TL;DR: In this paper, the authors derived the equation of motion for each three-dimensional spin vector and showed that in the continuum limit where the spins lie dense on a line, this set of equations reduces to a nonlinear partial differential equation.
Abstract: For a one-dimensional system of classical spins with nearest neighbour Heisenberg interaction we derive the equation of motion for each three-dimensional spin vector. In the continuum limit where the spins lie dense on a line this set of equations reduces to a nonlinear partial differential equation. In addition to spin-wave solutions we obtain some other special solutions of this equation. In particular we find solitary waves having total energy localised in a finite region, with velocity of propagation inversely proportional to the width of this region. Solutions of still another type are shown to have a diffusive character. The stability of such solutions and the possibility of interaction of two or more solitary waves have not yet been studied.

TL;DR: Oral administration of ethanolic extract of Terminalia chebula fruits for 30 days significantly reduced the levels of blood glucose and glycosylated hemoglobin in diabetic rats and revealed the insulin stimulating action of the fruit extract.
Abstract: The present study was aimed to evaluate the anti-diabetic potential of Terminalia chebula (T. chebula) fruits on streptozotocin (STZ)-induced experimental diabetes in rats. Oral administration of ethanolic extract of the fruits (200 mg/kg body weight/rat/day) for 30 days significantly reduced the levels of blood glucose and glycosylated hemoglobin in diabetic rats. Determination of plasma insulin levels revealed the insulin stimulating action of the fruit extract. Also, the alterations observed in the activities of carbohydrate and glycogen metabolising enzymes were reverted back to near normal after 30 days of treatment with the extract. Electron microscopic studies showed significant morphological changes in the mitochondria and endoplasmic reticulum of pancreatic β cells of STZinduced diabetic rats. Also, a decrease in the number of secretory granules of β-cells was observed in the STZinduced diabetic rats and a these pathological abnormalities were normalized after treatment with T. chebula extract. The efficacy of the fruit extract was comparable with glibenclamide, a well known hypoglycemic drug.

TL;DR: In a retrospective analysis of patients receiving care at YRG Center for AIDS Research and Education, a tertiary HIV referral center in southern India, the mean duration of survival from serodiagnosis was 92 months and patients who had > or =1 opportunistic infection were two times more likely to die.
Abstract: There are few reports of the natural history of human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infection from Asia In a retrospective analysis of 594 patients (729% male; baseline CD4 cell count, 216 cells/microL) receiving care at YRG Center for AIDS Research and Education, a tertiary HIV referral center in southern India, the mean duration of survival from serodiagnosis was 92 months Ninety-three percent of the patients acquired infection through heterosexual contact The most common acquired immune deficiency syndrome-defining illnesses were pulmonary tuberculosis (49%; median duration of survival, 45 months), Pneumocystis carinii pneumonia (6%; median duration of survival, 24 months), cryptococcal meningitis (5%; median duration of survival, 22 months), and central nervous system toxoplasmosis (3%; median duration of survival, 28 months) Persons with a CD4 lymphocyte count of 350 cells/microL Patients who had > or =1 opportunistic infection were 26 times more likely to die (95% CI, 095-709) than were those who did not have an opportunistic infection Antiretroviral therapy for patients with low CD4 lymphocyte counts improved the odds of survival (odds ratio, 537; 95% CI, 182-1583)

TL;DR: Results were similar in analyses restricted to high‐risk human papilloma virus (HPV)‐positive cases and controls, and no relationship was found between cervical HPV positivity and number of full‐term pregnancies, or age at first full-term pregnancy among controls.
Abstract: The International Collaboration of Epidemiological Studies of Cervical Cancer has combined individual data on 11,161 women with invasive carcinoma, 5,402 women with cervical intraepithelial neoplasia (CIN)3/carcinoma in situ and 33,542 women without cervical carcinoma from 25 epidemiological studies. Relative risks (RRs) and 95% confidence intervals (CIs) of cervical carcinoma in relation to number of full-term pregnancies, and age at first full-term pregnancy, were calculated conditioning by study, age, lifetime number of sexual partners and age at first sexual intercourse. Number of full-term pregnancies was associated with a risk of invasive cervical carcinoma. After controlling for age at first full-term pregnancy, the RR for invasive cervical carcinoma among parous women was 1.76 (95% CI: 1.53-2.02) for 7 full-term pregnancies compared with 1-2. For CIN3/carcinoma in situ, no significant trend was found with increasing number of births after controlling for age at first full-term pregnancy among parous women. Early age at first full-term pregnancy was also associated with risk of both invasive cervical carcinoma and CIN3/carcinoma in situ. After controlling for number of full-term pregnancies, the RR for first full-term pregnancy at age <17 years compared with 25 years was 1.77 (95% CI: 1.42-2.23) for invasive cervical carcinoma, and 1.78 (95% CI: 1.26-2.51) for CIN3/carcinoma in situ. Results were similar in analyses restricted to high-risk human papilloma virus (HPV)-positive cases and controls. No relationship was found between cervical HPV positivity and number of full-term pregnancies, or age at first full-term pregnancy among controls. Differences in reproductive habits may have contributed to differences in cervical cancer incidence between developed and developing countries (Less)
