Abstract: Develops an orientation system for measuring customer satisfaction. Reveals dimensions of satisfaction experienced by retailers, taking account of the relevant literature, empirical studies on the satisfaction of retail organizations with their suppliers and the results of discussion with experts. Confirms that these are verified according to empirical criteria and quantified in respect of their contribution to delivering satisfaction to retailers. Identifies approaches on which to base activities, allowing suppliers of branded articles to give their customers greater customer satisfaction.

Abstract: We propose a semiparametric factor model, which approximates the implied volatility surface (IVS) in a finite dimensional function space. Unlike standard principal component approaches typically used to reduce complexity, our approach is tailored to the degenerated design of IVS data. In particular, we only fit in the local neighborhood of the design points by exploiting the expiry effect present in option data. Using DAX index option data, we estimate the nonparametric components and a low-dimensional time series of latent factors. The modeling approach is completed by studying vector autoregressive models fitted to the latent factors.

Abstract: “Serious Games” is a unique industry that is concerned with the training/learning performance assessment of its clients. It is one of three digital technology industries (along with digital games, and online learning) that are rapidly advancing into the arena of analytics. The analytics from these industries all came from the tracing of user-generated data as they interacted with the systems, but differed from one another in the primary purposes for such analytics. For example, the purpose of game analytics is to support the growth of digital (entertainment) games, while that of learning analytics is to support the online learning industries. Although some game and learning analytics can indeed be used in serious games, they lack specific metrics and methods that outline the effectiveness of serious games—an important feature to stakeholders. Serious Games Analytics need to provide (actionable) insights that are of values to the stakeholders—specific strategies/policies to improve the serious games, and to (re)train or remediate play-learners for performance improvement. Since the performance metrics from one industry are unlikely to transfer well into another industry, those that are optimal for use in the Serious Games industry must be properly identified as Serious Games Analytics—to properly measure, assess, and improve performance with serious games.

Abstract: We present a novel approach to the tomographic reconstruction of binary objects from few projection directions within a limited range of angles. A quadratic objective functional over binary variables comprising the squared projection error and a prior penalizing non-homogeneous regions, is supplemented with a concave functional enforcing binary solutions. Application of a primal-dual subgradient algorithm to a suitable decomposition of the objective functional into the difference of two convex functions leads to an algorithm which provably converges with parallel updates to binary solutions. Numerical results demonstrate robustness against local minima and excellent reconstruction performance using five projections within a range of 90^@?. Our approach is applicable to quite general objective functions over binary variables with constraints and thus applicable to a wide range of problems within and beyond the field of discrete tomography.

Abstract: Large quantitaties of inflammatory mediators are released during the course of endotoxaemia. These mediators in turn can stimulate the sympathetic nervous system (SNS) to release catecholamines, which ultimately regulate inflammation-associated impairment in tissue perfusion, myocardial impairment and vasodilatation. Treatment of sepsis is based on surgical and/or antibiotic therapy, appropriate fluid management and application of vasoactive catecholamines. With respect to the latter, discussions on the vasopressor of choice are still ongoing. Over the past decade dopamine has been considered the 'first line' vasopressor and is frequently used to improve organ perfusion and blood pressure. However, there is a growing body of evidence that dopamine has deleterious side effects; therefore, its clinical relevance seems to be more and more questionable. Nevertheless, it has not been convincingly demonstrated that other catecholamines are superior to dopamine in this respect. Apart from its haemodynamic action, dopamine can modulate immune responses by influencing the cytokine network. This leads to inhibition of expression of adhesion molecules, inhibition of cytokine and chemokine production, inhibition of neutrophil chemotaxis and disturbed T-cell proliferation. In the present review we summarize our knowledge of the immunomodulatory effects of dopamine, with an emphasis on the mechanisms by which these effects are mediated.
