The development of extensible programming languages is currently an extremely active area of research, and one which is considered very promising by a broad segment of the computing community. This paper represents an attempt at unification and generalization of these developments, reflecting a specific perspective on their present direction of evolution. The principal influences on this work are cited in the bibliography, and the text itself is devoid of references. This is indicative of the recurring difficulty of attributing the basic ideas in this area to any single source; from the start, the development effort has been characterized by an exceptional interchange of ideas.
