Abstract: Incubation of rat peritoneal mast cells with substance P resulted in the transient stimulation of phosphoinositol breakdown and histamine secretion through an exocytotic process. These effects were inhibited markedly by a prior 2-hr exposure of the cells to pertussis toxin. Pertussis toxin also inhibited exocytosis induced by substance P, mastoparan and compound 48/80, but did not modify the secretory effect of the ionophore A23187. The transfer of rat peritoneal mast cells from balanced salt solution to calcium-free buffer led to a similar time-dependent decrease in their response to substance P and mastoparan. The concomitant absence of potassium from the calcium-free buffer enabled the mast cells to retain their secretory response. These data demonstrate identical dependency for calcium and monovalent ions of the secretory process elicited by substance P, mastoparan and compound 48/80. Pretreatment of mast cells with neuraminidase decreased the secretagogic effect of substance P, mastoparan and compound 48/80 without modifying the efficiency of the ionophore A23187. Thus, sialic acid residues might be involved in the initial binding of peptides and compound 48/80 to mast cells, which activate a pertussis toxin-sensitive G-protein and allows the increase in phospholipase C activity to induce exocytosis. This sequence of events might characterize the physiological pathway of mast cell activation by peptides, without necessarily requiring selective membrane receptors.

Abstract: The unprecedented growth of wireless data traffic not only challenges the design and evolution of the wireless network architecture, but also brings about profound opportunities to drive and improve future networks. Meanwhile, the evolution of communications and computing technologies can make the network edge, such as BSs or UEs, become intelligent and rich in terms of computing and communications capabilities, which intuitively enables big data analytics at the network edge. In this article, we propose to explore big data analytics to advance edge caching capability, which is considered as a promising approach to improve network efficiency and alleviate the high demand for the radio resource in future networks. The learning-based approaches for network edge caching are discussed, where a vast amount of data can be harnessed for content popularity estimation and proactive caching strategy design. An outlook of research directions, challenges, and opportunities is provided and discussed in depth. To validate the proposed solution, a case study and a performance evaluation are presented. Numerical studies show that several gains are achieved by employing learning- based schemes for edge caching.

Abstract: We present a Nitche's method to couple non-conforming two and three-dimensional non uniform rational b-splines (NURBS) patches in the context of isogeometric analysis. We present results for linear elastostatics in two and and three-dimensions. The method can deal with surface-surface or volume-volume coupling, and we show how it can be used to handle heterogeneities such as inclusions. We also present preliminary results on modal analysis. This simple coupling method has the potential to increase the applicability of NURBS-based isogeometric analysis for practical applications.
