Abstract: School-based consultation typically focuses on individual student problems and on a small number of students rather than on changing the classroom system. The Classroom Check-up (CCU) was developed as a classwide consultation model to address the need for classroom level support while minimizing treatment integrity problems common to school-based consultation. The purpose of the study was to evaluate the effects of the CCU and Visual Performance Feedback on teacher and student behavior. Results indicated that implementation of the CCU plus Visual Performance Feedback increased teacher implementation of classroom management strategies, including increased use of praise, use of behavior specific praise, and decreased use of reprimands. Further, these changes in teacher behavior contributed to decreases in classroom disruptive behavior. The results are encouraging because they suggest that consultation at the classroom level can create meaningful teacher and student behavior change.

Abstract: A known host-guest assembly, organized only by means of relatively weak dispersive forces, exhibits hitherto unappreciated thermal stability. The hexagonal close-packed arrangement of calix[4]arene contains lattice voids that can occlude small, highly volatile molecules. This host-guest system can be exploited to retain a range of freons, as well as methane, not only well above their normal boiling points, but also at relatively high temperatures and low pressures. The usually overlooked van der Waals interactions in organic crystals can indeed be used in a highly stable supramolecular system for gas storage.

Abstract: I. Introduction ABOUT 5 yr ago it was discovered that a protein which was secreted in quantity by preimplantation sheep conceptuses and implicated in preventing luteolysis during the second and third weeks of pregnancy was, in fact, structurally related to type I interferons (IFN), proteins best known for their antiviral and immunomodulatory activities. This discovery attracted considerable attention because it revealed a new and completely unsuspected role for a cytokine as a reproductive hormone. Several reviews have been published on various aspects of this topic (1–10). In the more comprehensive updated article that follows, we describe how IFN came to be implicated as antiluteolytic agents in domestic ruminant species, the properties of these IFN, and some of the unusual features pertaining to their expression and transcriptional regulation.
