TL;DR: In this paper, a transient deterministic shallow landslide model is proposed to assess the pore-pressure response to rainfall infiltration with an infinite-slope stability calculation, which can be displayed or manipulated in a grid-based GIS.

TL;DR: Fermi Large Area Telescope data is searched for pulsations from all known millisecond pulsars outside of stellar clusters, finding gamma-ray pulsations for eight of them, suggesting that they share the same basic emission mechanism with standard gamma-Ray pulsars.
Abstract: Pulsars are born with subsecond spin periods and slow by electromagnetic braking for several tens of millions of years, when detectable radiation ceases. A second life can occur for neutron stars in binary systems. They can acquire mass and angular momentum from their companions, to be spun up to millisecond periods and begin radiating again. We searched Fermi Large Area Telescope data for pulsations from all known millisecond pulsars (MSPs) outside of globular clusters, using rotation parameters from radio telescopes. Strong gamma-ray pulsations were detected for eight MSPs. The gamma-ray pulse profiles and spectral properties resemble those of young gamma-ray pulsars. The basic emission mechanism seems to be the same for MSPs and young pulsars, with the emission originating in regions far from the neutron star surface.

TL;DR: It is demonstrated that NO is involved in macrophage killing of C. albicans and support the notion that regulation of Th1 effector function by IL‐4 and IL‐10 might involve modulation of NO synthesis.
Abstract: Mouse peritoneal and splenic macrophages treated with interferon-gamma (IFN-gamma) and infected with the yeast Candida albicans expressed high fungicidal activity in vitro that correlated with increased nitrite concentrations in culture supernatants. Both effects were reduced by an inhibitor of nitric oxide (NO) synthesis which, in vivo, impaired the animals' ability to mount a footpad reaction and clear the fungus from infected organs. Because T helper type-2 (Th2) cytokines in candidiasis are known to limit the expression of protective Th1 functions, we tested the effect of interleukin (IL)-4 and IL-10 on candidacidal activity and NO production of IFN-gamma-activated macrophages. Fungal killing and NO secretion were inhibited, in a dose-dependent manner, by the two cytokines either separately or in combination. Impaired candidacidal activity was also demonstrable in the presence of monoiodoacetic acid, an inhibitor of phagocytosis. These data demonstrate that NO is involved in macrophage killing of C. albicans and support the notion that regulation of Th1 effector function by IL-4 and IL-10 might involve modulation of NO synthesis.

TL;DR: Acoustical sustainable materials, either natural or made from recycled materials, are quite often a valid alternative to traditional synthetic materials, though a proper analysis of their sustainability, through Life Cycle Assessment procedures, has to be carried out.
Abstract: Acoustical sustainable materials, either natural or made from recycled materials, are quite often a valid alternative to traditional synthetic materials. The production of these materials generally has a lower environmental impact than conventional ones, though a proper analysis of their sustainability, through Life Cycle Assessment procedures, has to be carried out.Airborne sound insulation of natural materials such as flax or of recycled cellulose fibres is similar to the one of rock or glass wool. Many natural materials (bamboo, kenaf, coco fibres) show good sound absorbing performances; cork or recycled rubber layers can be very effective for impact sound insulation. These materials also show good thermal insulation properties, are often light and they are not harmful for human health. Furthermore, many of these materials are currently available on the market at competitive prices. There is however a need to complete their characterization, both from an experimental and a theoretical point of view, and...

TL;DR: Both intracellular and extracellular roles have been proposed for S-100 protein, which has been reported to regulate protein phosphorylation, ATPase, adenylate cyclase, and aldolase activities and Ca(2+)-induced Ca2+ release in cells and cytoskeletal systems.
