Abstract: In smart factory applications, sensors, actuators, field devices, and supervision systems often require a high degree of reliability and timeliness in information exchange. The quality of service provided by the underlying industrial communication network is a key requisite for quality of control. In this context, the WirelessHART, ISA100.11a, and IEEE802.15.4e time-slotted channel hopping standards contribute novel protocols to support quasi-deterministic services, based on wireless short-range communication technologies. The recently created IETF 6TiSCH working group binds IPv6 to this market. Within the 6TiSCH architecture, the 6top sublayer manages the way communication resources are scheduled in time and frequency. The on-the-fly (OTF) bandwidth reservation module plays a complementary role; it is a distributed approach for adapting the scheduled bandwidth to network requirements. This paper first describes the OTF module and its interactions with the 6top sublayer. It then presents the simulation results of the OTF, drawn from a realistic 50-sensor mote multi-hop network that models a small industrial plant. Results show that the OTF can attain an end-to-end latency of the order of a second, with over 99% end-to-end reliability. The first real-world OTF implementation in OpenWSN is presented to demonstrate that it can easily be added within the 6TiSCH architecture.

Abstract: Background— Neuronal nitric oxide synthase (nNOS) has recently been shown to be a major regulator of cardiac contractility. In a cellular system, we have previously shown that nNOS is regulated by the isoform 4b of plasma membrane calcium/calmodulin-dependent ATPase (PMCA4b) through direct interaction mediated by a PDZ domain (PSD 95, Drosophilia Discs large protein and Zona occludens-1) on nNOS and a cognate ligand on PMCA4b. It remains unknown, however, whether this interaction has physiological relevance in the heart in vivo. Methods and Results— We generated 2 strains of transgenic mice overexpressing either human PMCA4b or PMCA ct120 in the heart. PMCA ct120 is a highly active mutant form of the pump that does not interact with or modulate nNOS function. Calcium was extruded normally from PMCA4b-overexpressing cardiomyocytes, but in vivo, overexpression of PMCA4b reduced the β-adrenergic contractile response. Abstract: Using the fluctuation theorem supplemented with geometric arguments, we derive universal features of the (long-time) efficiency fluctuations for thermal and isothermal machines operating under steady or periodic driving, close or far from equilibrium. In particular, the probabilities for observing the reversible efficiency and the least likely efficiency are identical to those of the same machine working under the time-reversed driving. For time-symmetric drivings, this reversible and the least probable efficiency coincide.

Abstract: The year 2018 was marked by the official recognition of Gaming Disorder (GD) as a mental condition with its inclusion in the proposed eleventh edition of the International Classification of Diseases (ICD-11). Recently, a group of scholars has repeatedly criticized the notion of GD proposed by the World Health Organization (WHO), arguing that its inclusion in ICD-11 would pathologize highly involved but healthy gamers. It is therefore of crucial importance to clarify the characteristics of high involvement versus pathological involvement in video games, the boundaries between these constructs, and the implementation of screening and diagnostic GD tools that distinguish the two. Increasing evidence supports the view that intense video game playing may involve patterns of gaming that are characterized by high involvement but that are non-pathological. Furthermore, some criteria for addictive and related disorders may reflect peripheral features that are not necessarily indicative of pathology, whereas others may reflect core features that are more likely to adequately identify pathological behavior and so have diagnostic validity. Finally, it is key to assess functional impairment associated with gaming, so that a GD diagnosis has clinical utility. Available evidence supports the crucial need to distinguish between high and pathological involvement in video games, in order to avoid overdiagnosis and pathologization of normal behavior. The definition of GD adopted in ICD-11 has clinical utility and diagnostic validity since it explicitly mentions the functional impairment caused by problem gaming and its diagnostic guidelines refer to core addiction features, reflecting pathological involvement.
