TL;DR: This review focuses on recent advances in the biotechnology of Pleurotus spp.
Abstract: Summary The genus Pleurotus (oyster mushroom) comprises some the most popular edible mushrooms due to their favourable organoleptic and medicinal properties, vigorous growth and undemanding cultivation conditions. It can be cultivated on log and a wide variety of agroforestry (by-)products, weeds and wastes for the production of food, feed, enzymes and medicinal compounds, or for waste degradation and detoxification. Many different techniques and substrates have been successfully utilized for mushroom cultivation and biomass production by means of solid-state and submerged liquid fermentation. However, in contrast to submerged liquid fermentation, solid-state fermentation is not often used in large scale due to severe engineering problems. Various Pleurotus species have been shown to possess a number of medicinal properties, such as antitumour, immunomodulatory, antigenotoxic, antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, hypocholesterolaemic, antihypertensive, antiplatelet-aggregating, antihyperglycaemic, antimicrobial and antiviral activities. These therapeutic activities are exhibited by extracts or isolated compounds from Pleurotus spp. fermentation broth, mycelia and fruiting bodies. In particular, polysaccharides appear to be potent antitumour and immuno-enhancing substances, besides possessing other beneficial activities. However, the biochemical mechanisms of these therapeutic activities still remain largely unknown. This review focuses on recent advances in the biotechnology of Pleurotus spp., with emphasis on the production of fruiting bodies, the production of mycelium and bioactive compounds by solid-state and submerged liquid fermentation. The medicinal properties of this mushroom are also outlined.

TL;DR: Bezak et al. as mentioned in this paper presented a comparison of the results of both methods for data from the Litija 1 gauging station on the Sava River in Slovenia, and the results showed a better performance for the method of L-moments (ML) when compared with the conventional moments and maximum likelihood estimation.
Abstract: Flood frequency analysis can be made by using two types of flood peak series, i.e. the annual maximum (AM) and peaks-over-threshold (POT) series. This study presents a comparison of the results of both methods for data from the Litija 1 gauging station on the Sava River in Slovenia. Six commonly used distribution functions and three different parameter estimation techniques were considered in the AM analyses. The results showed a better performance for the method of L-moments (ML) when compared with the conventional moments and maximum likelihood estimation. The combination of the ML and the log-Pearson type 3 distribution gave the best results of all the considered AM cases. The POT method gave better results than the AM method. The binomial distribution did not offer any noticeable improvement over the Poisson distribution for modelling the annual number of exceedences above the threshold. Editor D. TL;DR: In this paper, the effect of a unified power flow controller (UPFC) on transient stability margin enhancement of a longitudinal power system is analyzed, and three controllable UPFC parameters are determined during the digital simulation process performed by the NETOMAC simulation program.
Abstract: The aim of the paper is to analyze the effect of a unified power flow controller (UPFC) on transient stability margin enhancement of a longitudinal power system. To utilize the UPFC possibilities fully, the three controllable UPFC parameters were determined during the digital simulation process performed by the NETOMAC simulation program. The basis for determination of the suitable damping strategy and for determination of the optimal UPFC parameters is a mathematical model, which describes the interdependence between longitudinal transmission system parameters, operating conditions and UPFC parameters in the form of analytical equations. On the basis of the mathematical model, the theoretical UPFC limits were also detected, and their appearance explained.

TL;DR: In this paper, the influence of emulsion mist formation parameters and the nozzle distance from the tool-chip interface, on the droplet velocity at the nozzle outlet, on active medium atomization angle as well as on the diameter and number of droplets supplied to the cutting zone was analyzed.
Abstract: The paper analyses the influence of emulsion mist formation parameters and the nozzle distance from the tool–chip interface, on the droplet velocity at the nozzle outlet, on active medium atomization angle as well as on the diameter and number of droplets supplied to the cutting zone. The deformation coefficient of the droplets falling on the surface and the wetting angle have also been determined. In the work it has been proved that the strongest influence on the droplets diameter have the air flow and the distance of the nozzle from the cutting zone. It has been shown that larger angle of the stream splitting ensures that the droplets do not join each other in the air, and consequently assures small diameter on the surface. Additionally, the results show that the emulsion mass flow does not change the droplets diameters by more than 12%. It has been determined that smaller the droplets diameter is, higher content of active compounds in the tribofilms formed on the machined surface is present. In this way the paper presents the analysis and directions of MQCL adjustment trends needed to improve the machining performance.
