Abstract: The phrase “fast fashion” refers to low-cost clothing collections that mimic current luxury fashion trends. Fast fashion helps sate deeply held desires among young consumers in the industrialized world for luxury fashion, even as it embodies unsustainability. Trends run their course with lightning speed, with today's latest styles swiftly trumping yesterday's, which have already been consigned to the trash bin. This article addresses the inherent dissonance among fast fashion consumers, who often share a concern for environmental issues even as they indulge in consumer patterns antithetical to ecological best practices. Seemingly adept at compartmentalism, and free of conflicted guilt, such consumers see no contradiction in their Janus-faced desires. Abstract: From data in the literature on relative rates of copolymerization it has been possible to evaluate two constants, Q and e, characteristic of an individual monomer, which appear to account satisfactorily for its behavior in copolymerization. The constant Q describes the “general monomer reactivity” and is apparently related to possibilities for stabilization in a radical adduct. The constant e takes account of polar factors influencing copolymerization.

Abstract: CdSe and CdTe nanocrystals are linked to nanostructured TiO2 films using 3-mercaptopropionic acid as a linker molecule for establishing the mechanistic aspects of interfacial charge transfer processes. Both these quantum dots are energetically capable of sensitizing TiO2 films and generating photocurrents in quantum dot solar cells. These two semiconductor nanocrystals exhibit markedly different external quantum efficiencies (∼70% for CdSe and ∼0.1% for CdTe at 555 nm). Although CdTe with a more favorable conduction band energy (ECB = −1.0 V vs NHE) is capable of injecting electrons into TiO2 faster than CdSe (ECB = −0.6 V vs NHE), hole scavenging by a sulfide redox couple remains a major bottleneck. The sulfide ions dissolved in aqueous solutions are capable of scavenging photogenerated holes in photoirradiated CdSe system but not in CdTe.
