Abstract: Objective To model the interaction of hormones, symptoms and psychosocial factors on women's sexuality during the menopausal transition.Design and methods A prospective, observational study was carried out of a community-based sample of 438 Australian-born women aged 45-55 years at baseline. The study comprised six annual assessments in the women's own homes utilizing a core questionnaire, with rating scales for well-being and daily hassles, and a Personal Experiences Questionnaire as a measure of sexual functioning. Levels of follicle stimulating hormone (FSH), estradiol and inhibin were measured annually. Statistical analysis was performed by structural equation modelling.Results The retention rate was 90% (final sample size after exclusions, n = 354). The normal fit index for the global model obtained was 0.92. There is a significant direct effect of menopausal status on vaginal dryness/dyspareunia, and an indirect effect on sexual responsivity via a direct effect of menopausal status on symptoms, whic...

Abstract: We probe charge photogeneration and subsequent recombination dynamics in neat regioregular poly(3-hexylthiophene) films over six decades in time by means of time-resolved photoluminescence spectroscopy. Exciton dissociation at 10 K occurs extrinsically at interfaces between molecularly ordered and disordered domains. Polaron pairs thus produced recombine by tunneling with distributed rates governed by the distribution of electron-hole radii. Quantum-chemical calculations suggest that hot-exciton dissociation at such interfaces results from a high charge-transfer character.

Abstract: In recent years, research in natural language processing has increasingly focused on normalizing SMS messages. Different well-defined approaches have been proposed, but the problem remains far from being solved: best systems achieve a 11% Word Error Rate. This paper presents a method that shares similarities with both spell checking and machine translation approaches. The normalization part of the system is entirely based on models trained from a corpus. Evaluated in French by 10-fold-cross validation, the system achieves a 9.3% Word Error Rate and a 0.83 BLEU score.

Abstract: The coupling between matter and gravity in general relativity is given by a proportionality relation between the stress tensor and the geometry. This is an oriented assumption driven by the fact that both the stress tensor and the Einstein tensor are divergenceless. However, general relativity is in essence a nonlinear theory, so there is no obvious reason why the coupling to matter should be linear. On another hand, modified theories of gravity usually affect the vacuum dynamics, yet keep the coupling to matter linear. In this Letter, we address the implications of consistent nonlinear gravity-matter coupling. The Eddington-inspired Born-Infeld theory recently introduced by Banados and Ferreira provides an enlightening realization of such coupling modifications. We find that this theory coupled to a perfect fluid reduces to general relativity coupled to a nonlinearly modified perfect fluid, leading to an ambiguity between modified coupling and modified equation of state. We discuss observational consequences of this degeneracy and argue that such a completion of general relativity is viable from both an experimental and theoretical point of view through energy conditions, consistency, and singularity-avoidance perspectives. We use these results to discuss the impact of changing the coupling paradigm.
