Abstract: A Bayesian probabilistic approach is presented for selecting the most plausible class of models for a structural or mechanical system within some specified set of model classes, based on system response data. The crux of the approach is to rank the classes of models based on their probabilities conditional on the response data which can be calculated based on Bayes’ theorem and an asymptotic expansion for the evidence for each model class. The approach provides a quantitative expression of a principle of model parsimony or of Ockham’s razor which in this context can be stated as "simpler models are to be preferred over unnecessarily complicated ones." Examples are presented to illustrate the method using a single-degree-of-freedom bilinear hysteretic system, a linear two-story frame, and a ten-story shear building, all of which are subjected to seismic excitation.

Abstract: Because of the complicity of consensus control of nonlinear multiagent systems in state time-delay, most of previous works focused only on linear systems with input time-delay. An adaptive neural network (NN) consensus control method for a class of nonlinear multiagent systems with state time-delay is proposed in this paper. The approximation property of radial basis function neural networks (RBFNNs) is used to neutralize the uncertain nonlinear dynamics in agents. An appropriate Lyapunov–Krasovskii functional, which is obtained from the derivative of an appropriate Lyapunov function, is used to compensate the uncertainties of unknown time delays. It is proved that our proposed approach guarantees the convergence on the basis of Lyapunov stability theory. The simulation results of a nonlinear multiagent time-delay system and a multiple collaborative manipulators system show the effectiveness of the proposed consensus control algorithm.

Abstract: As of late, polyphenols have increasingly interested the scientific community due to their proposed health benefits. Much of this attention has focused on their bioavailability. Polyphenol–gut microbiota interactions should be considered to understand their biological functions. The dichotomy between the biotransformation of polyphenols into their metabolites by gut microbiota and the modulation of gut microbiota composition by polyphenols contributes to positive health outcomes. Although there are many studies on the in vivo bioavailability of polyphenols, the mutual relationship between polyphenols and gut microbiota is not fully understood. This review focuses on the biotransformation of polyphenols by gut microbiota, modulation of gut microbiota by polyphenols, and the effects of these two-way mutual interactions on polyphenol bioavailability, and ultimately, human health.

Abstract: We propose a cross-level contingent process model based on social cognitive theory to explain how and when the quality of social exchange relationships with a supervisor (leader-member exchange; LMX) and fellow team members (team-member exchange; TMX) affect individual creativity in work teams. Using longitudinal, multisource data for 828 employees on 116 teams, we found LMX and TMX had unique indirect effects on employee creativity via self-efficacy. Further, moderated path analysis revealed LMX differentiation attenuated LMX quality's direct effect on self-efficacy and indirect effect on creativity, whereas TMX differentiation augmented TMX quality's direct effect on self-efficacy and indirect effect on creativity.
