Abstract: Parkinsonian bradykinesia is defined by a slowness in the execution of movement. We studied the pathophysiology of this symptom in rapid arm-reaching movements to a visual target carried out in a reaction-time task. The major cause of bradykinesia was found to be depression in the rate of rise of electromyographic activity. The amplitude of the peak of this activity did not change significantly. There was no change either in the sequential activation of muscles, in the amount of co-contraction activity, in the accuracy of aim toward the visual target, or in the movement trajectory.

Abstract: Transcranial Direct Current Stimulation (tDCS) is an up-and-coming electrical neurostimulation technique increasingly used both in healthy subjects and in selected groups of patients. Due to the high density of neurons in the cerebellum, its peculiar anatomical organization with the cortex lying superficially below the skull and its diffuse connections with motor and associative areas of the cerebrum, the cerebellum is becoming a major target for neuromodulation of the cerebellocerebral networks. We discuss the recent studies based on cerebellar tDCS with a focus on the numerous technical and open issues which remain to be solved. Our current knowledge of the physiological impacts of tDCS on cerebellar circuitry is criticized. We provide a comparison with transcranial Alternating Current Stimulation (tACS), another promising transcranial electrical neurostimulation technique. Although both tDCS and tACS are becoming established techniques to modulate the cerebellocerebral networks, it is surprising that their impacts on cerebellar disorders remains unclear. A major reason is that the literature lacks large trials with a double-blind, sham-controlled, and cross-over experimental design in cerebellar patients.

Abstract: In relation with CO2 capture by chemical absorption into aqueous amine-based solvents, absorption and regeneration parameters by separate absorption and regeneration tests are determined. An absorption parameter for different types of amine-based solvents is evaluated by performing absorption tests at 298 K and atmospheric pressure with a gas-liquid contactor and deducing apparent kinetic constants. The regeneration parameter is obtained from a CO2 concentration temporal profile measured in a regeneration cell at the boiling temperature of each solvent. By combining both parameters it is possible to compare the absorption-regeneration performances of all the solvents studied. Good absorption-regeneration performances of cyclical amines, especially of piperidine (PIP) and piperazine (PZ), are highlighted. The interesting potential of 2-amino-2-methyl-1-propanol (AMP) and methyldiethanolamine (MDEA) activated with PZ and PIP is also considered.

Abstract: An inclusive search is presented for new heavy particle pairs produced in √s=7 TeV proton-proton collisions at the LHC using 4.7±0.1 fb-1 of integrated luminosity. The selected events are analyzed in the 2D razor space of MR, an event-by-event indicator of the heavy particle mass scale, and R, a dimensionless variable related to the missing transverse energy. The third-generation sector is probed using the event heavy-flavor content. The search is sensitive to generic supersymmetry models with minimal assumptions about the superpartner decay chains. No excess is observed in the number of events beyond that predicted by the standard model. Exclusion limits are derived in the CMSSM framework as well as for simplified models. Within the CMSSM parameter space considered, gluino masses up to 800 GeV and squark masses up to 1.35 TeV are excluded at 95% confidence level depending on the model parameters. The direct production of pairs of top or bottom squarks is excluded for masses as high as 400 GeV.

Abstract: Iron oxide (nano)particles are powerful contrast agents for MRI and tags for magnetic cellular labeling. The need for quantitative methods to evaluate the iron content of contrast media solutions and biological matrixes is thus obvious.
