TL;DR: Weight-specific rates and energy equivalents of C, FU, A, R and P were significantly influenced by temperature, and in general, showed inverse exponential relationships with body weight.
Abstract: Rates and energy equivalents of consumption (C), egestion + excretion (FU), assimilation (A), respiration (R) and production (P) were measured in two groups of Sceloporus olivaceus: (1) a laboratory group acclimated at five seasonally encountered temperatures (150, 200, 250, 30? and 350C); and (2) four acclimatization groups collected at different seasons when ambient temperatures corresponded to 150, 20?, 250 and 30'C. Weight-specific rates and energy equivalents of C, FU, A, R and P were significantly influenced by temperature, and in general, showed inverse exponential relationships with body weight. Although there were no significant differences in R between d d and nongravid 9 9, gravid 9 9 had rates that were 17.4% higher. Weight-specific rates of C, FU, A, R, and P were adjusted for patterns of metabolic compensation to seasonally encountered ambient temperatures, body temperatures, weather conditions, and number of hours lizards were active during the year, and were used to calculate the annual energy budget of a typical 16.49-g, 1-yr-old lizard: C = 262.3 kcal (1,098 kJ), FU = 43.3 kcal (181.2 kJ), A = 218.0 kcal (912.5 kJ), R = 98.5 kcal (412.3 kJ), and P = 119.5 kcal (500.2 kJ). The annual appor- tionment of A between R and P was also calculated by assuming that rates of active lizards are 2, 2.5 and 3X their laboratory metabolic rates.

TL;DR: This article investigated the relationship between teachers' levels of Inferred Self Concept (ISC) and the cognitive growth of their students and found that the levels of ISC were related positively to the students' cognitive growth at the.01 level of significance for four of the five subtests and the total gain.
Abstract: This study investigated the relationship between teachers’ levels of Inferred Self Concept (ISC) and the cognitive growth of their students. One hundred twenty third grade students were matched for sex and IQ, and their cognitive growth was determined by pre and post testing with the Word Meaning, Paragraph Meaning, Spelling, Word Study Skills, and Language sub tests of the Stanford Achievement Test. The six teachers levels of ISC were determined by three raters who completed Parker’s Self Concept Checklist after observing each teacher for one hour. The levels of ISC were related positively to the students’ cognitive growth at the .01 level of significance for four of the five subtests and the total gain.

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors determine the relationships among perceived contingency of parental reinforcements, parent-child relations, and locus of control, 100 university students (53 females and 47 males) completed questionnaires.
Abstract: To determine the relationships among perceived contingency of parental reinforcements, parent-child relations, and locus of control, 100 university students (53 females and 47 males) completed questionnaires. In general, subjects with an internal orientation perceived their parents as contingently punishing. This finding holds most clearly for males and fathers. No relationships between perceived contingency of parental rewards and locus of control were found. Also, little evidence of a relationship between perceived parent-child relations and locus of control was obtained. Parents perceived as contingently punishing were also perceived as loving while parents perceived as noncontingently punishing were seen as rejecting. Many other significant relationships between parent-child relations measures and perceived contingency of parental reinforcement measures were obtained. These relationships differed by sex and parent. The contingency and locus of control results were discussed in terms of Seligman, Maier...

TL;DR: In this paper, the direct curve fit of Shubnikov-de-Haas theory to experimental magnetoconductivity oscillations was used to determine the effective $g$-factor values for magnetic resonance.
Abstract: Effective $g$-factor values for $n\ensuremath{-}\mathrm{I}\mathrm{n}\mathrm{S}\mathrm{b}$ have been determined by a new method, the direct curve fit of Shubnikov-de Haas theory to experimental magnetoconductivity oscillations. The fits were made with unsplit data, data with no well-defined double peaks. The values obtained show better agreement with electron-spin-resonance values than do values obtained by previous Shubnikov-de Haas methods. The fitting procedure allows the $g$ factors to be determined for high-concentration samples where electron-spin-resonance experiments fail.

TL;DR: Hourly drift samples were collected once each month over a 24 hour period for 10 months at the mouth of a channel returning heated coolant water from a steam electric generating station to a 330 ha reservoir.
Abstract: Hourly drift samples were collected once each month over a 24 hour period for 10 months at the mouth of a channel returning heated coolant water from a steam electric generating station to a 330 ha reservoir Most benthic macroinvertebrates existed at lower densities on the bottom of the channel than in the reservoir No organisms were found in the channel during summer months when water temperatures reached 422°C The most abundant organisms drifting from the channel were Chaoborus larvae which probably were drawn from the reservoir, through the condensors of the power plant, and down the effluent channel The maixmum drift rate for Chaoborus larvae occured in August (891 × 104 mg/day) while the minimum rate occurred in December (392 × 102 mg/day) Chaoborus larvae exhibited a diurnal periodicity in drift corresponding to their nightly emergence from bottom sediments in the reservoir

TL;DR: In this article, the K-shell x-ray production cross sections for thin targets of selected elements Ti to Sb have been measured for $sup 7$Li ions in energy steps of 0.2 MeV/amu.
Abstract: K-shell x-ray production cross sections for thin targets of selected elements Ti to Sb have been measured for $sup 7$Li ions in energy steps of 0.2 MeV/amu in the range from 1.0 to 5.0 MeV/amu. Comparisons of the cross-section data for the ligher elements (Z$sub 2$less than or equal to28) to the plane-wave Born approximation (PWBA) and the PWBA corrected for binding energy and Coulomb deflection show that the data are best represented at the lower energies by the corrected PWBA and approach the PWBA at the higher energies. When approximate relativistic corrections are made to the theories for the heavier elements studied, the same general trend is observed. Calculation of the ratio R=sigma (Z$sub 1$)/Z$sub 1$$sup 2$sigma (Z$sub 1$=1) supports the inclusion of binding- energy and Coulomb deflection corrections to the PWBA at the lower ion energies. The corrections to the PWBA, while improving the fit to the data, underestimate the cross sections by 10--100% in all cases. The K$beta$/K$alpha$ ratios are found to be in good agreement with theoretical estimates assuming single-hole ionization.

TL;DR: Electrophoretic patterns of 13 proteins encoded by 15 genetic loci were examined from chromosomally distinct populations representing two karyotypic forms of Peromyscus truei and the monomorphic species, and divergence time for members of both species groups is calculated and indicates the two groups diverged during the Illinoian glaciation about 240,000 years B.P.
Abstract: 1. 1. Electrophoretic patterns of 13 proteins encoded by 15 genetic loci were examined from chromosomally distinct populations representing two karyotypic forms of Peromyscus truei, two karyotypic forms of P. difficilis, three karyotypic forms of P. boylei, and the monomorphic species,P. pectoralis, P. polius, and P. attwateri. 2. 2. Analysis of electrophoretic data would indicate karyotypic forms within P. truei and P. difficilis represent separate gene pools, while karyotypically differing populations in P. boylei are members of a common gene pool. 3. 3. A phylogeny of the boylei group and the truei group is presented utilizing Rogers' coefficient of genetic similarity. In addition, divergence time for members of both species groups is calculated and indicates the two groups diverged during the Illinoian glaciation about 240,000 years B.P., with evolution of chromosomal types occurring during the Wisconsin glacial.

TL;DR: The results of the study led to the conclusion that during a fifteen-week period play therapy effects statistically significant change in social adjustment, but not in personal adjustment, self-concept, or behavior as perceived by others as discussed by the authors.
Abstract: This study was designed to determine the effects of play therapy on the adjustment of children identified as socially and psychologically maladjusted. The effects of play therapy on six variables were investigated. Those variables were: social adjustment, personal adjustment, self-concept, school-related self-concept, behavioral maturity as rated by the teacher, and inferred self-concept as rated by the parent. The general nature of the research hypotheses was that play therapy would effect positive change in the children on the six variables. The results of the study led to the conclusion that during a fifteen-week period play therapy effects statistically significant change in social adjustment, but not in personal adjustment, self-concept, or behavior as perceived by others. Implications of the study based on observations of the experimenter were that all changes made during the therapy process were not reflected by the tests which were available. It was recommended that further research on the effects of play therapy place special emphasis on the selection or development of instruments to measure changes made during therapy.

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors reported a ninefold increase in 16α-hydroxylase activity over a 24-hour period following the addition of 17β-estradiol as an inducing agent.
Abstract: Lymphocytes grown for 72 hr in the presence of mitogenic agents exhibited a nine-fold increase in 16α-hydroxylase activity over a 24-hr period following the addition of 17β-estradiol as an inducing agent. The major metabolite of 17β-estradiol produced by induced lymphocytes showed a chromatographic mobility indistinguishable from that of estriol. Enzymatic activity increased linearly with cell numbers, was inhibited by CO, and exhibited no induced increase in the presence of cycloheximide. A population survey indicated about 68% of a randomly selected Caucasian group to be essentially uninducible for 16α-hydroxylase.

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors investigated whether a structured discussion group on feelings and play group counseling can be effective as an intervention approach in working with disadvantaged primary grade children who are exhibiting disruptive classroom behavior.
Abstract: This research study was developed to investigate whether a structured discussion group on feelings)in combination with play group counseling can be effective as an intervention approach in working with disadvantaged primary grade children who are exhibiting disruptive classroom behavior. The general nature of the research hypotheses was that developmental play group counseling would not only reduce disruptive behavior of disadvantaged second grade students, but would also help to enhance these students' self concepts and attitudes toward school. None of the six hypotheses were confirmed. Developmental play group counseling did not significantly reduce "classroom disturbance" behavior, improve perceived self image, or improve attitude toward school over periods of time. The data indicated that play group counseling did significantly reduce "classroom disturbance" behavior after seven weeks of treatment, and maintained that general level of improvement eight weeks after the end of the study. The above finding suggested that play group counseling be utilized with disadvantaged early primary grade children who present behavior problems in school.
