Abstract: Previous studies have shown that self-esteem is an important predictor of subjective well-being. However, the majority of research has focused on self-esteem at the individual and the collective level, but has mostly ignored self-esteem at the relational level. According to social identity theory, individuals can maintain and enhance self-esteem through personal traits (personal self-esteem, PSE), relationships with significant others (relational self-esteem, RSE), and relationships with larger groups (collective self-esteem, CSE). The current research investigated whether RSE and CSE can predict subjective well-being beyond PSE among Chinese college students. With four cross-sectional studies and one longitudinal study (N = 847), we found that, when controlling for PSE, RSE was associated with greater life satisfaction, positive affect, meaning in life, happiness, and subjective vitality (Studies 1–5), but CSE was not (Studies 2–5). Implications are discussed.

Abstract: Cancer immunotherapy using tumor-specific monoclonal antibodies presents a novel approach for cancer treatment. A monoclonal antibody TA99 specific for gp75 antigen of melanoma initiates neutrophil recruitment in tumor responsible for cancer therapy. Here, a strategy is reported for hijacking neutrophils in vivo using nanoparticles (NPs) to deliver therapeutics into tumor. In a mouse model of melanoma, it is shown that systemically delivered albumin NPs increase in tumor when TA99 antibody is injected; and the NP tumor accumulation is mediated by neutrophils. After the administration of pyropheophorbide-a loaded albumin NPs and TA99, photodynamic therapy significantly suppresses the tumor growth and increases mouse survival compared with treatment with the NPs or TA99. The study reveals a new avenue to treat cancer by NP hitchhiking of immune systems to enhance delivery of therapeutics into tumor sites.

Abstract: The combination of chemical and molecular technologies to emulate silicon-based processing has arisen as a fascinating area of research in the scientific community. This has stimulated the development of molecular-scale logic gates that can parallel the Boolean functions representing the fundamental basis of modern computing. In this regard, the extraordinary diversity of nucleic acid structures and functions can be potentially harnessed to perform logic operations for molecular computers. In this Perspective, we highlight recent advances in the development of simple DNA logic gates devices producing luminescence, colorimetric, electrochemical or electrochemiluminescence signals responding to biomolecules and metal ions for sensory and computing applications.

Abstract: Recently, two-dimensional (2D) materials, including graphene, its derivatives, metal films, MXenes and transition metal dichalcogenides (TMDs), have been widely studied because of their tunable electronic structures and special electrical and optical properties. However, during the fabrication of these 2D materials with atomic thickness, formation of wrinkles or folds is unavoidable to enable their stable existence. Meaningfully, it is found that wrinkled structures simultaneously impose positive changes on the 2D materials. Specifically, the architecture of wrinkled structures in 2D materials additionally induces excellent properties, which are of great importance for their practical applications. In this review, we provide an overview of categories of 2D materials, which contains formation and fabrication methods of wrinkled patterns and relevant mechanisms, as well as the induced mechanical, electrical, thermal and optical properties. Furthermore, these properties are modifiable by controlling the surface topography or even by dynamically stretching the 2D materials. Wrinkling offers a platform for 2D materials to be applied in some promising fields such as field emitters, energy containers and suppliers, field effect transistors, hydrophobic surfaces, sensors for flexible electronics and artificial intelligence. Finally, the opportunities and challenges of wrinkled 2D materials in the near future are discussed.
