Abstract: The electrically charged Born-Infeld black holes in the Palatini formalism for $f(R)$ theories are analyzed. Specifically we study those supported by a theory $f(R)=R\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}{R}^{2}/{R}_{P}$, where ${R}_{P}$ is Planck's curvature. These black holes only differ from their General Relativity counterparts very close to the center but may give rise to different geometrical structures in terms of inner horizons. The nature and strength of the central singularities are also significantly affected. In particular, for the model $f(R)=R\ensuremath{-}{R}^{2}/{R}_{P}$ the singularity is shifted to a finite radius, ${r}_{+}$, and the Kretschmann scalar diverges only as $1/(r\ensuremath{-}{r}_{+}{)}^{2}$.

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors examined the long-run stock market performance of German and Spanish initial public offerings (IPOs) between 1990 and 2000 and found that non-family business IPOs perform insignificantly better than family-owned businesses.
Abstract: This article examines the long-run stock market performance of German and Spanish initial public offerings (IPOs) between 1990 and 2000. We distinguish between family-and nonfamily-owned business IPOs by using the power subscale of the F-PEC. Buy-and-hold-abnormal returns (BHAR) are calculated in order to determine abnormal returns. Our results show that three years after going public, investors, on average, realized an abnormal return of −32.8% for German and −36.7% for Spanish IPOs. In both countries, nonfamily business IPOs perform insignificantly better. Regression analyses show that for the whole sample there is a positive company size effect. In family-owned businesses, strong family involvement has a positive impact on the long-run stock market performance, whereas the age of the firm has a negative influence.

TL;DR: Findings clearly identify ANXA1 as an effective differentiation marker for the histopathological grading of HNSCCs and for the detection of epithelial dysplasia.
Abstract: Annexin A1 (ANXA1) protein expression was evaluated by Western blot in a series of 32 head and neck squamous cell carcinomas (HNSCCs) in a search for molecular alterations that could serve as useful diagnostic/prognostic markers. ANXA1 down-regulation was observed in 24 cases (75%) compared with patient-matched normal epithelium. In relation to clinicopathological variables, ANXA1 down-regulation was significantly associated with advanced T stages (P = 0.029), locoregional lymph node metastases (P = 0.038), advanced disease stage (P = 0.006), hypopharyngeal localization (P = 0.038), and poor histological differentiation (P = 0.005). ANXA1 expression was also analyzed by immunohistochemistry in paraffin-embedded sections from 22 of 32 HNSCCs and 8 premalignant lesions. All dysplastic tissues showed significantly reduced ANXA1 expression compared to a strong positive signal observed in adjacent normal epithelia (except basal and suprabasal cells). A close association was observed between ANXA1 expression and the histological grade in HNSCC. Well-differentiated tumors presented a positive ANXA1 signal in highly keratinized areas whereas moderately and poorly differentiated tumors exhibited very weak or negative staining. Our findings clearly identify ANXA1 as an effective differentiation marker for the histopathological grading of HNSCCs and for the detection of epithelial dysplasia.

TL;DR: Improvements in this area indicate that glycosyltransferases involved in the biosynthesis of natural products have substrate flexibility regarding the sugar donor but also, less frequently, with respect to the aglycon acceptor, thus enabling an increase in the structural diversity ofnatural products.
