TL;DR: In this paper, the authors examined whether organizational socialization content areas are applicable across cultures and found that all four socialization domains played a significant role in predicting satisfaction and commitment, and these socialization measures also were stronger predictors than a variety of demographic measures.
Abstract: This study examined whether organizational socialization content areas are applicable across cultures. Data were gathered from 324 U.S. and 198 Hong Kong employees who completed a questionnaire assessing four socialization content domains (training, understanding of the job, coworker support, and future prospects within the company), five measures of job satisfaction, and three measures of organizational commitment. Based on the merged data from the two cultures, all four socialization domains played a significant role in predicting satisfaction and commitment. These socialization measures also were stronger predictors than a variety of demographic measures. Although there were some differences in the relative strengths of the socialization measures when the data were analyzed separately for each nation, the overall results support the idea that the socialization content areas tested are applicable across cultures. Implications for managing employees in the different cultures are discussed.

TL;DR: In this paper, the probability density function (PDF) of the responses of non-linear stochastic system excited by white noise is approximated with the exponential function of polynomial in state variables.
Abstract: The probability density function (PDF) of the responses of non-linear stochastic system excited by white noise is approximated with the exponential function of polynomial in state variables. Special measure is taken to satisfy FPK equation in the weak sense of integration with the assumed PDF. Gaussian closure method is a special case of the proposed method. Examples are given to show the application of the method to the systems with additive random excitations and those with both additive and multiplicative random excitations. The PDFs obtained with the proposed method and conventional Gaussian closure method are compared with obtainable exact ones. Numerical results showed that the PDFs obtained with the proposed method can be very close to the exact ones regardless of the degree of system non-linearity. In some cases, even exact solution can be obtained with the proposed method.

TL;DR: In this paper, the probability density function of the responses of nonlinear random vibration of a multi-degree-of-freedom system is formulated in the defined domain as an exponential function of polynomials in state variables.
Abstract: The probability density function of the responses of nonlinear random vibration of a multi-degree-of-freedom system is formulated in the defined domain as an exponential function of polynomials in state variables. The probability density function is assumed to be governed by Fokker-Planck-Kolmogorov (FPK) equation. Special measure is taken to satisfy the FPK equation in the average sense of integration with the assumed function and quadratic algebraic equations are obtained for determining the unknown probability density function. Two-degree-of-freedom systems are analyzed with the proposed method to validate the method for nonlinear multi-degree-of-freedom systems. The probability density functions obtained with the proposed method are compared with the obtainable exact and simulated ones. Numerical results showed that the probability density function solutions obtained with the presented method are much closer to the exact and simulated solutions even for highly nonlinear systems with both external and parametric excitations.

TL;DR: In this paper, a single-machine infinite-bus system with one static synchronous compensator (STATCOM) asymmetrically installed as a current source is discussed, and a simple power equation is drawn to give direct and clear physical concepts on synchronizing and damping torque coefficients.
Abstract: In this paper, we discuss the single-machine infinite-bus system with one static synchronous compensator (STATCOM) asymmetrically installed as a current source. Together with a classical two order generator model, a simple power equation is drawn to give direct and clear physical concepts on synchronizing and damping torque coefficients. On the basis of the equations, some basic issues, such as the relationship of voltage gain control and damping control, operating conditions and installation of STATCOM, are investigated by detailed theoretical analysis. Then with proportional controller for voltage and damping control, the digital simulation proves the necessity of multi-objective control of STATCOM in damping power system oscillations and supplying fast voltage support. Finally, nonlinear simulation demonstrates how STATCOM improves the power transfer ability of the system after a severe fault.

TL;DR: This article explored elementary school children's geographical and affective location of the self in Japan, Macau and Hong Kong, finding that Japanese children are far less likely than their counterparts in Hong Kong and Macau to locate themselves in an international sphere.
Abstract: In the so-called 'global age', the issue of how children learn to locate themselves in the world is an important one. Working from a foundation of theories related to globalisation, identity development and citizenship education, this paper describes the findings of a research project which explored elementary school children's geographical and affective location of the self in Japan, Macau and Hong Kong. Analysis and discussion of Japanese education policy is then presented in an attempt to explain the finding that Japanese children are far less likely than their counterparts in Hong Kong and Macau to locate themselves in an international sphere.

TL;DR: This paper proposes improved switched-capacitor interpolators using a novel sampling technique which eliminates the undesired distortion due to the sample-and-hold shaping effect at the lower input sampling rate.
Abstract: This paper proposes improved switched-capacitor (SC) interpolators using a novel sampling technique which eliminates the undesired distortion due to the sample-and-hold shaping effect at the lower input sampling rate. Such a sampling technique not only leads to a precise analog interpolation, as its digital counterpart does, but also allows to simplify the design procedures and resulting SC circuit implementations. Different circuit topologies with both finite- and infinite-impulse response characteristics are developed, respectively, for low- and high-selectivity filtering. Practical implementation issues are discussed with respect to capacitance ratio mismatches, as well as finite gain, bandwidth, and offset sensitivity effects of operational amplifiers. Besides detailed computer-based analyses, experimental results obtained from discrete component prototypes are also presented to demonstrate the proposed circuits.

TL;DR: In this paper, a robust controller for stabilizing an inverted pendulum system by loop shaping design procedure (LSDP) is proposed. But it does not require /spl gamma/-iteration for its solution, and explicit formulas for the corresponding controller are available.
Abstract: Loop shaping design procedure (LSDP) is one of the most promising H/sub /spl infin// design procedure, which incorporates loop shaping methods to obtain performance or robust stability trade-offs. The advantage is that LSDP does not require /spl gamma/-iteration for its solution, and explicit formulas for the corresponding controller are available. Many controllers designed by the method give satisfactory results, such as in aerospace applications. In this paper, we design a robust controller for stabilizing an inverted pendulum system by LSDP. Simulation results show that the designed controller works satisfactorily.

TL;DR: It was shown that the preconditioners are nonsingular when the BVM is A?, µ-?-stable, and the eigenvalues of preconditionsed matrices are clustered, so the number of iterations for solving the precONDitioned systems by the GMRES method is bounded by a constant that is independent of the discretization mesh.
Abstract: We consider linear constant coefficient differential-algebraic equations (DAEs) Ax?(t) + Bx(t) = f(t) where A, B are square matrices and A is singular. If det(?A + B) with ? ? C is not identically zero, the system of DAEs is solvable and can be separated into two uncoupled subsystems. One of them can be solved analytically and the other one is a system of ordinary differential equations (ODEs). We discretize the ODEs by boundary value methods (BVMs) and solve the linear system by using the generalized minimal residual (GMRES) method with Strang-type block-circulant preconditioners. It was shown that the preconditioners are nonsingular when the BVM is A?, µ-?-stable, and the eigenvalues of preconditioned matrices are clustered. Therefore, the number of iterations for solving the preconditioned systems by the GMRES method is bounded by a constant that is independent of the discretization mesh. Numerical results are also given.

TL;DR: An interactive architecture compiler for SC multirate circuits that allows the automated design from frequency specifications to building block implementation, here applied to the design and synthesis of multistage SC decimators is proposed.
Abstract: This paper proposes an interactive architecture compiler for SC multirate circuits that allows the automated design from frequency specifications to building block implementation, here applied to the design and synthesis of multistage SC decimators. The compiler provides a library of different topologies that comprises a few independent multi-decimation building blocks. New building blocks defined by the users are also available for design of a specific stage. A design example of a 7th order SC decimator illustrates the efficient synthesis of the corresponding resulting circuits that achieve the required anti-aliasing amplitude responses with respect to the speed requirements of the operational amplifiers and also the minimum capacitance spread and total capacitor area.

TL;DR: A modular approach for the L-band CMOS Active Inductor is proposed and designed based upon a connection in series of conventional low Q-factor gyrator-C basic cells in order to offer simplicity in terms of pole/zero cancellation.
Abstract: In this paper, a modular approach for the L-band CMOS Active Inductor (AI) is proposed and designed based upon a connection in series of conventional low Q-factor gyrator-C basic cells. The Q-factor can then be tuned by the number of AI cells in order to offer simplicity in terms of pole/zero cancellation, while maintaining in each gyrator-C inductor cell low values of Q. In order to demonstrate the proposed architecture's usefulness, a prototype L-band active inductor is designed in a 0.6 /spl mu/m CMOS process. The simulated results show that a high Q value of 972 is obtained at 2 GHz and an average Q-factor value of 200 is also achieved in the frequency range of 1-2 GHz.

Abstract: The concept of "personalized intelligent control" is illustrated in this paper. Not based on accurate mathematical model, personified intelligent control method forms control laws directly by means of qualitative analysis and synthesis of the plant. We apply it successfully to balancing of an inverted pendulum system, which is a classic example of an inherently nonlinear unstable system. The experimental results show the feasibility, effectiveness and robustness of the applied controller.

Abstract: .

Abstract: Stochastic optimal control problems for a class of reflected diffusion with Poisson jumps in a half-space are considered. The nonlinear Nisio's semigroup for such optimal control problems was constructed. A Hamilton-Jacobi-Bellman equation with the Neumann boundary condition associated with this semigroup was obtained. Then, viscosity solutions of this equation were defined and discussed, and various uniqueness of this equation was also considered. Finally, the value function was such optimal control problems is shown to be a viscosity solution of this equation.

TL;DR: A novel area-efficient technique including symmetrical-coefficient-sharing and spread-reduction is proposed in this transversal SC circuit embedding minimized mismatch-free analog delay lines with accurate, wideband gain- and offset-compensation.
Abstract: This paper proposes a 4-fold multistage Switched-Capacitor (SC) interpolation filter with 5 MHz passband and 54 MHz output sampling rate for NTSC/PAL digital video signal processing systems. The circuit implements an impulse sampled halfband interpolation with 23- and 7-tap FIR filtering in 1stand 2nd-stage respectively for achieving a linear-phase response. A novel area-efficient technique including symmetrical-coefficient-sharing and spread-reduction is proposed in this transversal SC circuit embedding minimized mismatch-free analog delay lines with accurate, wideband gain- and offset-compensation. This filter is designed with optimized speed of the analog components in 0.35 /spl mu/m CMOS technology and expected to consume about 2 mm/sup 2/ active area and 90 mW at 3.0 V supply.

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors developed a general -equilibrium model to explain the emergence of multinational enterprise from trade-offs between transaction costs and the economies of specialization, and showed that even without structural market distortions, the activities of multinational enterprises still occur wherever there are transaction gains from the common governance of activities in different locations.
Abstract: This paper develops a general -equilibrium model to ex plain the emergence of multinational enterprise s from the trade -offs between transaction costs and the economies of specialization . After management specialist s’ real incomes from domestic production, domestic licensing, export, international licensing and international production have been derived in a unifying framework, the emergence of multinational enterprise s can be explained endogenously. Inframarginal analysis (total cost -benefit analysis across corner solutions in addition to marginal analysis of e ach corner solution) of the model shows that, even without structural market distortions, the activities of multinational enterprise s still occur wherever there are transaction gains from the common governance of activities in different locations.

TL;DR: A novel linear predictive method (SELP) for speech spectra modelling is proposed which allows one to develop an all-pole filter which combines p+1 consecutive even preceding samples of the speech signal x(n) into p pairs for linear extrapolation.
Abstract: In this paper, a novel linear predictive method (SELP) for speech spectra modelling is proposed. This method allows one to develop an all-pole filter which combines p+1 consecutive even preceding samples of the speech signal x(n) into p pairs for linear extrapolation. In addition, a weighting selective scheme is employed to obtain high signal-to-error ratio (SER). Comparing to the traditional LPC modelling, the proposed filter's order is then raised to 2p+2 when both filters are with p-normal equations. In order to demonstrate the proposed method usefulness, this new model is simulated at 22.05 kHz speech spectra. Experimental results show that at least 10 dB SER improvement is obtained with p=5 when compared with that of LPC modelling.
