TL;DR: The heat content of lava is such that if roughly equal volumes of lava and water are rapidly mixed, the resulting pressure may be enough to cause further dynamic mixing of a lava flow under the ocean leading to a catastrophic explosion as mentioned in this paper.
Abstract: The heat content of lava is such that if roughly equal volumes of lava and water are rapidly mixed, the resulting pressure may be enough to cause further dynamic mixing of a lava flow under the ocean leading to a catastrophic explosion. The same mechanism of self-sustained mixing may explain several foundry explosions of liquid metal and water, and others of large volumes of liquid natural gas and water where the water serves as the hot fluid. The Krakatao volcanic explosion, equivalent to 200 megatons, may have the same explanation.

TL;DR: Aerometric studies concerning the level of atmospheric mercury were conducted at a number of sites in Iceland during June and July 1972 as discussed by the authors, and samples from widely separated locations yielded Hg concentrations well above the range commonly cited for unpolluted air.
Abstract: Aerometric studies concerning the level of atmospheric mercury were conducted at a number of sites in Iceland during June and July 1972. Samples from widely separated locations yielded Hg concentrations well above the range commonly cited for unpolluted air. Atmospheric mercury may be introduced in part by degassing fluid magmas. However, the release from fine ash could also serve as a vehicle. It is pointed out that from the mid-17th century to the present, Iceland has recorded nearly 50 volcanic eruptions.

TL;DR: An unusually high incidence of carcinoma of the small intestine found in Icelandic sheep, i.e. 0.97 %, was found, and the tumours were situated in the jejunum and upper ileum.
Abstract: This paper deals with an unusually high incidence, ie 097 % of carcinoma of the small intestine found in Icelandic sheep The tumours were situated in the jejunum and upper ileum The macroscopic and microscopic pathology is described and compared with carcinoma of the small intestine of domestic animals and humans Aetiological factors are discussed and the possibility of exposure to carcinogenic substances, especially nitrosamines in food concentrates, is suggested Finally these findings are discussed in relation to current ideas on carcinogenesis in the intestines

TL;DR: In this paper, the expected distribution of net magnetic moments, as measured for a randomized assemblage of magnetic dipoles whose magnitudes have a lognormal distribution, is derived.
Abstract: The expected distribution of net magnetic moments, as measured for a randomized assemblage of magnetic dipoles whose magnitudes have a lognormal distribution, is derived. The results are compared with experiments on rock chips. DOI: 10.1111/j.2153-3490.1973.tb00614.x

TL;DR: There was a significant association between enuresis and thumb sucking, undisciplined and negativistic behaviour, and adjustment and behaviour difficulties in school, and a positively related to emotional disorder.
Abstract: Bjornsson, S. 1973. Enuresis in Childhood. Scand. J. educ. Res. 17, 63‐82. In a representative sample of children in Reykjavik aged 5‐15 years the morbidity risk of enuresis amounted to 12.5% and the incidence to 7.5%. Enuresis was positively related to emotional disorder. There was a significant association between enuresis and thumb sucking, undisciplined and negativistic behaviour, and adjustment and behaviour difficulties in school. Enuretics in the age group 10‐15 years had a significantly lower I.Q. than non‐enuretic children. This symptom was more frequently found in the lower socio‐economic classes, in big families, where the maternal attitudes were characterized by coldness and inconsbtency, and where the father was frequently absent from home because of his work.
