Abstract: Probiotics appear to be useful in the prevention or treatment of several gastrointestinal disorders, including infectious diarrhea, antibiotic diarrhea, and traveler's diarrhea. Results of preliminary human and animal studies suggest that patients with inflammatory diseases, and even irritable bowel syndrome, may benefit from probiotic therapy. Probiotics represent an exciting therapeutic advance, although much investigation must be undertaken before their role in gastroenterology is clearly delineated. Questions related to probiotic origin, survivability, and adherence are all important considerations for further study. More important, each probiotic proposed must be studied individually and extensively to determine its efficacy and safety in each disorder for which its use may be considered.

Abstract: Opening a tunable and sizable band gap in single-layer graphene (SLG) without degrading its structural integrity and carrier mobility is a significant challenge. Using density functional theory calculations, we show that the band gap of SLG can be opened to 0.16 eV (without an electric field) and 0.34 eV (with a strong electric field) when properly sandwiched between two hexagonal boron nitride single layers. The zero-field band gaps are increased by more than 50% when the many-body effects are included. The ab initio quantum transport simulation of a dual-gated field effect transistor (FET) made of such a sandwich structure reveals an electric-field-enhanced transport gap, and the on/off current ratio is increased by a factor of 8.0 compared with that of a pure SLG FET. The tunable and sizeable band gap and structural integrity render this sandwich structure a promising candidate for high-performance SLG FETs. Jing Lu and co-workers have revealed how to open up a tunable band gap in single-layer graphene, the one-atom-thick honeycomb carbon layer that has sparked much interest both in fundamental physics and in practical applications. Although graphene's excellent mechanical, thermal and electrical properties are very attractive, one major drawback is its lack of ‘band gap’ — the energy gap in the electronic structure of a material that enables to switch its conductivity on and off. Previous attempts to create such a gap in single-layer graphene have typically damaged its structure or conductivity. Through extensive calculations, the researchers have now examined the properties of single-layer graphene when sandwiched between two honeycomb boron nitride (BN) layers. They revealed that for a specific positioning of the layers, a sizable band gap can be opened and further tuned by applying an electric field without causing damage, making the sandwich structure a promising component for field-effect transistors. An electric field-enhanced transport gap is well established in a dual-gated field effect transistor (FET) based on the h-BN/single-layer graphene/h-BN sandwich structure, and the on/off current ratio is increased by a factor of 8.0 compared with pure single-layer graphene FET. The tunable and sizeable band gap and structural integrity render this sandwich structure a promising candidate for high-performance single-layer graphene FETs.

Abstract: Requirements engineering are one of the most crucial steps in software development process. Without a well-written requirements specification, developer’s do not know what to build, user’s do not know what to expect, and there is no way to validate that the created system actually meets the original needs of the user. Much of the emphasis in the recent attention for a software engineering discipline has centered on the formalization of software specifications and their flowdown to system design and verification. Undoubtedly, the incorporation of such sound, complete, and unambiguous traceability is vital to the success of any project. However, it has been our experience through years of work (on both sides) within the government and private sector military industrial establishment that many projects fail even before they reach the formal specification stage. That is because too often the developer does not truly understand or address the real requirements of the user and his environment. The purpose of this research and report is to investigate the key players and their roles along with the existing methods and obstacles in Requirements Elicitation. The article will concentrate on emphasizing key activities and methods for gathering this information, as well as offering new approaches and ideas for improving the transfer and record of this information. Our hope is that this article will become an informal policy reminder/guideline for engineers and project managers alike. The success of our products and systems are largely determined by our attention to the human dimensions of the requirements process. We hope this article will bring attention to this oft-neglected element in software development and encourage discussion about how to effectively address the issue. q 2000 Elsevier Science B.V. Abstract: In this paper, two data mining algorithms are applied to build a churn prediction model using credit card data collected from a real Chinese bank. The contribution of four variable categories: customer information, card information, risk information, and transaction activity information are examined. The paper analyzes a process of dealing with variables when data is obtained from a database instead of a survey. Instead of considering the all 135 variables into the model directly, it selects the certain variables from the perspective of not only correlation but also economic sense. In addition to the accuracy of analytic results, the paper designs a misclassification cost measurement by taking the two types error and the economic sense into account, which is more suitable to evaluate the credit card churn prediction model. The algorithms used in this study include logistic regression and decision tree which are proven mature and powerful classification algorithms. The test result shows that regression performs a little better than decision tree.

Abstract: Description: The Cystic Fibrosis (CF) Foundation developed clinical care guidelines for the prevention of Pseudomonas aeruginosa infection, the treatment of initial P. aeruginosa infection, and the use of bronchoscopy to obtain routine airway cultures in individuals with CF.Methods: A multidisciplinary committee developed questions about the prevention and treatment of initial P. aeruginosa infection and the use of bronchoscopy to obtain routine airway cultures. The outcome measure of interest was cultures without P. aeruginosa growth. Systematic reviews of PubMed, EMBASE, and the Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials were conducted in May 2012 and August 2013. Searches combined controlled vocabulary terms and text words for CF and terms relevant to each question.
