TL;DR: This paper shows that the urban forms in historical areas with narrower roads, complex road networks and a higher density of intersections lead to lower traffic volumes and thus lower noise pollution, but the greater street canyon effects in these historical urban areas lead to higher carbon monoxide (CO) concentrations.
Abstract: Based on the work of Jensen [Jensen, S.S., 1998. Mapping human exposure to traffic air pollution using GIS. Journal of Hazardous Materials 61(1-3), 385-392; Jensen, S.S., 1999. A geographic approach to modelling human exposure to traffic air pollution using GIS. Ph.D. Thesis. National Environmental Research Institute, Roskilde], a prototype system for modelling noise and air pollution is developed for the Macao Peninsula. The system integrates a road traffic noise model, an operational air pollution model, digital maps, an urban landscape model and a Geographic Information System (GIS). Compared with mesoscale model systems with input/output resolution in kilometres, the present one has a higher spatial resolution down to individual buildings along both sides of the street. Applying the developed model system, a preliminary study investigates the ways that four urban forms existing nowadays on the Macao Peninsula influence vehicle transport and street environment. This paper shows that the urban forms in historical areas with narrower roads, complex road networks and a higher density of intersections lead to lower traffic volumes and thus lower noise pollution. However, the greater street canyon effects in these historical urban areas lead to higher carbon monoxide (CO) concentrations.

TL;DR: In this article, the authors examined the relationship between procedural justice and employee job insecurity, and the boundary conditions of this relationship, and hypothesized that procedural justice is negatively related to job insecurity and that this relationship is moderated by ethical leadership.
Abstract: This study examines the relationship between procedural justice and employee job insecurity, and the boundary conditions of this relationship. Drawing upon uncertainty management theory and ethical leadership research, we hypothesized that procedural justice is negatively related to job insecurity, and that this relationship is moderated by ethical leadership. We further predicted that the moderating relationship would be more pronounced among employees with a low power distance orientation. We tested our hypotheses using a sample of 381 workers in Macau and Southern China. The results support all of our hypotheses. The implications of these results for research and practice are discussed.

TL;DR: The potential application of cyclic voltammetry depositions in preparing binder-free NiCo2O4@NiCo 2O4 materials with more uniform architecture for energy storage, in contrast to the traditional galvanostatic deposition methods is explored.
Abstract: In this study, we synthesized binder-free NiCo2O4@NiCo2O4 nanostructured materials on nickel foam (NF) by combined hydrothermal and cyclic voltammetry deposition techniques followed by calcination at 350 °C to attain high-performance supercapacitors. The hierarchical porous NiCo2O4@NiCo2O4 structure, facilitating faster mass transport, exhibited good cycling stability of 83.6% after 5000 cycles and outstanding specific capacitance of 1398.73 F g−1 at the current density of 2 A·g−1, signifying its potential for energy storage applications. A solid-state supercapacitor was fabricated with the NiCo2O4@NiCo2O4 on NF as the positive electrode and the active carbon (AC) was deposited on NF as the negative electrode, delivering a high energy density of 46.46 Wh kg−1 at the power density of 269.77 W kg−1. This outstanding performance was attributed to its layered morphological characteristics. This study explored the potential application of cyclic voltammetry depositions in preparing binder-free NiCo2O4@NiCo2O4 materials with more uniform architecture for energy storage, in contrast to the traditional galvanostatic deposition methods.

TL;DR: A therapeutic strategy was developed to deliver enhanced PTT and simultaneously inhibit PTT-induced inflammatory response through the release of aspirin in tumor milieu and showed excellent effects in’vitro and in vivo.
Abstract: Photothermal therapy (PTT) has been extensively developed as an effective approach against cancer. In some cases, however, PTT can trigger inflammatory responses, in turn simulating tumor regeneration and hindering subsequent therapy. We herein developed a therapeutic strategy able to deliver enhanced PTT and simultaneously inhibite PTT-induced inflammatory response. 1-Pyrene methanol was utilize to synthesize anti-inflammatory prodrug pyrene-aspirin (P-aspirin) with cleavable ester bond, and also facilitate loading the prodrug on gold nanorod (AuNR)-encapsulated graphitic nanocapsule (AuNR@G), a photothermal agent, through π-π interaction. Such AuNR@G-P-aspirin complexes were used for near-infrared laser-triggered photothermal ablation of solid tumor and simultaneous inhibition of PTT-induced inflammation through the release of aspirin in tumor milieu. This strategy showed excellent effects in vitro and in vivo, thus having profound significance for the extended development of PTT.
