TL;DR: In this article, comparative factor analytic research related to the investigation of age-related changes in the pattern of intelligence is reviewed and some implications for the construction of developmental curves are discussed.
Abstract: Comparative factor analytic research related to the investigation of age-related changes in the pattern of intelligence is reviewed. Particular attention is paid to studies examining various forms of the differentiation hypothesis of intelligence as originally proposed by Garrett and Burt. While there appears sufficient evidence to indicate the existence of age-related changes in the factorial pattern of intelligence, the data are too contradictory to permit a clear-cut description of the nature of these changes. Attention is drawn to a number of methodological problems associated with comparative factor analytic research, and some implications for the construction of developmental curves are discussed. Finally, suggestions are made for the use of manipulative experiments in the exploration of the developmental conditions that might produce changes in the structural organization of intelligence.

TL;DR: In this article, the authors used path analysis to compare the performance of Rummel's and his approach to the one presented in this paper, using data on up to 82 nations and 236 variables, had missing data, aggregated conflict events over 3 years from 1955 to 1957, and transformed many of his variables in order to pull in extreme values.
Abstract: As I share Blalock’s (1964, p. 183) skepticism that ’factor analysis may ... not be appropriate for census data or other types of analyses in which some measured variables are caused by other measured variables’, I have decided to rely more on path analysis2 (Wright 1923, Duncan 1968). There are other differences between Rummel’s and my approach. Rummel used data on up to 82 nations and 236 variables, had missing data, aggregated conflict events over 3 years from 1955 to 1957, and transformed many of his variables in order to pull in extreme values; whereas I used data on 59 nations and up to 28

TL;DR: The historical development of life-span developmental psychology in Europe is traced through the last three centuries with particular consideration of the German language area as mentioned in this paper, and it is shown that the concern with human development as a continuous process from birth to death can be observed in the literary, philosophical, and scientific works of the eighteenth century.
Abstract: The historical development of life-span developmental psychology in Europe is traced through the last three centuries with particular consideration of the German language area. It is shown that the concern with human development as a continuous process from birth to death can be observed in the literary, philosophical, and scientific works of the eighteenth century. In the first half of the nineteenth century, the foundations of a psychology of the human life-span in the modern sense were laid by Quetelet, even before the introduction of a modern child psychology in the Preyer and Hall tradition at the end of the same century. In Germany, the problem of the psychological development of adults attracted considerable attention before the First World War in connection with differential psychology. After 1920, large-scale research into the changes of behavior in adults and old people were conducted. In particular, Charlotte Buhler contributed toward a comprehensive psychology of the whole course of life. Finally, current German research in life-span psychology and psychogerontology is discussed emphasizing methodological issues.
