TL;DR: World consumption of soybean ( Glycine max ) in 2008 was over 221 million metric tons, with approximately 50% of this supply coming from U.S. production, where soybean plantings on an annual basis are over 77 million ha.
Abstract: World consumption of soybean ( Glycine max ) in 2008 was over 221 million metric tons, with approximately 50% of this supply coming from U.S. production, where soybean plantings on an annual basis are over 77 million ha. Soybeans are desired on the marketplace as a valuable source of protein and oil

TL;DR: In this article, a parent rating scale containing the 18 symptoms of ADHD was examined in a sample of 4666 participants ranging in age from 4 to 20 years old who attended kindergarten through 12th grade in 22 school districts across the United States.
Abstract: Changes in the diagnostic criteria for attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) have necessitated the creation of new measures for clinical assessment. The factor structure of a parent rating scale containing the 18 symptoms of ADHD was examined in this study. Factor analyses and assessment of differences in ADHD ratings across sex, age, and ethnic group were conducted using a sample of 4666 participants ranging in age from 4 to 20 years old who attended kindergarten through 12th grade in 22 school districts across the United States. Two factors (Inattention and Hyperactivity–Impulsivity) were derived and normative data for a nationally representative sample are presented. A higher frequency of ADHD symptoms was found for boys, younger children, and African-American participants. Potential uses of this scale in clinical practice and research are discussed.

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors evaluate claims that emotional intelligence is significantly related to transformational and other leadership be- haviors, and find that ratings of both emotional intelligence and leadership behaviors were provided by the same source (self, subordinates, peers, or superiors).
Abstract: The purpose of this study is to evaluate claims that emotional intelligence is significantly related to transformational and other leadership be haviors. Results (based on 62 independent samples) indicated a validity estimate of .59 when ratings of both emotional intelligence and leadership behaviors were provided by the same source (self, subordinates, peers, or superiors). However, when ratings of the constructs were derived from different sources, the validity estimate was .12. Lower validity estimates were found for transactional and laissez-faire leadership behaviors. Separate analyses were performed for each measure of emotional intelligence. Trait measures of emotional intelligence tended to show higher validities than ability-based measures of emotional intelligence. Agreement across ratings sources for the same construct was low for both transformational leadership (.14) and emotional intelligence (.16).

TL;DR: Wang et al. as mentioned in this paper computed the Standardized Precipitation Evapotranspiration Index (SPEI) based on the monthly precipitation and air temperature values at 609 locations over China during the period 1951-2010.
Abstract: The Standardized Precipitation Evapotranspiration Index (SPEI) was computed based on the monthly precipitation and air temperature values at 609 locations over China during the period 1951–2010.Various characteristics of drought across China were examined including: long-term trends, percentage of area affected, intensity, duration, and drought frequency. The results revealed that severe and extreme droughts have become more serious since late 1990s for all of China (with dry area increasing by ∼3.72% per decade); and persistent multi-year severe droughts were more frequent in North China, Northeast China, and western Northwest China; significant drying trends occurred over North China, the southwest region of Northeast China, central and eastern regions of Northwest China, the central and southwestern parts of Southwest China and southwestern and northeastern parts of western Northwest mainly due to a decrease in precipitation coupled with a general increase in temperature. In addition, North China, the western Northwest China, and the Southwest China had their longest drought durations during the 1990s and 2000s. Droughts also affected western Northwest, eastern Northwest, North, and Northeast regions of China more frequently during the recent three decades. The results of this article could provide certain references and triggers for establishing a drought early warning system in China. © 2013 Royal Meteorological Society
