TL;DR: In this article, the authors used GaAs quantum dots integrated on a patterned piezoelectric actuator capable of suppressing the exciton fine structure splitting to achieve nearly maximally entangled photon pairs from semiconductor quantum dots without resorting to postselection techniques.
Abstract: We report on the observation of nearly maximally entangled photon pairs from semiconductor quantum dots, without resorting to postselection techniques. We use GaAs quantum dots integrated on a patterned piezoelectric actuator capable of suppressing the exciton fine structure splitting. By using a resonant two-photon excitation, we coherently drive the biexciton state and demonstrate experimentally that our device generates polarization-entangled photons with a fidelity of 0.978(5) and a concurrence of 0.97(1) taking into account the nonidealities stemming from the experimental setup. By combining fine-structure-dependent fidelity measurements and a theoretical model, we identify an exciton spin-scattering process as a possible residual decoherence mechanism. We suggest that this imperfection may be overcome using a modest Purcell enhancement so as to achieve fidelities >0.99, thus making quantum dots evenly matched with the best probabilistic entangled photon sources.

TL;DR: In this article, a search for new physics was performed based on events with jets and a pair of isolated, same-sign leptons, and the results were obtained using a sample of proton-proton collision data collected by the CMS experiment at a centre-of-mass energy of 8 TeV at the LHC, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 19.5 fb−1.
Abstract: A search for new physics is performed based on events with jets and a pair of isolated, same-sign leptons. The results are obtained using a sample of proton-proton collision data collected by the CMS experiment at a centre-of-mass energy of 8 TeV at the LHC, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 19.5 fb−1. In order to be sensitive to a wide variety of possible signals beyond the standard model, multiple search regions defined by the missing transverse energy, the hadronic energy, the number of jets and b-quark jets, and the transverse momenta of the leptons in the events are considered. No excess above the standard model background expectation is observed and constraints are set on a number of models for new physics, as well as on the same-sign top-quark pair and quadruple-top-quark production cross sections. Information on event selection efficiencies is also provided, so that the results can be used to confront an even broader class of new physics models.

TL;DR: In this paper, a stochastic output distance function (R.W. Shephard, Theory of Cost and Production Functions, Princeton University Press, Princeton, NJ) is employed to accommodate multiple output technology.
Abstract: The aim of this paper is to test the temporal variation of technical efficiency of Spanish savings banks during the period 1985–1998. Furthermore, we test whether merged and non-merged firms have different levels and temporal patterns of technical efficiency. A stochastic output distance function (R.W. Shephard, Theory of Cost and Production Functions, Princeton University Press, Princeton, NJ) is employed to accommodate multiple output technology. The distance function provides the advantage that it does not need information about prices, so it can accommodate the multi-product nature of the financial sector only using the quantities as data (an important point when the assumptions about perfectly competitive markets are unlikely to be met). The temporal variation of efficiency is modeled extending the Battese and Coelli (Journal of Productivity Analysis 3 (1992) 153–169) approach in two ways: relaxing the monotonicity of the temporal variation pattern of the efficiency term, and allowing for different patterns of efficiency change between merged and non-merged firms.

TL;DR: In this article, the authors show how to classify singularities of vector fields up to codimension 4 for the notion of equivalence and show that a semianalytic stratification is not possible even for weak equivalence.
Abstract: In his well known paper `Singularities of vector fields', Takens made a topological classification of vector fields up to codimension 2 and introduced a semialgebraic stratification to distinguish the different cases; from dimensions he had to use the notion of `weak--equivalence'. In this paper we show how to classify singularities of vector fields on up to codimension 4 for the notion of equivalence. To separate the different cases we use a semianalytic stratification and show that a semialgebraic one is not possible, even for the notion of weak--equivalence. Up to codimension 3 the stratification is semialgebraic. We will always suppose that the vector fields are , although it will be clear that the results are valid for , with r sufficiently big. We provide a complete, but short, survey of the different techniques to be used, referring to the existing literature for precise calculations and pictures. We put much emphasis on the new results.
