Abstract: We report a detailed study of the ${\mathrm{Ga}}_{1\ensuremath{-}x}{\mathrm{Al}}_{x}\mathrm{Sb}$ band structure over the entire composition range. We have determined the energies, as a function of temperature, at which the direct transitions ${\ensuremath{\Gamma}}_{8}^{v}\ensuremath{\rightarrow}{\ensuremath{\Gamma}}_{6}^{c}({E}_{0})$, ${\ensuremath{\Gamma}}_{7}^{v}\ensuremath{\rightarrow}{\ensuremath{\Gamma}}_{6}^{c}({E}_{0}+{\ensuremath{\Delta}}_{0})$, ${L}_{4,5}^{v}\ensuremath{\rightarrow}{L}_{6}^{c}({E}_{1})$, and ${L}_{6}^{v}\ensuremath{\rightarrow}{L}_{6}^{c}({E}_{1}+{\ensuremath{\Delta}}_{1})$ occur, and those at which the indirect transitions ${\ensuremath{\Gamma}}_{8}^{v}\ensuremath{\rightarrow}{X}_{6}^{c}({E}_{X})$ and ${\ensuremath{\Gamma}}_{8}^{v}\ensuremath{\rightarrow}{L}_{6}^{c}({E}_{L})$ occur. A simple physical model is proposed to explain the experimental values of the ${E}_{0}$, ${\ensuremath{\Delta}}_{0}$, ${E}_{1}$, ${\ensuremath{\Delta}}_{1}$ bowing parameters. A detailed comparison is made between our results and previously reported ones.

Further, the combination of light and CDZ leads to a 30% decrease in weight of the liver, indicating liver damage This is also supported by the percentage of conjugated urinary metabolites being 15–25 times lower than in the non-irradiated CDZ-treated rats, possibly caused by a decrease of enzymatic activity

Abstract: The nucleation and crystallization behaviour of a basalt glass-ceramic was studied by small-angle neutron scattering (SANS). The interparticle interference effects in the SANS spectra of the different nucleated samples indicate that the number density of crystallites, measured at the longest crystallization time at 710‡ C, saturates with the nucleation time at different values depending on the nucleation temperatures; the saturation level is higher at lower temperatures. This number density, measured at the shortest crystallization time, shows a maximum around 635‡ C (nucleation maximum) and it also decreases with the time of crystallization at 710‡ C and saturates at higher times, depending on the nucleation treatment; this is interpreted as due to the redissolution of the smaller particles as the larger ones grow. There is also competition between the nucleation and growth processes at the higher nucleation temperature. The crystallization behaviour of this glass-ceramic tends to follow an Ostwald ripening mechanism at higher crystallization times.

Abstract: Summary Virus titres can be easily estimated with the dilution method. In contrat to the plaque assay method, a large number of titrations may be conveniently performed while maintaining acceptable accuracy. In this report, we optimize experimental conditions to perform the dilution method (or end point method) and we propose appropriate tables to estimate the virus titre and its confidence limits. These tables were computed with the maximum likelihood method, which offers the best statistical processing of the data.

Abstract: A geometric algorithm for performing bending operations on polyhedral objects is described. The hypotheses, conditions and model of the bending process are defined, and then the mathematical model of bending is developed for each element of the boundary representation of a polyhedron. The algorithm has applications as a new means of generating geometric models and, in the CAD/CAM field, for simulating bending processes used to manufacture parts. The algorithm has been implemented and examples are given of objects transformed by the bending operation.

Abstract: The axonal transport of neurosecretory material was studied in neurosecretory axons of the supraoptico-posthypophyseal system after in-situ transection of the median eminence. Two hours, 8 h, and 18 h after the lesion, both vasopressin and oxytocin antibodies revealed progressive accumulations of immunoreactive material not only in the proximal but also in the distal stumps of the transected axons. The electronmicroscopic examination of these axonal portions revealed that such intense immunopositive labelings could be correlated, in both stumps, to a conspicuous accumulation of neurosecretory granules. It is concluded that, under normal physiological conditions, a significant amount of axoplasmic neurosecretory material is transported in retrograde direction and that such a retrograde transport mainly involves neurosecretory granules.

Abstract: Clifford algebras of polynomial forms of degree n > 2, introduced by N. Roby are infinite dimensional when the module has rank bigger than I. However, in the case of diagonalizable forms and of binary cubics, we can show that these algebras have finite dimensional quotients. When forms are nondegenerate in a natural sense, these quotients are separable algebras. In the second case, we can also give a precise description of the Clifford algebra itself.
