TL;DR: In this paper, the synthesis of glasses by hot-pressing of gels was studied for pure SiO2, as well as for La 2O3-SiO2 and B2O3SiO 2 systems, and different methods of pressing were investigated; they influence the residual OH− content of resultant glasses.
Abstract: The synthesis of glasses by hot-pressing of gels was studied for pure SiO2, as well as for La2O3-SiO2 and B2O3-SiO2 systems. It was recognized that gels prepared by hydrolysis and polycondensation of organometallic compounds crystallize less quickly than those obtained from hydrosols, and are, therefore, particularly suited for hot-pressing. Different methods of pressing were investigated; they influence the residual OH− content of resultant glasses. Murrayet al.'s densification model based on viscous flow was found to apply in the case of the gels under study and a dynamic viscosity evaluation is proposed to determine rapidly the pressing parameters for a given gel-glass conversion.

TL;DR: A fluorescent technique applying specific LHRH and vasotocin antisera was used for the immunocytochemical localization of the respective neurosecretory systems in the hypothalamus of gonadectomized, testosteronetreated and/or serotonin injected male domestic ducks.
Abstract: A fluorescent technique applying specific LHRH and vasotocin antisera was used for the immunocytochemical localization of the respective neurosecretory systems in the hypothalamus of gonadectomized, testosteronetreated and/or serotonin injected male domestic ducks. An immunoreactive (IR) LHRH-producing system, with perikarya located in the preoptic nucleus, could be traced through the ventral hypothalamus down to the external layer of the rostral and caudal ME, in close vicinity to the hypophysial portal system. An IR-vasotocin system originating in the paraventricular and supraoptic nuclei ran through the ventral hypothalamus, but terminated in (i) the external layer of the rostral ME, and (ii) in the posterior lobe of the hypophysis.

TL;DR: The assay allowed us to detect annual variations in thyroid activity as well as significant changes after starvation or cold exposure, and no detectable thyroxine was formed in surgically thyroidectomized ducks.
Abstract: Plasma thyroxine concentration was measured in ducks by the thyroxine-binding globulin technique. The assay allowed us to detect annual variations in thyroid activity as well as significant changes after starvation or cold exposure. No detectable thyroxine was formed in surgically thyroidectomized ducks.

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors discuss the reliability of the Io-U dating method and report on the age of fossils from the Ouljian stage, outcropping along the Mediterranean coast in southern Spain.
Abstract: IN this note we discuss the reliability of the Io–U dating method and report on the age of fossils from the Ouljian stage, outcropping along the Mediterranean coast in southern Spain. That this method can produce good results is evident from the fact that the measured ages for these fossils, all from the same stratigraphic horizon, show a standard deviation of only 6,100 yr, which is well within our precision limits. The mean age of the samples is 98,000 yr.

TL;DR: In this article, the Poincare canonical variables of the Hamiltonian of a first order theory of Jupiter perturbed by Saturn are expressed as functions of the time complexity of the perturbation.
Abstract: The elimination of the critical terms inside the Hamiltonian of a first order theory of Jupiter perturbed by Saturn is carried out through the Poincare canonical variables and the Hori's procedure. Powers of the eccentricities and the sines of inclinations which are>3 are neglected. The Poincare variablesL1,H1,P1,λ1,K1,Q1 of Jupiter which result from a previous elimination of the short period terms are expressed in terms of the Poincare canonical variablesL u ′ ,H u ′ ,P u ′ ,λ u ′ ,Q u ′ ;u=1, 2; index 1 Jupiter, index 2 Saturn resulting from the elimination of the short period and critical terms. The differential equations inH u ′ ,P u ′ ,K u ′ ,Q u ′ are solved through the method of Lagrange and the analytical expressions ofL1,H1,P1,λ1,K1,Q1 as functions of timet are finally obtained.

TL;DR: This paper gives a guideline for obtaining the dynamic model of Cable-Driven Manipulators in order to damp the vibrations, to counter the external forces automatically, or to predict the behavior of a projected mechanical system of this type.
Abstract: From the control point-of-view, Cable-Driven Manipulators have the advantadges, of low inertias, low friction and backlash, that is of good force-reflecting properties. They may however exhibit vibrations and static errors due to elasticity in the mechanisms. This paper gives a guideline for obtaining the dynamic model of such manipulators in order to damp the vibrations, to counter the external forces automatically, or to predict the behavior of a projected mechanical system of this type. The proposed Computer-Aided techniques make use of automated equation generation and modal analyses.

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors present an extension of a dynamic logical network simulation to a dynamic deductive fault simulation, which shows good results in both the logical and the deductive aspects of the simulation.
Abstract: In this paper, the authors present an extension of a dynamic logical network simulation to a dynamic deductive fault simulation. In this paper, we present a model which allows the dynamic propagation of both logical transitions and fault lists. An convenient algorithm has been deduced from this model. Its implementation gives a simple and efficient simulation called “SIMDE”. Finally, an example will be given to illustrate the propagation procedure.

TL;DR: This work has tried to explore, using immunocytochemistry, the vasotocin-producing system in the hypothalamus of some nonmammalian vertebrates that are commonly used as neuroendocrine models.
Abstract: Vasotocin has been demonstrated to be a posthypophyseal antidiuretic factor in amphibians, reptiles, and birds (ACHER et al., 1969; BENTLEY, 1971). Using specific antibodies directed against this peptide, we have tried to explore, using immunocytochemistry, the vasotocin-producing system in the hypothalamus of some nonmammalian vertebrates that are commonly used as neuroendocrine models.

TL;DR: In this paper, the X-ray diffraction studies of vitreous B2O3 provide a good illustration of the progress in structure determination of inorganic glasses in general.
Abstract: X-ray diffraction studies of vitreous B2O3 provide a good illustration of the progress in structure determination of inorganic glasses in general. An important glass network former with interesting physico-chemical properties, B2O3 has been studied almost as extensively as vitreous SiO2; the determination of its structure met, however, with additional difficulties, the main one being for a long time the lack of reliable information on the structure of the crystalline B2O3 itself.

TL;DR: The notion of a Rees ring was introduced in view of what one calls today the Artin-Rees lemma as discussed by the authors, and it is the Rees algebra of an ideal of a commutative ring with identity.
Abstract: The notion of a Rees ring was introduced in view of what one calls today the Artin — Rees lemma. In fact, it is the Rees algebra of an ideal of a commutative ring with identity. We give in this paper a number of results which concern the Rees algebra of a module over a commutative ring with identity which also complete those of a previous paper (cf. [7]). In particular, we show that the Rees algebra of a module can be approached, in a sense which is made precise in the paper, through tensor or symmetric flat algebras.

TL;DR: It is suggested that these various limbic and brain stem areas might be involved in some "limbic system-midbrain circuit" with two components : the forebrain component might beinvolved in the regulation and diurnal modulation of basal hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenocortical function, the brain-stem component interferring with stress-induced responses.
Abstract: Extensive multiple electrolytic lesions were placed into the nucleus raphes of the brain stem in the pigeon. Diurnal pituitary-adrenocortical rhythmicity appeared not to be altered and basal plasma corticosterone level remained quite normal in raphe lesioned birds.Electrical stimulations through permanently implanted electrode were delivered in various central nervous structures in unanaesthetized, freely moving pigeons. Stimulations of nucleus raphes and of various parts of formatio reticularis led to a significant rise in plasma corticosterone within 16 to 19 min after the beginning of the stimulating session. Then, plasma B came again to initial level within 15 minutes. Stimulations of the corticotropic area of the hypothalamus (n. posterior medialis hypothalami) and of archistriatum dorsalis induced an early plasma corticosterone increase occurring immediately after the stimulating burst (10 min). Stimulating the n. septum medialis also had an immediate, but reverse (decrease) effect on plasma...

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors studied different classes of endomorphisms of the restricted power series rings with respect to an arbitrary non-nilpotent ideal in a commutative ring.
Abstract: The idea to write this paper was the completion of the paper of N. Sankaran (cf.[6]). In fact, in his theorem, he suppose that all automorphisms of the restricted power series rings with respect to the m-adic topology of the maximal ideal of a local ring is anautomorphism by substitution. But this is true for all injective endomorphisms (see our Proposition 1.5.). We study here different classes of endomorphisms of the restricted power series rings with respect to an arbitrary non nilpotent ideal in a commutative ring. To do this, we follow very closely the techniques of M.J. O'Malley concerning the rings of power series, but adapted to the case of the rings of restricted power series (cf.[3],[4]).
