TL;DR: In this paper, it is shown that for the classical model where spin-bath interactions are described by stochastic Langevin fields and spin-spin interactions are treated within the mean-field approximation (MFA), such a LLB equation can be derived exactly from the Fokker-Planck equation, if the external conditions change slowly enough.
Abstract: A macroscopic equation of motion for the magnetization of a ferromagnet at elevated temperatures should contain both transverse and longitudinal relaxation terms and interpolate between the Landau-Lifshitz equation at low temperatures and the Bloch equation at high temperatures. It is shown that for the classical model where spin-bath interactions are described by stochastic Langevin fields and spin-spin interactions are treated within the mean-field approximation (MFA), such a ``Landau-Lifshitz-Bloch'' (LLB) equation can be derived exactly from the Fokker-Planck equation, if the external conditions change slowly enough. For weakly anisotropic ferromagnets within the MFA the LLB equation can be written in a macroscopic form based on the free-energy functional interpolating between the Landau free energy near ${\mathrm{T}}_{\mathrm{C}}$ and the ``micromagnetic'' free energy, which neglects changes of the magnetization magnitude |M|, at low temperatures.

01 Apr 1999TL;DR: A programmable networking model is presented that provides a common framework for understanding the state-of-the-art in programmable networks and a simple qualitative comparison of the surveyed work is presented.
Abstract: In this paper we present a programmable networking model that provides a common framework for understanding the state-of-the-art in programmable networks. A number of projects are reviewed and discussed against a set of programmable network characteristics. We believe that a number of important innovations are creating a paradigm shift in networking leading to higher levels of network programmability. These innovations include the separation between transmission hardware and control software, availability of open programmable network interfaces, accelerated virtualization of networking infrastructure, rapid creation and deployment of new network services and environments for resource partitioning and coexistence of multiple distinct network architectures. We present a simple qualitative comparison of the surveyed work and make a number of observations about the direction of the field.

TL;DR: This study aims to provide a comprehensive overview of models and analytical methods for SARs, to evaluate these theoretically and empirically, and to suggest a more consistent approach for the treatment of species–area data.
Abstract: Aim The aims of this study are to resolve terminological confusion around different types of species–area relationships (SARs) and their delimitation from species sampling relationships (SSRs), to provide a comprehensive overview of models and analytical methods for SARs, to evaluate these theoretically and empirically, and to suggest a more consistent approach for the treatment of species–area data.

TL;DR: In this paper, an analysis of the state and development of the Central Baltic Sea ecosystem integrating hydroclimatic, nutrient, phyto-and zooplankton as well as fisheries data is presented.
Abstract: Marine ecosystems such as the Baltic Sea are currently under strong atmospheric and anthropogenic pressure. Besides natural and human-induced changes in climate, major anthropogenic drivers such as overfishing and anthropogenic eutrophication are significantly affecting ecosystem structure and function. Recently, studies demonstrated the existence of alternative stable states in various terrestrial and aquatic ecosystems. These so-called ecosystem regime shifts have been explained mainly as a result of multiple causes, e.g. climatic regime shifts, overexploitation or a combination of both. The occurrence of ecosystem regime shifts has important management implications, as they can cause significant losses of ecological and economic resources. Because of hysteresis in ecosystem responses, restoring regimes considered as favourable may require drastic and expensive management actions. Also the Baltic Sea, the largest brackish water body in the world ocean, and its ecosystems are strongly affected by atmospheric and anthropogenic drivers. Here, we present results of an analysis of the state and development of the Central Baltic Sea ecosystem integrating hydroclimatic, nutrient, phyto- and zooplankton as well as fisheries data. Our analyses of 52 biotic and abiotic variables using multivariate statistics demonstrated a major reorganization of the ecosystem and identified two stable states between 1974 and 2005, separated by a transition period in 1988-1993. We show the change in Baltic ecosystem structure to have the characteristics of a discontinuous regime shift, initiated by climate-induced changes in the abiotic environment and stabilized by fisheries-induced feedback loops in the food web. Our results indicate the importance of maintaining the resilience of an ecosystem to atmospherically induced environmental change by reducing the anthropogenic impact.

TL;DR: The present data are consistent with the pure scalar hypothesis, while disfavoring the pure pseudoscalar hypothesis.
Abstract: A study is presented of the mass and spin-parity of the new boson recently observed at the LHC at a mass near 125 GeV. An integrated luminosity of 17.3 fb^(-1), collected by the CMS experiment in proton-proton collisions at center-of-mass energies of 7 and 8 TeV, is used. The measured mass in the ZZ channel, where both Z bosons decay to e or μ pairs, is 126.2±0.6(stat)±0.2(syst) GeV. The angular distributions of the lepton pairs in this channel are sensitive to the spin-parity of the boson. Under the assumption of spin 0, the present data are consistent with the pure scalar hypothesis, while disfavoring the pure pseudoscalar hypothesis.
