Abstract: Kernel principal component analysis (KPCA) is investigated for feature extraction from hyperspectral remote sensing data. Features extracted using KPCA are classified using linear support vector machines. In one experiment, it is shown that kernel principal component features are more linearly separable than features extracted with conventional principal component analysis. In a second experiment, kernel principal components are used to construct the extended morphological profile (EMP). Classification results, in terms of accuracy, are improved in comparison to original approach which used conventional principal component analysis for constructing the EMP. Experimental results presented in this paper confirm the usefulness of the KPCA for the analysis of hyperspectral data. For the one data set, the overall classification accuracy increases from 79% to 96% with the proposed approach.

Abstract: A model of 3+1 dimensional gravity with negative cosmological constant coupled to abelian gauge fields has been proposed as a gravity dual for Lifshitz like critical phenomena in 2+1 dimensions. The finite temperature behavior is described by black holes that are asymptotic to the Lifshitz fixed point geometry. There is a one-parameter family of charged black holes, where the magnitude of the charge is uniquely determined by the black hole area. These black holes are thermodynamically stable and become extremal in the limit of vanishing size. The theory also has a discrete spectrum of localized objects described by non-singular spacetime geometries. The finite temperature behavior of Wilson loops is reminiscent of strongly coupled gauge theories in 3+1 dimensions, including screening at large distances.

Abstract: Feature extraction is known to be an effective way in both reducing computational complexity and increasing accuracy of hyperspectral image classification. In this paper, a simple yet quite powerful feature extraction method based on image fusion and recursive filtering (IFRF) is proposed. First, the hyperspectral image is partitioned into multiple subsets of adjacent hyperspectral bands. Then, the bands in each subset are fused together by averaging, which is one of the simplest image fusion methods. Finally, the fused bands are processed with transform domain recursive filtering to get the resulting features for classification. Experiments are performed on different hyperspectral images, with the support vector machines (SVMs) serving as the classifier. By using the proposed method, the accuracy of the SVM classifier can be improved significantly. Furthermore, compared with other hyperspectral classification methods, the proposed IFRF method shows outstanding performance in terms of classification accuracy and computational efficiency.
