TL;DR: The aluminium alloy was found to be more efficient than pure aluminium for removal of COD and chromium and could be obtained with shorter time of treatment and lower current densities, and energy consumption of the electrocoagulation process was discussed.

TL;DR: In this article, the authors obtain necessary and sufficient conditions for exponential convergence to a unique quasi-stationary distribution in the total variation norm of the $$Q$$ -process (the process conditioned to never be absorbed), and apply these results to one-dimensional birth and death processes with catastrophes, multi-dimensional and infinite-dimensional population models with Brownian mutations and neutron transport dynamics absorbed at the boundary of a bounded domain.
Abstract: For general, almost surely absorbed Markov processes, we obtain necessary and sufficient conditions for exponential convergence to a unique quasi-stationary distribution in the total variation norm. These conditions also ensure the existence and exponential ergodicity of the $$Q$$ -process (the process conditioned to never be absorbed). We apply these results to one-dimensional birth and death processes with catastrophes, multi-dimensional birth and death processes, infinite-dimensional population models with Brownian mutations and neutron transport dynamics absorbed at the boundary of a bounded domain.

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors assessed incidence and predictors of hyperkalemia (potassium ≥ 5.5 mmol/L) and hypokalemia, and the relationship to outcomes in 1663 patients with class III or IV heart failure and left ventricular ejection fraction <35% randomized to treatment with spironolactone 25 mg or placebo in the Randomized Aldactone Evaluation Study (RALES) trial.
Abstract: Background—Mineralocorticoid receptor antagonists reduce morbidity and mortality in patients with heart failure but can cause hyperkalemia, which contributes to reduced use of these drugs. Hypokalemia also leads to worse outcomes in patients with heart failure and may be attenuated by mineralocorticoid receptor antagonists. Methods and Results—We assessed incidence and predictors of hyperkalemia (potassium ≥5.5 mmol/L) and hypokalemia (potassium <3.5 mmol/L) and the relationship to outcomes in 1663 patients with class III or IV heart failure and left ventricular ejection fraction <35% randomized to treatment with spironolactone 25 mg or placebo in the Randomized Aldactone Evaluation Study (RALES) trial. All-cause mortality rates and the influence of potassium levels on the effectiveness of spironolactone were assessed in a landmark analysis and in relation to time-varying potassium levels. After 1 month, mean potassium levels increased in the spironolactone group but not in the placebo group (4.54±0.49 ve...
