TL;DR: Trickle-bed as mentioned in this paper is a type of the second classification in which both gas and liquid flow downward through the catalyst bed and avoid the disadvantage of separating small catalyst particles from the fluid product streams associated with slurry reactors, and also avoid the limitation of flow rates uncountered with upflow or countercurrent flow through fixed beds.
Abstract: For reactions necesitating a solid catalyst and which invoive both reisuvely volatile and nonvclarile reactants, three-phase reactirs are required. Equipment used to achieve intimate contacting of the three phases has been procominantly in the form of slurry reactors, analogous to the stirred-tank homogenous system, or fixed-bed reactors in which the two fluid phases flow through a stationary bed of catalyst particles. Trickle-bed reactors are a type ofthe second classification in which both gas and liquid flow downward through the catalyst bed. Such systems avoid the disadvantage of separating small catalyst particles from the fluid product streams associated with slurry reactors, and also avoid the limitation of flow rates uncountered with upflow or countercurrent flow through fixed beds.

TL;DR: A detailed account of present work with single- and multi-channel stimulation of paralysed legs is given, as well as some research data on upper extremity stimulation.
Abstract: Functional electrical stimulation of the extremities (FES) is a new method for the rehabilitation of paralysed paretic patients. Small, electronic stimulators are worn by the patient, who can voluntarily control the electrical currents applied to his paralysed muscle. These currents activate the disabled extremities and make them at least partially functional once more. This paper presents a short history of FES and discusses recent advances and problems in the field. A detailed account of present work with single- and multi-channel stimulation of paralysed legs is given, as well as some research data on upper extremity stimulation.

TL;DR: The existence of 2 ternary compounds, BaTiGe309 and BazTiGeZ08, was confirmed and their X-ray crystallographic data were presented in this article, where a subsolidus phase diagram was presented.
Abstract: Subsolidus phase relations in the system Ba0-Ti02-Ge02 were investigated using conventional solid-state reaction techniques and X-ray powder diffraction. The existence of 2 ternary compounds, BaTiGe309 and BazTiGeZ08, was confirmed and their X-ray crystallographic data are presented. The compound BaTiGe309 has a lower limit of stability at 1135°C and melts incongruently at 1232°C; Ba2TiGe2O2 melts congruently at 1228°C. Subsolidus compatibility relations in the ternary system were established and tie lines between the various phases which constitute a total of 12 compatibility triangles at 1000°C are shown in a subsolidus phase diagram.

TL;DR: A feasibility study to show that movement plasticity can be improved using a gradually modulated stimulation sequence and suggests that a more important correction of hemiplegic gait using multichannel continuously modulated sequences can be achieved.
Abstract: The paper presents a feasibility study to show that movement plasticity can be improved using a gradually modulated stimulation sequence. The stimulation amplitude can be adjusted to eight above-threshold levels for 16 equal intervals within the walking cycle. The efficiency of such stimulation was demonstrated on the drop-foot correction with two hemiparetic patients. The pretibial muscle group was stimulated and a significant improvement of the ankle-joint goniograms was shown. This fact suggests that a more important correction of hemiplegic gait using multichannel continuously modulated sequences can be achieved.

TL;DR: The model accounts satisfactorily for the generation time distribution function and for the shortening of the G1 phase of binucleate cells and a possible relationship is proposed between the chemical parameters within the cell and the parameters of the cell population kinetics.
Abstract: The transition probability model of variability of cell generation times is extended so that the rate constant for the transition from the A-state to the B-phase of the cell cycle depends on on time which a particular all has already spent in the A-state. A specific time dependence of this rate constant is introduced. It is determined by the value of one constant which is then an additional parameter of the model. The corresponding cell population kinetics are calculated and compared to existing experimental evidence. The model accounts satisfactorily for the generation time distribution function and for the shortening of the G1 phase of binucleate cells. The time dependence of the transition probability is related to the cell kinetics of an hypothetical cell constituent. A possible relationship is proposed between the chemical parameters with the cell and the parameters of the cell population kinetics.

TL;DR: In this article, the osmotic coefficients of polystyrenesulfonic acid (poly[1-(sulfophenyl)ethylene]) and its sodium, thallium, calcium and cadmium salt solutions were measured by a membrane osmometer for counterion molalities MC = 10−2 to 5·10−4mol/kg, at 25°C.
Abstract: Eight sodium salts of polystyrenesulfonic acid (poly[1-(sulfophenyl)ethylene]) of different molecular weights were prepared similarly and purified in the same way. Their aqueous solutions were thus chemically equivalent, and differed only in their molecular weights, which were determined viscosimetrically. The osmotic coefficients (Φ) of the acid and its sodium, thallium, calcium and cadmium salt solutions were measured by a membrane osmometer for counterion molalities mc = 10−2 to 5·10−4mol/kg, at 25°C. In the same concentration range, the activity coefficients of hydrogen counterions (γH) of acid solutions were calculated from electromotive force measurements and the osmotic coefficients of the acid solutions were determined by the cryoscopic method for two different molecular weights. The values obtained are presented graphically as functions of the measured average molecular weight for mc = 10−3 and 10−2 mol/kg and are in good mutual agreement within experimental error. This agreement of results could be assumed to verify experimentally that the colligative properties of polystyrene-sulfonate polyelectrolytes at low concentrations are dependent on the molecular weight of the polyion. The obtained results together with some literature data, allow us to evaluate very approximately the activity coefficients of monovalent counterions (γc) for mc = 10−2 mol/kg as a function of the degree of polymerization (n) of linear oligoions or polyions, for values of n up to 104.

TL;DR: In this article, a review of the recent progress in the use of nqr, nmr and epr for the study of soft modes in order-disorder and displacivc type solid ferroelectrics is given.
Abstract: A review is given of the recent progress in the use of nqr, nmr and epr for the study of soft modes in order-disorder and displacivc type solid ferroelectrics. The study of the soft modes and symmetry recovering Goldstone modes in liquid crystalline ferroelectrics where-in contrast to solid ferroelectrics-a discrete symmetry group is broken at the phase transition temperature is as well reviewed. The evidence for central modes obtained from the dispersion of T 1 between O and 60 K Gauss in KD2FO4 NaH3(SeO3)2 and several liquid crystalline systems is discussed.

TL;DR: The average thickness of the thyroid epithelial cells may be determined by the direct or caliper method, and the thickness is overestimated as a result of which its empirical value must be divided by a correction factor Kd.
Abstract: SUMMARY The average thickness of the thyroid epithelial cells may be determined either directly or indirectly. By the direct or caliper method, this thickness is overestimated as a result of which its empirical value must be divided by a correction factor Kd. By the indirect method, on the other hand, the thickness of the thyroid gland epithelium is calculated as the ratio of the double volume density of the epithelium to the sum of the inner and the outer surface density of the epithelium; in this case the sought for thickness value is underestimated and must consequently be multiplied by a factor Ki. Both correction factors are algebraically defined. Their values are calculated and graphically represented as a function of the thyroid activation index (the ratio between the volume density of the epithelium and the colloid) for the range from 0·1 to 100. The validity of the theoretical interpretation of the discrepancy between the values obtained for the average thickness of the thyroid epithelium by the direct and the corresponding values obtained by the indirect method, is empirically tested. It is shown that by the introduction of appropriate correction factors the difference between the results obtained by each method can be reduced. These improved direct and indirect methods for determining the wall thickness of a hollow sphere seem to lend themselves to being used in the stereological analysis of other biological, perhaps even non-biological materials of similar structure.
