Abstract: This study demonstrates the effectiveness of the KiVa antibullying program using a large sample of 8,237 youth from Grades 4-6 (10-12 years). Altogether, 78 schools were randomly assigned to intervention (39 schools, 4,207 students) and control conditions (39 schools, 4,030 students). Multilevel regression analyses revealed that after 9 months of implementation, the intervention had consistent beneficial effects on 7 of the 11 dependent variables, including self- and peer-reported victimization and self-reported bullying. The results indicate that the KiVa program is effective in reducing school bullying and victimization in Grades 4-6. Despite some evidence against school-based interventions, the results suggest that well-conceived school-based programs can reduce victimization.

Abstract: We observe subpicosecond charge separation and formation of indirect excitons a van der Waals heterostructure formed by molybdenum disulfide and molybdenum diselenide monolayers. The sample is fabricated by manually stacking monolayer MoS2 and MoSe2 flakes prepared by mechanical exfoliation. Photoluminescence measurements confirm the formation of an effective heterojunction. In the transient absorption measurements, an ultrafast laser pulse resonantly injects excitons in the MoSe2 layer of the heterostructure. Differential reflection of a probe pulse tuned to the MoS2 exciton resonance is immediately observed following the pump excitation. This proves ultrafast transfer of electrons from MoSe2 to MoS2 layers, despite the strong Coulomb attraction from the holes in the resonantly excited excitons. Conversely, when excitons are selectively injected in MoS2, holes transfer to MoSe2 on an ultrafast time scale, too, as observed by measuring the differential reflection of a probe tuned to the MoSe2 resonance. Abstract: Analyses of fossil mammal faunas from 2945 localities in the United States demonstrate that the geographic ranges of individual species shifted at different times, in different directions, and at different rates in response to late Quaternary environmental fluctuations. The geographic pattern of faunal provinces was similar for the late Pleistocene and late Holocene, but differing environmental gradients resulted in dissimilar species composition for these biogeographic regions. Modern community patterns emerged only in the last few thousand years, and many late Pleistocene communities do not have modern analogs. Faunal heterogeneity was greater in the late Pleistocene.
