25 Mar 2012TL;DR: This paper experimentally proves the feasibility of the wireless MAC processor concept over ultra-cheap commodity WLAN hardware cards by reflash the firmware of the commercial Broadcom AirForce54G off-the-shelf chipset, replacing its 802.11 WLAN MAC protocol implementation with the proposed extended state machine execution engine.
Abstract: Programmable wireless platforms aim at responding to the quest for wireless access flexibility and adaptability. This paper introduces the notion of wireless MAC processors. Instead of implementing a specific MAC protocol stack, Wireless MAC processors do support a set of Medium Access Control “commands” which can be run-time composed (programmed) through software-defined state machines, thus providing the desired MAC protocol operation. We clearly distinguish from related work in this area as, unlike other works which rely on dedicated DSPs or programmable hardware platforms, we experimentally prove the feasibility of the wireless MAC processor concept over ultra-cheap commodity WLAN hardware cards. Specifically, we reflash the firmware of the commercial Broadcom AirForce54G off-the-shelf chipset, replacing its 802.11 WLAN MAC protocol implementation with our proposed extended state machine execution engine. We prove the flexibility of the proposed approach through three use-case implementation examples.

TL;DR: In this paper, an approach for predicting local scour downstream of grade control structures is described, which applies the incomplete self-similarity (ISS) theory for deducing some physically based dimensionless groups controlling the geometrical pattern of the scour profile.
Abstract: This paper describes an approach for predicting local scour downstream of grade control structures. The developed analysis applies the incomplete self-similarity (ISS) theory for deducing some physically based dimensionless groups controlling the geometrical pattern of the scour profile. The scour measurements available in the literature in conjunction with numerous unpublished data allow a multiregressive calibration of the ISS relationships. The experimental sample includes different bed grain-size distributions and scales of the erosive phenomenon. The results prove that the ratio between the upstream water head and the weir height is able to explain the measurements of scour depth carried out in both small- and large-scale installations. This estimation of maximum scour depth was improved, introducing variables representative of both the jet contraction and the bed particle grain-size distribution. Variables related to the longitudinal sizes of the scour profile tend to be predicted with more accuracy than those related to the scour depth and appear more influenced by the coarsest component of the alluvial bed.

TL;DR: Current evidences show similar quality of life profile between oral and intravenous treatments, although anticancer oral therapy seems to be more convenient in terms of administration and reduced time lost for work or other activities.

TL;DR: In this article, the authors present a theoretical framework to tackle quantum non-Markovian dynamics based on a microscopic collision model (CM), where the bath consists of a large collection of initially uncorrelated ancillas.
Abstract: We present a theoretical framework to tackle quantum non-Markovian dynamics based on a microscopic collision model (CM), where the bath consists of a large collection of initially uncorrelated ancillas. Unlike standard memoryless CMs, we endow the bath with memory by introducing interancillary collisions between next system-ancilla interactions. Our model interpolates between a fully Markovian dynamics and the continuous interaction of the system with a single ancilla, i.e., a strongly non-Markovian process. We show that in the continuous limit one can derive a general master equation, which, while keeping such features, is guaranteed to describe an unconditionally completely positive and trace-preserving dynamics. We apply our theory to an atom in a dissipative cavity for a Lorentzian spectral density of bath modes, a dynamics which can be exactly solved. The predicted evolution shows a significant improvement in approaching the exact solution with respect to two well-known memory-kernel master equations.

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors studied the existence of nontrivial solutions for the boundary value problem, where λ is a real parameter and Δ is the relative Laplace-Beltrami operator.
Abstract: In this paper we study the existence of nontrivial solutions for the boundary value problem { − Δ u − λ u − u | u | 2 ⁎ − 2 = 0 in Ω u = 0 on ∂ Ω when Ω⊂Rn is a bounded domain, n ⩾ 3, 2 ⁎ = 2 n ( n − 2 ) is the critical exponent for the Sobolev embedding H 0 1 ( Ω ) ⊂ L p ( Ω ) , λ is a real parameter. We prove that there is bifurcation from any eigenvalue λj of − Δ and we give an estimate of the left neighbourhoods ] λ j ⁎ , λj] of λj, j∈N, in which the bifurcation branch can be extended. Moreover we prove that, if λ ∈ ] λ j ⁎ , λj[, the number of nontrivial solutions is at least twice the multiplicity of λj. The same kind of results holds also when Ω is a compact Riemannian manifold of dimension n ⩾ 3, without boundary and Δ is the relative Laplace-Beltrami operator.
