TL;DR: In this article, the authors assess how customer value affects a firm's market orientation and consequently, competitive advantage and organizational performance in a service industry, and they find that if a firm perceives its customers as valuing service, the firm is more likely to adopt both a customer and a competitor orientation; if the firm thinks its customers are price sensitive, it tends to develop a competitive orientation.

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors employ meta-analytic techniques to compare authentic and transformational leadership theories using 100 independent samples and 25,452 individuals, finding that neither AL nor transformational Leadership add noticeable incremental validity beyond the other construct.
Abstract: While authentic leadership (AL) has seen a dramatic increase in scholarly attention over the last decade, its contribution relative to more established leadership constructs merits investigation. We employ meta-analytic techniques to compare AL and transformational leadership theories using 100 independent samples and 25,452 individuals. The findings reveal that (1) the relationship between authentic and transformational leadership is large in magnitude, suggesting construct redundancy (ρ = .72); (2) neither AL nor transformational leadership add noticeable incremental validity beyond the other construct; (3) AL has a lower relative weight than transformational leadership for the outcomes of follower satisfaction, follower satisfaction with the leader, task performance, and leader effectiveness; and (4) AL demonstrates dominance over transformational leadership when predicting group or organization performance and organizational citizenship behaviors. We recommend future research examine AL at the component level and its relationships with related ethical constructs to potentially differentiate it from transformational leadership.

TL;DR: In this article, the authors measure the economic value of this "realized" volatility approach in the context of investment decisions and show that the value of switching from daily to intradaily returns to estimate the conditional covariance matix can be substantial.
Abstract: Recent work suggests that intradaily returns can be used to construct estimates of daily return volatility that are more precise than those constructed using daily returns. We measure the economic value of this "realized" volatility approach in the context of investment decisions. Our results indicate that the value of switching from daily to intradaily returns to estimate the conditional covariance matix can be substantial. We estimate that a risk-averse investor would be willing to pay 50 to 200 basis points per year to capture the observed gains in portfolio performance. Moreover, these gains are robust to transaction costs, estimation risk regarding expected returns, and the performance measurement horizon.

TL;DR: In the East Pacific Rise, small offsets of the rise axis are often boundaries between petrologically distinct magmatic units which must be supplied independently from beneath the ocean crust as mentioned in this paper.
Abstract: Lavas from the fast-spreading East Pacific Rise are geochemically diverse even within a single tectonically defined spreading cell. Within such spreading cells, small offsets of the rise axis are often boundaries between petrologically distinct magmatic units which must be supplied independently from beneath the ocean crust. Volcanics erupted near the small offsets can have chemical characteristics similar to those previously found near transform faults.

TL;DR: In this article, the authors report the presence of PFECAs in the Cape Fear River watershed, their fate in water treatment processes, and their adsorbability on powdered activated carbon (PAC).
Abstract: Long-chain per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFASs) are being replaced by short-chain PFASs and fluorinated alternatives. For ten legacy PFASs and seven recently discovered perfluoroalkyl ether carboxylic acids (PFECAs), we report (1) their occurrence in the Cape Fear River (CFR) watershed, (2) their fate in water treatment processes, and (3) their adsorbability on powdered activated carbon (PAC). In the headwater region of the CFR basin, PFECAs were not detected in raw water of a drinking water treatment plant (DWTP), but concentrations of legacy PFASs were high. The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s lifetime health advisory level (70 ng/L) for perfluorooctanesulfonic acid and perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA) was exceeded on 57 of 127 sampling days. In raw water of a DWTP downstream of a PFAS manufacturer, the mean concentration of perfluoro-2-propoxypropanoic acid (PFPrOPrA), a replacement for PFOA, was 631 ng/L (n = 37). Six other PFECAs were detected, with three exhibiting chromatographic peak ar...
