TL;DR: The composition of the wall of each form was found to be constant, irrespective of growth conditions, except for some variation in the amounts of mannose and glucose in wall hydrolysates.
Abstract: SUMMARY: Cell walls were obtained from the mycelial and blastospore forms of Candida albicans; these were delipidized and separated into alkali-soluble and alkali-insoluble fractions. The detailed composition of these fractions was determined in organisms grown on different media at 37° and on the same medium at different temperatures (blastospores 30°, mycelium 40°). The composition of the wall of each form was found to be constant, irrespective of growth conditions, except for some variation in the amounts of mannose and glucose in wall hydrolysates. The alkali-insoluble fraction from the mycelial form contained 3 times as much chitin as that from blastospores and only about one third as much protein. The protein from these two fractions showed marked differences in amino acid composition. Differences between the two morphological forms in the amounts of carbohydrate and protein in the alkali-soluble fractions were also found. The results are discussed in relation to other studies of cell-wall composition in the dimorphic

TL;DR: In this paper, a control apparatus for folding a flat workpiece comprising a first detector and transmitter unit is described, which is used to detect and measure a dimension of a travelling workpiece and transmit a signal whose value is representative of said dimension to a first memory store arranged to accept said signal, and a second transmitter arranged to transmit to said second memory store a further and cumulative signal representative of the passage of said workpiece relative to a folding station.
Abstract: A control apparatus for use with a machine for folding a flat workpiece comprising a first detector and transmitter unit arranged to detect and measure a dimension of a travelling workpiece and transmit a signal whose value is representative of said dimension to a first memory store arranged to accept said signal, means for transferring at least part of said signal in the first memory store from said first store to a second memory store, and a second transmitter arranged to transmit to said second memory store a further and cumulative signal representative of the passage of said workpiece relative to a folding station, said second memory store being arranged to initiate a folding operation when the required length of workpiece has passed said folding station.

TL;DR: Known incidence of Self-aggressive acts (S.A.) Between 1962 and 1964, 341 cases of S.As were admitted to the unit, of which 222 were female and 119 male, yielding a male/female ratio of 1 : 1.
Abstract: Known incidence of Self-aggressive acts (S.A.) Between 1962 and 1964, 341 cases of S.As were admitted to our S.A. unit. Of these 222 were female (65 per cent) and 119 male (35 per cent), yielding a male/female ratio of 1 : 1.8. Over the same period there occurred 67 suicides in the Halifax district, of which 38 were men (57 per cent) and 29 women (43 per cent). Thus the ratio of suicides to known S.As would be 67 : 341 or roughly 1 : 5. Some self-aggressors are never referred to hospital or the psychiatrist, because the attempts were deemed too trivial by the general practitioner, or owing to the family’s reluctance of publicity. Just how many of these camouflaged S.As occur each year is a matter for speculation, though Prof. Stengel’s questionnaire to family doctors, urging full disclosure, may have shed some additional light on this matter.

TL;DR: A relief valve for use as a pilot valve especially but not exclusively in a pump relief valve arrangement and comprising a valve casing with a through-flow passage therethrough for passage of a controlled fluid, a parallel slide valve housed in the casing and slidable relative to the passage to open or close same to allow or prevent flow of the controlled fluid as mentioned in this paper.
Abstract: A relief valve for use as a pilot valve especially but not exclusively in a pump relief valve arrangement and comprising a valve casing with a through-flow passage therethrough for passage of a controlled fluid, a parallel slide valve housed in the casing and slidable relative to the passage to open or close same to allow or prevent flow of the controlled fluid, a spindle passing through a sealing means into the valve casing and connected to the parallel slide valve, and a device for loading the spindle and consequently the parallel slide valve and comprising a housing connected to the valve casing and enclosing a fluid-loaded diaphragm and piston assembly, a piston rod between the diaphragm and piston assembly and the spindle to transmit movements of the assembly to the spindle, and an inlet in the housing for the loading fluid at that side of the housing remote from the valve casing.
