TL;DR: Under the conditions considered for the simulation it is observed that the fuzzy logic based control system is capable of controlling the vehicle within a larger area than that of the neural networkbased control system.
Abstract: Today, computer control systems have achieved a highest position of their applicability through large scale industries to smaller activities such as controlling a movement of an object. Especially many researches are being carried out to develop control systems to automate the movements of vehicles as it is performed by a human being. This paper presents control systems to control the backing up motion of a truck and trailer vehicle into a particular location such as a loading dock. Salient feature of these systems is that it can be applied to any vehicle system which has a trailer attached to it. Two separate control systems are used to achieve the desired goal. In the first approach, the system uses fuzzy logic while the second approach uses an artificial neural network for the same purpose. The proposed controllers are tested for different initial positions and orientations of the truck and the trailer using a simulation model implemented with the MATLAB tool boxes. Comparisons of the results obtained are also presented. Under the conditions considered for the simulation it is observed that the fuzzy logic based control system is capable of controlling the vehicle within a larger area than that of the neural network based control system.

TL;DR: The energy ladder hypothesis holds for Sri Lanka and the country as a whole is moving towards modern fuels such as liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) and electricity as discussed by the authors, and the pattern of household energy consumption among urban, rural and estate sectors, over time and across income groups in Sri Lanka.
Abstract: This study examines the pattern of household energy consumption among urban, rural and estate sectors, over time and across income groups in Sri Lanka. The ‘energy ladder' hypothesis was tested and Engle functions were estimated using Consumer Finances and Socio Economic Survey data from 1978/79 to 2003/04. Results reveal that the energy ladder hypothesis holds for Sri Lanka and the country as a whole is moving towards modern fuels such as liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) and electricity. The urban sector proceeds much faster than the rural sector. Engle functions estimated for individual fuels and for different sectors reveal that the budget elasticity values were negative for firewood and kerosene, in the urban and estate sectors, indicating that they are inferior goods. LPG and electricity had positive budget elasticities indicating that they are normal goods. Budget elasticities estimated for the estate sector were insignificant eliciting that factors other than income influence the fuel consumption decisions. TL;DR: This first authenticated case of life-threatening acute renal failure and haemostatic disturbances caused by H. hypnale, a species responsible for 27% of snake bites in Sri Lanka, demonstrates the need for a new antivenom with specific activity against the venom of this species.
Abstract: A five years old boy was bitten by a Merrem's hump-nosed viper (Hypnale hypnale) in Central Province, Sri Lanka. He developed local swelling, incoagulable blood, thrombocytopenia, bleeding into the gastrointestinal tract, and acute renal failure. Treatment with Serum Institute of Indian polyspecific antivenom (specific for venoms of cobra, common krait, Russell's viper and saw-scaled viper) had no effect on the coagulopathy, which persisted for more than a week. The boy recovered after 27 d in hospital, during which he was treated with peritoneal dialysis for renal failure. Laboratory studies demonstrated that the venom of H. hypnale was procoagulant, fibrinolytic and aggregated platelets. This first authenticated case of life-threatening acute renal failure and haemostatic disturbances caused by H. hypnale, a species responsible for 27% of snake bites in Sri Lanka, demonstrates the need for a new antivenom with specific activity against the venom of this species.
