TL;DR: Parameters for the zinc ion have been developed in the self‐consistent charge density functional tight‐binding (SCC‐DFTB) framework and the approach was tested against B3LYP calculations for a range of systems, including small molecules that contain the typical coordination environment of zinc in biological systems.
Abstract: Parameters for the zinc ion have been developed in the self-consistent charge density functional tight-binding (SCC-DFTB) framework. The approach was tested against B3LYP calculations for a range of systems, including small molecules that contain the typical coordination environment of zinc in biological systems (cysteine, histidine, glutamic/aspartic acids, and water) and active site models for a number of enzymes such as alcohol dehydrogenase, carbonic anhydrase, and aminopeptidase. The SCC-DFTB approach reproduces structural and energetic properties rather reliably (e.g., total and relative ligand binding energies and deprotonation energies of ligands and barriers for zinc-assisted proton transfers), as compared with B3LYP/6-311+G** or MP2/6-311+G** calculations.

TL;DR: In this paper, the mechanisms of information storage and subsequent read-out are discussed, however, the present understanding of the structures and reactions of the radiation-induced point defects involved in these processes are critically discussed.
Abstract: BaFBr doped with Eu 2+ is the most successful X-ray storage phosphor used for digital radiography so far. The mechanisms of information storage and subsequent read-out are, however, not yet fully understood. The present understanding of the structures and reactions of the radiation-induced point defects involved in these processes are critically discussed. The shortcomings of X-ray storage phosphor screens based on BaFBr:Eu 2+ are the inferior spatial resolution compared to conventional X-ray films. Also reviewed are therefore alternative storage phosphors such as alkali halides doped with Eu 2+ . Ga + , In + , or Tl + or elpasolites doped with Ce 3+ or Eu + which are also promising with high figures of merit and potentially higher spatial resolution. A completely new approach is the use of suitably doped glasses and glass ceramics. First results on fluorozirconate glass ceramics with good storage and read-out properties are reviewed.

10 Oct 2004TL;DR: To disaggregate the consumption of the entire active power into its major electrical end uses, an algorithm consisting of fuzzy clustering methods, a genetic algorithm and a dynamic programming approach is presented.
Abstract: Nonintrusive appliance load monitoring systems (NIALM) require sufficient accurate total load data to separate the load into its major appliances. The most available solutions separate the whole electric energy consumption based on the measurement of all three voltages and currents. Aside from the cost for special measuring devices, the intrusion into the local installation is the main problem for reaching a high market distribution. The use of standard digital electricity meters could avoid this problem with loss of information in the measured data. This paper presents a new NIALM approach to analyse data, collected form a standard digital electricity meter. To disaggregate the consumption of the entire active power into its major electrical end uses, an algorithm consisting of fuzzy clustering methods, a genetic algorithm and a dynamic programming approach is presented.

01 Jan 1990TL;DR: In this article, the authors review results on embedding network and program structures into popular parallel computer architectures and present a high level description of efficient methods to simulate an algorithm designed for one type of parallel machine on a different network structure and/or techniques to distribute data/program variables to achieve optimum use of all available processors.
Abstract: Embedding one Interconnection Network in Another. We review results on embedding network and program structures into popular parallel computer architectures. Such embeddings can be viewed as high level descriptions of efficient methods to simulate an algorithm designed for one type of parallel machine on a different network structure and/or techniques to distribute data/program variables to achieve optimum use of all available processors.
