TL;DR: The Long-Baseline Neutrino Experiment (LBNE) as mentioned in this paper is an extensively developed plan for a world-class experiment dedicated to addressing the early evolution of our universe, its current state and its eventual fate.
Abstract: The preponderance of matter over antimatter in the early Universe, the dynamics of the supernova bursts that produced the heavy elements necessary for life and whether protons eventually decay --- these mysteries at the forefront of particle physics and astrophysics are key to understanding the early evolution of our Universe, its current state and its eventual fate. The Long-Baseline Neutrino Experiment (LBNE) represents an extensively developed plan for a world-class experiment dedicated to addressing these questions. LBNE is conceived around three central components: (1) a new, high-intensity neutrino source generated from a megawatt-class proton accelerator at Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory, (2) a near neutrino detector just downstream of the source, and (3) a massive liquid argon time-projection chamber deployed as a far detector deep underground at the Sanford Underground Research Facility. This facility, located at the site of the former Homestake Mine in Lead, South Dakota, is approximately 1,300 km from the neutrino source at Fermilab -- a distance (baseline) that delivers optimal sensitivity to neutrino charge-parity symmetry violation and mass ordering effects. This ambitious yet cost-effective design incorporates scalability and flexibility and can accommodate a variety of upgrades and contributions. With its exceptional combination of experimental configuration, technical capabilities, and potential for transformative discoveries, LBNE promises to be a vital facility for the field of particle physics worldwide, providing physicists from around the globe with opportunities to collaborate in a twenty to thirty year program of exciting science. In this document we provide a comprehensive overview of LBNE's scientific objectives, its place in the landscape of neutrino physics worldwide, the technologies it will incorporate and the capabilities it will possess.

TL;DR: It is shown that amoeboid tumor cells export large vesicles that contain metalloproteinases, RNA, caveolin-1, and the GTPase ADP-ribosylation factor 6, and are biologically active toward tumor cells, endothelial cells, and fibroblasts, and suggest a mechanism by which migrating tumor cells condition the tumor microenvironment and distant sites, thereby potentiating advanced disease.
Abstract: Oncosomes are tumor-derived microvesicles that transmit signaling complexes between cell and tissue compartments. Herein, we show that amoeboid tumor cells export large (1- to 10-μm diameter) vesicles, derived from bulky cellular protrusions, that contain metalloproteinases, RNA, caveolin-1, and the GTPase ADP-ribosylation factor 6, and are biologically active toward tumor cells, endothelial cells, and fibroblasts. We describe methods by which large oncosomes can be selectively sorted by flow cytometry and analyzed independently of vesicles <1 μm. Structures resembling large oncosomes were identified in the circulation of different mouse models of prostate cancer, and their abundance correlated with tumor progression. Similar large vesicles were also identified in human tumor tissues, but they were not detected in the benign compartment. They were more abundant in metastases. Our results suggest that tumor microvesicles substantially larger than exosome-sized particles can be visualized and quantified in tissues and in the circulation, and isolated and characterized using clinically adaptable methods. These findings also suggest a mechanism by which migrating tumor cells condition the tumor microenvironment and distant sites, thereby potentiating advanced disease.

TL;DR: For instance, this article found that adolescent girls are more likely to discuss politics with friends and to intend to participate in politics as adults, and adult women were more likely than adolescents to discuss and participate in political activity.
Abstract: One argument advanced in favor of descriptive representation is that female politicians serve as role models, inspiring other women to political activity. While previous research finds female role models affect women's psychological engagement, few studies report an impact on women's active participation, and none have done so in cross-national research. Our work also is the first to consider whether the impact of female role models is, as the term implies, greater among the young. Using three cross-national datasets, we find that where there are more female members of parliament (MPs), adolescent girls are more likely to discuss politics with friends and to intend to participate in politics as adults, and adult women are more likely to discuss and participate in politics. The presence of female MPs registers the same effect on political discussion regardless of age, but the impact on women's political activity is far greater among the young than the old.

TL;DR: In this article, the role of CdSe-sensitized, 1D rutile TiO 2 architecture in the solar cell design is discussed, where the deposition of cdSe onto TiO2 nanorod array is carried out to extend absorption into visible light region.
Abstract: One-dimensional (1D) nanostructures of TiO 2 are grown directly on transparent, conductive glass substrate using hydrothermal/solvothermal methods. When employed as a photoanode in photoelectrochemical cells, the vertically aligned TiO 2 nanorod array exhibits slower charge recombination at electrolyte interface as compared to mesoscopic TiO 2 particulate film. Electrochemical deposition of CdSe onto TiO 2 nanorod array is carried out to extend absorption into visible light region. The role of CdSe-sensitized, 1D rutile TiO 2 architecture in the solar cell design is discussed.
