TL;DR: The important antioxidant enzymes such as erythrocyte superoxide dismutase (E-SOD), catalase (CAT), glutathione peroxidase (GSH-Px) and glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase
Abstract: Circulating lipid peroxide, antioxidant components and the activities of defense enzymes were estimated in uterine cervical carcinoma patients (before and after radiotherapy and radiotherapy combined chemotherapy) and compared with controls. Some of the antioxidant components such as glutathione, vitamin E and selenium are reduced in cervical cancer. The reduced levels of vitamin E and glutathione were normalized after treatment. Erythrocyte lipid peroxide (E-LPx) and erythrocyte membrane lipid peroxide (EM-LPx) levels were found to be increased in all the stages of uterine cervical carcinoma. The important antioxidant enzymes such as erythrocyte superoxide dismutase (E-SOD), catalase (CAT), glutathione peroxidase (GSH-Px), glutathione-S-transferase (GST) and glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase (G6PDH) were found to be decreased in uterine cervical carcinoma. These altered biochemical parameters were reversed to normal, of course with varied degree after different mode of therapy. Significant normalization was observed in Type II chemoradiotherapy.

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors investigate whether, by making the anomalous terms (introduced into the Duffin-Kemmer-Petiau equation) sufficiently general, it is possible to escape these inconsistencies.
Abstract: It is known that while spin-1 (Proca) theory with minimal electromagnetic interaction is marred by the Corben-Schwinger anomaly, the inclusion of specific types of 'anomalous' interactions lead to other difficulties such as non-causality of propagation, and the energy spectrum (in homogeneous magnetic fields of sufficient strength) becoming partially non-real The authors investigate whether, by making the anomalous terms (introduced into the Duffin-Kemmer-Petiau equation) sufficiently general, it is possible to escape these inconsistencies The answer, unfortunately, turns out to be in the negative They comment briefly on other formulations for spin-1

TL;DR: In this article, the authors reported on the absorption of oxygen by aqueous sodium sulphite solutions with cobalt sulphate as a catalyst at 30°C and the order of reaction with respect to sulphite and oxygen in the constant absorption rate regime was found to be zero and two respectively.
Abstract: New data have been reported on the absorption of oxygen by aqueous sodium sulphite solutions with cobalt sulphate as catalyst at 30°C. It is observed that the absorption rate increases up to a critical sulphite concentration beyond which the absorption rate becomes constant and this critical concentration varies with the catalyst concentration. The order of reaction with respect to sulphite and oxygen in the constant absorption rate regime was found to be zero and two respectively. The absorption rate is affected by the total ionic strength (sulphite and sulphate) in addition to the effect of pH and catalyst concentraion. The reported data were also analysed to ascertain the effect of temperature and a relationship has been proposed for prediction of the second order reaction rate constant.

TL;DR: A spectrophotometric method and a fluorimetric method were used and the increase in fluorescence confirmed the significance of hydrophobic interactions in the binding of the dye onto the polymer.
Abstract: A spectrophotometric method was used for the quantitative determination of binding in the poly-vinylpyrrolidone–rose bengal system. Binding of tiron, another anionic dye, onto polyvinylpyrrolidone was investigated by equilibrium dialysis. Comparison of binding constants of the two systems indicated the importance of hydrophobic interactions in binding. Because rose bengal can serve as a fluorescent probe, a fluorimetric method was also used and the increase in fluorescence confirmed the significance of hydrophobic interactions in the binding of the dye onto the polymer.

TL;DR: The amount of reduction found in the solvent accessibilities of the various atoms in going from the extended state to the folded state of the molecule indicates the kind of compactness of the tertiary structure in tRNAPhe.
Abstract: In order to assess the solvent–solute association in the tRNAPhe molecule, solvent accessibility calculations were carried out for its crystalline and completely extended states following the method of Lee and Richards. To do this, results from the calculations on model trinucleotide systems pApXpA with different bases at position X were used. In the folded form of the molecule, it was found that the oxygen atoms O(I) and O(II) of almost all the phosphate groups and the O(2′) atoms of the sugar rings situated throughout the backbone were highly exposed to the solvent. The amount of reduction found in the solvent accessibilities of the various atoms in going from the extended state to the folded state of the molecule indicates the kind of compactness of the tertiary structure in tRNAPhe. The results give quantitative support to many characteristics of the tRNA molecule, such as loop sections, buried/exposed residues, hydrophobic interactions, etc., which were thought to be due to other factors.

TL;DR: In this article, a new uncertainty relation is derived for the product of the variances of the two observables A, B when they are measured sequentially on a single ensemble of systems, and it is shown that the two uncertainty relations differ significantly whenever A and B are not compatible.
Abstract: It is noted that the Heisenberg uncertainty relations set a lower bound on the product of variances of two observablesA, B when they are separately measured on two distinct, but identically prepared ensembles. A new uncertainty relation is derived for the product of the variances of the two observablesA, B when they are measured sequentially on a single ensemble of systems. It is shown that the two uncertainty relations differ significantly wheneverA andB are not compatible.

TL;DR: In this article, the rate of polymerization of acrylamide was found to be proportional to the first power of monomer and diglycolic acid and independent of manganese(III) acetate.
Abstract: The kinetics and mechanism of polymerization of acrylamide (AM) initiated by manganese (III) acetate (MTA)-diglycolic acid (DGA) redox system in aqueous sulfuric acid were studied in the temperature range 20-35°C. The overall rates of polymerization and the disappearance of Mn 3+ and the kinetic chain lengths of polyacrylamide were determined. The polymerization reaction is initiated by the organic free radical arising from the Mn 3+ -diglycolic acid reaction and the termination is by the metal ions. The rate of polymerization of acrylamide was found to be proportional to the first power of monomer and diglycolic acid and independent of manganese(III) acetate. The various rate parameters were evaluated.

Abstract: The ambiguous location of photosynthetic carboxylases of mesophyll and bundle sheath chloroplasts of sorghum was investigated after successful homogeneous preparation. The phosphoenol pyruvate carboxylase was found as a particulate enzyme in the mesophyll cell chloroplasts and ribulose 1,5-biphosphate carboxylase in the stroma of the bundle sheath cell chloroplasts. Extensive characterization was carried out on these 2 enzymes for better understanding of the enzyme action.

TL;DR: Results obtained during applications of local anesthetic or colchicine and section at different distances from the tongue indicate that the decreased response was the result of an interruption of axoplasmic flow from the nerve cell bodies in the geniculate ganglion to the taste buds.
Abstract: The response amplitude in the chorda tympani proper nerve of rats to taste stimulation has been studied at different times after interruption of the nerve in the middle ear. The results show that the response in the nerve declined and disappeared completely within 15 h after the nerve was interrupted. As a first sign of deteriorating function a stage of hypersensitivity was observed. Results obtained during applications of local anesthetic or colchicine and section at different distances from the tongue indicate that the decreased response was the result of an interruption of axoplasmic flow from the nerve cell bodies in the geniculate ganglion to the taste buds.

TL;DR: In this paper, the synthesis and characterisation of Pb2+ and Mn2+ salts of mono(hydroxyethyl)-phthalate (HEP) was reported, which is useful for the preparation of condensation polymers.
Abstract: Divalent metal salts of mono(hydroxyethyl)phthalate (HEP) were considered to be of interest as difunctional ionic monomers and are useful for the preparation of condensation polymers. Recently, Matsuda1 reported the preparation of Ca, Mg and Zn salts of mono-(hydroxyethyl)phthalate and their polymers2–7. He prepared these salts by the reaction of HEP with the respective divalent metal oxides. But so far there was no report on the preparation of Pb2+ and Mn2+ salts of HEP. Since metal dicarboxylates can be obtained by the reaction of organic dibasic acids and metal acetates8, Pb2+ and Mn2+ acetates can similarly react with HEP to give their respective salts at the optimum temperature. We report here the synthesis and characterisation of Pb2+ and Mn2+ salts of mono(hydroxyethyl)-phthalate (HEP).

TL;DR: In this article, the neutral-current couplings in general class of gauge models based on the group SU(2).............. L.............. this article were analyzed and compared with those in the standard Weinberg-Salam gauge model.
Abstract: We analyse all the neutral-current phenomena following from the general class of gauge models based on the group SU(2) L ⊗ SU(2) R ⊗ U(1). It is found that the neutral-current couplings in these models bear a remarkable similarity to those in the standard Weinberg-Salam gauge model. The parameter which plays the role of sin2ϑw is found to lie between 0 and 1/2. Comparison with experimental data shows that even a model with the ratio of the masses of the twoZ bosons as small as 1.9 is not ruled out.

TL;DR: In this article, the defect density with activation energy was calculated from the sheet resistance estimated prior to heat treatment and the variations of electrical resistance with temperature were observed. And the authors found that the defect densities F0(E)max and the activation energy Emax increase with the increase of deposition rate.
Abstract: Silver films (thickness ≈ 540 A) are deposited with different deposition rates by thermal evaporation in vacuum (2 × 10−5 Torr) on well cleaned glass substrates. The films are subjected to constant rates of heat treatment and the variations of electrical resistance with temperature are observed. From the resistance versus temperature plots, the variations of defect density with activation energy are calculated. It is found that the defect density F0(E)max and the activation energy Emax increase with the increase of deposition rate. The results are explained from the sheet resistance estimated prior to heat treatment.

TL;DR: In this article, the class of functions f ∈ P(α) and α-close-to-convex functions are defined, and the properties of these functions are investigated.
Abstract: LetP(α) denote the class of functionsf analytic in the unit discE, withf(0)=0,f(z)≠0 (0<|z|<1) andf′(z)≠0 inE, satisfying the condition $$\int\limits_{\theta _1 }^{\theta _2 } {\operatorname{Re} } \left\{ {a\left( {1 + \frac{{zf''\left( z \right)}}{{f'\left( z \right)}}} \right) + \left( {1 - a} \right)\frac{{zf'\left( z \right)}}{{f\left( z \right)}}} \right\}d\theta > - \pi $$ whenever 0≤θ1≤θ2≤θ1+2π,z=reiθ r<1 and α is any positive real number. The functions inP(α) unify the classes of close-to-starlike (α=0) and close-to-convex (α=1) functions. We callf∈P(α) and α-close-to-convex function. In this paper we investigate certain properties of the classP(α).

Abstract: All ladder operators and some recurrence relations of the matrix elements of certain group elements of SO(3), SO(2,1), E(2), SO(4), SO(3,1), and E(3) have been explicitly determined and the underlying factorizations of the second‐ and the fourth‐order linear ordinary differential equations in terms of first‐ and second‐order ladder operators have been transparently demonstrated as an extension to the Schrodinger–Infeld–Miller factorization. These ladder operators are very useful in physical applications where the corresponding matrix elements represent certain physical transitions.
