TL;DR: Regression analyses showed that commitment, in-depth exploration and reconsideration of commitment were significantly related to measures of self and personality, psychosocial problems and parent-adolescent relations.

TL;DR: In this paper, the most significant reforms recently introduced in six European countries (France, Germany, Italy, Netherlands, Sweden and the UK) as regards long-term care are analyzed at macro- (institutional and quantitative), meso- (service delivery structures) and micro-level (families, caregivers and people in need).
Abstract: Summary Faced with the problems associated with an ageing society, many European countries have adopted innovative policies to achieve a better balance between the need to expand social care and the imperative to curb public spending. Although embedded within peculiar national traditions, these new policies share some characteristics: (a) a tendency to combine monetary transfers to families with the provision of in-kind services; (b) the establishment of a new social care market based on competition; (c) the empowerment of users through their increased purchasing power; and (d) the introduction of funding measures intended to foster care-giving through family networks. This article presents the most significant reforms recently introduced in six European countries (France, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Sweden and the UK) as regards long-term care. It analyses their impact at the macro- (institutional and quantitative), meso- (service delivery structures) and micro-level (families, caregivers and people in need). As a result the authors find a general trend towards convergence in social care among the countries, and the emergence of a new type of government regulation designed to restructure rather than to reduce welfare programmes.

TL;DR: In this article, the authors used the tools of network analysis and graph theory to graphically and analytically represent the characteristics of world trade and compared the structure of the World Trade Network over time, detecting and interpreting patterns of trade ties among countries.
Abstract: This paper uses the tools of network analysis and graph theory to graphically and analytically represent the characteristics of world trade The structure of the World Trade Network is compared over time, detecting and interpreting patterns of trade ties among countries In particular, we assess whether the entrance of a number of new important players into the world trading system in recent years has changed the main characteristics of the existing structure of world trade, or whether the existing network was simply extended to a new group of countries We also analyze whether the observed changes in international trade flow patterns are related to the multilateral or the regional liberalization policies The results show that trade integration at the world level has been increasing but it is still far from being complete, with the exception of some areas, that there is a strong heterogeneity in the countries’ choice of partners, and that the WTO plays an important role in trade integration The role of the extensive and the intensive margin of trade is also highlighted

TL;DR: The authors used three identity processes (commitment, in-depth exploration, and reconsideration of commitment) from a recently developed model of identity formation to derive empirically identity statuses in a sample of 1952 early and middle adolescents.
Abstract: We used three identity processes (i.e., commitment, in-depth exploration, and reconsideration of commitment) from a recently developed model of identity formation to derive empirically identity statuses in a sample of 1952 early and middle adolescents. By means of cluster analysis, we identified five statuses: achievement, foreclosure, moratorium, searching moratorium, and diffusion. Specifically, we found an intra-status differentiation within moratorium, unraveling the positive and negative facets of this status documented in prior literature. The five clusters could be meaningfully distinguished on a number of variables, such as personality features, psychosocial problems, and parental relationships. These findings indicated that a valid distinction in identity statuses could be made in early and middle adolescence. Finally, age and ethnic background strongly affected the distribution of the participants among the five identity statuses. Implications and suggestions for future research are discussed.

TL;DR: In this article, the authors show how some of the issues raised by Jan Tinbergen have been the step stones of a 50-year long research agenda, and how the numerous empirical and theoretical contributions that followed dealt with old problems and highlighted new ones.
Abstract: Since Jan Tinberben’s original formulation (Tinbergen 1962, Shaping the World Economy, The Twentieth Century Fund, New York), the empirical analysis of bilateral trade flows through the estimation of a gravity equation has gone a long way. It has acquired a solid reputation of good fitting; it gained respected micro foundations that allowed it to move to a mature stage in which the “turn-over” gravity equation has been replaced by a gravity model; and it has dominated the literature on trade policy evaluation. In this chapter we show how some of the issues raised by Tinbergen have been the step stones of a 50-year long research agenda, and how the numerous empirical and theoretical contributions that followed dealt with old problems and highlighted new ones. Some future promising research issues are finally indicated.
