TL;DR: This work considers the multiple-depot multiple-vehicle-type scheduling problem (MDVSP) which arises in public transport bus companies and aims to assign buses to cover a given set of timetabled trips with consideration of practical requirements, such as multiple depots and vehicle types as well as depot capacities.
Abstract: We consider the multiple-depot multiple-vehicle-type scheduling problem (MDVSP) which arises in public transport bus companies and aims to assign buses to cover a given set of timetabled trips with consideration of practical requirements, such as multiple depots and vehicle types as well as depot capacities. An optimal schedule is characterized by minimal fleet size and minimal operational costs including costs for empty movements and waiting time. It is well-known that the MDVSP is NP-hard. Although progress has recently been made in solving large practical MDVSP to optimality with time-space network models, current optimization technology sets limits to the model size that can be solved. In order to approach very large practical instances we propose a two-phase method which produces close to optimal solutions. This modeling approach enables us to solve real-world problem instances with thousands of scheduled trips by direct application of standard optimization software. Furthermore, we introduce the concept of depot groups for the case that a bus may return in the evening into another depot than where it started in the morning.

TL;DR: It can be concluded that a 6‐month football training is as efficacious in improving the physical capacity, health‐related fitness parameters and self‐esteem of overweight children as a standard exercise program.
Abstract: The present study aimed at analyzing the efficacy of a 6-month football training program compared with a standard exercise program on health and fitness parameters in overweight children. The study design was a 6-month, two-arm, parallel-group randomized trial. Twenty-two overweight children were randomly assigned to two groups (age=10.8+/-1.2 years, height=1.56+/-0.08 m, weight= 65.1+/-11.4 kg). One group conducted a football training program, and the other group an established standard sports program. Both interventions took place three times per week from mid-May to mid-November. Before, after 3 months and after the training period, comprehensive testing was conducted: anthropometric characteristics, cycling ergometry, psychometric monitoring as well as several motor ability tests. Maximal performance capacity increased and submaximal heart rate during cycling ergometry decreased significantly. Several motor skills as well as self-esteem also improved considerably. Body composition and other psychometric variables remained nearly unchanged. No relevant differences were observed between both exercise programs. It can be concluded that a 6-month football training is as efficacious in improving the physical capacity, health-related fitness parameters and self-esteem of overweight children as a standard exercise program. These results provide further evidence that playing football has significant health effects.

TL;DR: A multi-echelon humanitarian logistic network that considers the location of central warehouses, managing the inventory of perishable products in the pre-disasters phase, and routing the relief vehicles in the post-disaster phase is proposed.
Abstract: Efficiency is a key success factor in complex supply chain networks. It is imperative to ensure proper flow of goods and services in humanitarian supply chains in response to a disaster. To this end, we propose a multi-echelon humanitarian logistic network that considers the location of central warehouses, managing the inventory of perishable products in the pre-disaster phase, and routing the relief vehicles in the post-disaster phase. An epsilon-constraint method, a non-dominated sorting genetic algorithm (NSGA-II), and a modified NSGA-II called reference point based non-dominated sorting genetic algorithm-II (RPBNSGA-II) are proposed to solve this mixed integer linear programming (MILP) problem. The analysis of variance (ANOVA) is used to analyze the results showing that NSGA-II performs better than the other algorithms with small size problems while RPBNSGA-II outperforms the other algorithms with large size problems.

TL;DR: In this article, the feasibility of superconductor technology for applications in communication satellites and base transceiver stations (BTSs) for terrestrial mobile communication is demonstrated in the framework of a German research program on "superconductors and ceramics for future communication technology".
Abstract: In the framework of a German research program on "superconductors and ceramics for future communication technology", efforts are undertaken to demonstrate the feasibility of cryogenic and high-temperature superconductor technology for applications in communication satellites and base transceiver stations (BTS's) for terrestrial mobile communication. For the receiver front end of C-band satellites, noise reduction filters as well as input-multiplexer channel filters have been developed. A three-channel output multiplexer was composed of dielectric hemisphere filters with elliptic response. Associated encapsulation and cooling issues for spaceborne systems were investigated and an in-orbit demonstration of the complete setup will be performed on the International Space Station. Activities toward applications in terrestrial mobile communication are focused on BTS cryogenic front ends with single preselect filters of superior selectivity, and on reconfigurable front ends allowing some electronically controlled change in the preselection frequency response. A first version of a demonstrator for a cryogenic BTS front end was developed.
