TL;DR: The theory of electromagnetic fluctuations as developed by Rytov was used to calculate the radiant power as a function of frequency radiated from a homogeneous isothermal sphere and it is shown that the emission coefficient computed is precisely equal to the absorption coefficient computed from the Mie theory.
Abstract: The theory of electromagnetic fluctuations as developed by Rytov was used to calculate the radiant power as a function of frequency radiated from a homogeneous isothermal sphere. The formula obtained is valid for all radii, frequencies, and complex dielectric constants. It is also shown that the emission coefficient computed from this theory is precisely equal to the absorption coefficient computed from the Mie theory. The formula obtained is readily adaptable to numerical calculations, and results are presented for the case of a good conducting sphere with a wide range of size parameters.

TL;DR: All naturally occurring and synthetic chromenes studied exhibit photochromism at — 196°C and in some cases at room temperature, and Lapachenole (a 7,8‐benzochromene) shows the most rapid and highest percentage conversion to the colored form and no emission.
Abstract: — –All naturally occurring and synthetic chromenes studied exhibit photochromism at — 196°C and in some cases at room temperature. Chromenes containing a coumarin moiety have the least photochemistry and also exhibit the strongest emissions. Chromenes containing a hydroxyl group ortho to an acetyl group exhibit solely a phosphorescence. Lapachenole (a 7,8-benzochromene) shows the most rapid and highest percentage conversion to the colored form and no emission. Photocolored form of evodione can be produced by a triplet energy transfer from benzophenone.

TL;DR: In this article, a central drillhole passes through nearly 1080ft of slump and fallback breccia into 655 ft of rupture zone bedrock below a well-defined crater base.
Abstract: West Hawk Lake is a near-circular, 11,700-ft -wide, deep lake located 110 mi east of Winnipeg, Canada. The lake now completely submerges an ancient meteorite impact crater. A central drillhole passes through nearly 1080ft of slump and fallback breccia into 655 ft of rupture zone bedrock below a well-defined crater base. Petrographic analysis of core from this hole, a hole near the original crater rim, and an off-center hole reveals numerous shock features which, supplementing earlier geophysical studies, demonstrate an impact origin for this structure. These results are significant: (1) The original crater was approximately 8000 ft wide; the rim has recessed by erosion; the target rock consists of steeply dipping units of metasediments and metavolcanics. (2) Microscope criteria for shock include: abundant planar features in quartz; diagnostic parallel extension fractures; extensive isotropization of tectosilicates in quartz-mica schists (analcite is a common product of recrystallization of the isotropized phases); variable decomposition of biotite and actinolite; abundant glassy fragments and matrix-binding “melt,” now generally devitrified; shock-induced twinning and granulation in pre-impact carbonates. (3) Distribution of shock features is strongly dependent on mineral composition and particle size. Unless intensely shocked, amphibole-rich rocks are usually devoid of shock evidence, even where fragments are intermixed with shocked schistose metasediments. (4) The vertical distribution within the central hole core of intensity of shock in the breccias, as plotted on a shock log, is notably erratic. (5) Autobrecciation, cataclastic fragmentation, and injection of shocked breccia into open fractures account for observed effects in the rupture zone. (6) Zoisite and secondary calcite develop extensively within the breccia lens by solution and neo-mineralization; serpentine var. antigorite forms with the breccia matrix, and in a network of veinlets in fragments and in the rupture zone; sodium-calcium zeolites form in possibly replaced melt material at the crater base. (7) Analysis of strongly shocked rock fragments from the breccias by infrared absorption, X-ray fluorescence, electron microprobe, and argon loss methods demonstrates significant changes in the crystal structure and chemistry of constituent minerals in these materials as compared with unshocked equivalents collected off-structure. West Hawk Lake is compared with the Brent structure, the best-studied model of a simple impact crater in crystalline rocks.

TL;DR: In this paper, a coating with silicone oil SF-96 and dinonyl phthalate of capillaries first treated with silylation reagents containing different functional groups yields columns whose efficiencies and film thicknesses depend on the polarity of the group.
Abstract: The coating with silicone oil SF-96 and dinonyl phthalate of capillaries first treated with silylation reagents containing different functional groups yields columns whose efficiencies and film, thicknesses depend on the polarity of the group. Some improvement in dinonyl phthalate column properties was observed if the glass was previously, treated with allyl-or phenyltrichlorosilane, but best results were obtained for this phase when the allyltrichlorosilanized glass capillaries were further treated with oxygen at high temperature.

TL;DR: This is the first report of naturally occuring methyl esters of long-chain fatty acids being present in fungal mycelium, with a preference for incorporation of unsaturated acids into the complex lipids, with the exception of the triglycerides.
Abstract: The lipids of Rhizopus arrhizus Fischer mycelia and sporangiospores were extracted, isolated, and separated by thin-layer, liquid, and gas chromatography. Structural confirmations of the compounds were made by a gas chromatographmass spectrometer combination. The n-heptane fraction contained squalene (1%) as a major hydrocarbon constituent. Other major lipid classes detected were free fatty acids, naturally occurring methyl esters of fatty acids, triglycerides, sterols, and polar lipids. The polar lipids (44.4%) were found in the highest concentrations, and the triglycerides (22.1%), sterols (16.7%), and free fatty acids (11.7%) were present in lesser concentrations. This is the first report of naturally occuring methyl esters of long-chain fatty acids being present in fungal mycelium. There appears to be a preference for incorporation of unsaturated acids into the complex lipids, with the exception of the triglycerides. The major saturated fatty acids in the mycelium were palmitic (C(16)) and arachidic (C(20)), whereas the major unsaturated acids were oleic (C(18:1)) and linoleic (C(18:2)), respectively.

TL;DR: The use of the terms Negro and Black by certain of the more verbal segments of the population has been a divisive influence on the African-American community as mentioned in this paper, and it has been used to denote the "Uncle Toms," or integrationist individuals of African descent, while the latter term is used to signify those who have undergone a "rebirth" in terms of Black pride.
Abstract: While in recent years Blacks have tended to become more unified at one level, there are indications that there are polarizing influences operating at another level. This influence may be felt in the differential use of the terms Negro and Black by certain of the more verbal segments of the population. The former is utilized to denote the "Uncle Toms," or integrationist individuals of African descent, while the latter term is used to denote those who have undergone a "rebirth" in terms of Black pride. The "Toms" are often derogatorily referred to as "middle class," and in contrast there is a glorification of "our roots," which by implication means the lower classes and the folk families. Implicit in this new usage is the accompanying idea that all persons of African descent were unaware of their history and sought escape from any form of "Negro" connection. As a result, the stage is being set for a confrontation of diversity among persons of African descent within the United States.
