Abstract: Coherent nondispersive structures are known to play a crucial role in explaining transport in nonautonomous dynamical systems such as ocean flows. These structures are difficult to extract from model output as they are Lagrangian by nature and not revealed by the underlying Eulerian velocity fields. In the last few years heuristic concepts such as finite-time Lyapunov exponents have been used in an attempt to detect barriers to oceanic transport and thus identify regions that trap material such as nutrients and phytoplankton. In this Letter we pursue a novel, more direct approach to uncover coherent regions in the surface ocean using high-resolution model velocity data. Our method is based upon numerically constructing a transfer operator that controls the surface transport of particles over a short period. We apply our technique to the polar latitudes of the Southern Ocean.

Abstract: Rechargeable aqueous Zn-ion energy storage devices are promising candidates for next-generation energy storage technologies. However, the lack of highly reversible Zn2+-storage anode materials with low potential windows remains a primary concern. Here, we report a two-dimensional polyarylimide covalent organic framework (PI-COF) anode with high-kinetics Zn2+-storage capability. The well-organized pore channels of PI-COF allow the high accessibility of the build-in redox-active carbonyl groups and efficient ion diffusion with a low energy barrier. The constructed PI-COF anode exhibits a specific capacity (332 C g-1 or 92 mAh g-1 at 0.7 A g-1), a high rate capability (79.8% at 7 A g-1), and a long cycle life (85% over 4000 cycles). In situ Raman investigation and first-principle calculations clarify the two-step Zn2+-storage mechanism, in which imide carbonyl groups reversibly form negatively charged enolates. Dendrite-free full Zn-ion devices are fabricated by coupling PI-COF anodes with MnO2 cathodes, delivering excellent energy densities (23.9 ∼ 66.5 Wh kg-1) and supercapacitor-level power densities (133 ∼ 4782 W kg-1). This study demonstrates the feasibility of covalent organic framework as Zn2+-storage anodes and shows a promising prospect for constructing reliable aqueous energy storage devices.

Abstract: The advent of model-driven software development has put model transformations into focus. In practice, model transformations are expected to be applicable in different stages of a development process and help to consistently propagate changes between the different involved models which we refer to as model synchronization. However, most approaches do not fully support the requirements for model synchronization today and focus only on classical one-way batch-oriented transformations. In this paper, we present our approach for an incremental model transformation which supports model synchronization. Our approach employs the visual, formal, and bidirectional transformation technique of triple graph grammars. Using this declarative specification formalism, we focus on the efficient execution of the transformation rules and present our approach to achieve an incremental model transformation for synchronization purposes. We present an evaluation of our approach and demonstrate that due to the speedup for the incremental processing in the average case even larger models can be tackled.

Abstract: In this chapter we introduce grounded theory methodology and methods. In particular we clarify which research questions are appropriate for a grounded theory study and give an overview of the main techniques and procedures, such as the coding procedures, theoretical sensitivity, theoretical sampling, and theoretical saturation. We further discuss the role of theory within grounded theory and provide examples of studies in which the coding paradigm of grounded theory has been altered in order to be better suitable for applications in mathematics education. In our exposition we mainly refer to grounded theory techniques and procedures according to Strauss and Corbin (Basics of qualitative research: Grounded theory procedures and techniques, Sage Publications, Thousand Oaks, 1990), but also include other approaches in the discussion in order to point out the particularities of the approach by Strauss and Corbin.
