TL;DR: In this paper, a measurement of the double-differential inclusive jet cross section as a function of the jet transverse momentum pT and the absolute jet rapidity abs(y) is presented.
Abstract: A measurement of the double-differential inclusive jet cross section as a function of the jet transverse momentum pT and the absolute jet rapidity abs(y) is presented. Data from LHC proton-proton collisions at sqrt(s) = 8 TeV, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 19.7 inverse-femtobarns, have been collected with the CMS detector. Jets are reconstructed using the anti-kT clustering algorithm with a size parameter of 0.7 in a phase space region covering jet pT from 74 GeV up to 2.5 TeV and jet absolute rapidity up to abs(y) = 3.0. The low-pT jet range between 21 and 74 GeV is also studied up to abs(y) = 4.7, using a dedicated data sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 5.6 inverse-picobarns. The measured jet cross section is corrected for detector effects and compared with the predictions from perturbative QCD at next-to-leading order (NLO) using various sets of parton distribution functions (PDF). Cross section ratios to the corresponding measurements performed at 2.76 and 7 TeV are presented. From the measured double-differential jet cross section, the value of the strong coupling constant evaluated at the Z mass is alpha[S](M[Z]) = 0.1164 +0.0060 -0.0043, where the errors include the PDF, scale, nonperturbative effects and experimental uncertainties, using the CT10 NLO PDFs. Improved constraints on PDFs based on the inclusive jet cross section measurement are presented.

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors measured the cross sections of photon transverse momenta pt[gamma] > 15 GeV and for separations between photons and final-state charged leptons in the pseudorapidity-azimuthal plane of Delta R[l, gamma] > 0.7 in l nu gamma and ll gamma final states.
Abstract: Measurements of W gamma and Z gamma production in proton-proton collisions at sqrt(s) = 7 TeV are used to extract limits on anomalous triple gauge couplings. The results are based on data recorded by the CMS experiment at the LHC that correspond to an integrated luminosity of 5.0 inverse femtobarns. The cross sections are measured for photon transverse momenta pt[gamma] > 15 GeV, and for separations between photons and final-state charged leptons in the pseudorapidity-azimuthal plane of Delta R[l, gamma] > 0.7 in l nu gamma and ll gamma final states, where l refers either to an electron or a muon. A dilepton invariant mass requirement of m[ll] > 50 GeV is imposed for the Z gamma process. No deviations are observed relative to predictions from the standard model, and limits are set on anomalous WW gamma, ZZ gamma, and Z gamma gamma triple gauge couplings.

TL;DR: It was concluded that the observed phenomena are caused by the water structure changes close to the side chain of leucine, caused by enforced hydrophobic hydration, i.e. formation of clathrate-like hydrates.

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors investigated whether successive recruitment failures in the anchovy fishery in the Bay of Biscay were due to changes in the zooplankton biomass or composition.
Abstract: The objective of this study was to investigate whether successive recruitment failures in the anchovy fishery in the Bay of Biscay were due to changes in the zooplankton biomass or composition. Image analysis and automatic recognition were used to analyse zooplankton samples collected during diel egg production method spring surveys from 1998 to 2006. We were not able to detect any trend in zooplankton biomass during this period. The zooplankton spatial distribution showed permanent features with large organisms being more abundant over the shelf break and outer areas. Finally, we found a negative correlation between anchovy recruitment and zooplankton biomass which suggests that the 2002‐2006 failures in anchovy recruitment in the Bay of Biscay are not due to a decrease in mesozooplankton biomass.
