TL;DR: This White Paper has been broken down into eleven sections, each of which has been put together by academics and industrial researchers who are both experts in their fields and where willing to volunteer their time and effort to put together this White Paper.
Abstract: Cluster computing is not a new area of computing. It is, however, evident that there is a growing interest in its usage in all areas where applications have traditionally used parallel or distributed computing platforms. The growing interest has been fuelled in part by the availability of powerful microprocessors and high-speed networks as off-the-shelf commodity components as well as in part by the rapidly maturing software components available to support high performance and high availability applications. This White Paper has been broken down into eleven sections, each of which has been put together by academics and industrial researchers who are both experts in their fields and where willing to volunteer their time and effort to put together this White Paper. The status of this paper is draft and we are at the stage of publicizing its presence and making a Request For Comments (RFC).

TL;DR: The original theory and concepts in conventional ES were reviewed and a knowledge engineering framework for developing them was revisited, and the benefits and challenges are discussed by comparing them with traditional standalone systems from development and application perspectives.

TL;DR: It is suggested that the current model of viewing theory as informing and controlling practice should give way to a mutually enhancing model in which theory is derived from practice, and in turn influences future practice.
Abstract: Summary •Despite the efforts of nursing theorists, educationalists and practitioners, the theory-practice gap continues to defy resolution. This paper argues that only by reconsidering the relation between theory and practice can the gap be closed. •Drawing upon ideas from teaching and other practice-based disciplines, including nursing, the article suggests that the current model of viewing theory as informing and controlling practice should give way to a mutually enhancing model in which theory is derived from practice, and in turn influences future practice. •This coming together of theory and practice is referred to as nursing praxis, and suggests that informal theory should be unique to each individual encounter with each patient. •The clinical nurse is thus not only a practitioner, but a theorist and researcher, who responds to patients not according to some grand, inflexible theory, but by the process of reflection-in-action, drawing upon their expertise and a repertoire of past experiences and encounters.

TL;DR: It is concluded that spinosaurs had semiaquatic lifestyles, i.e., they spent a large part of their daily time in water, like extant crocodilians or hippopotamuses, and sheds light on niche partitioning between large predatory dinosaurs.
Abstract: Spinosaurs were large theropod dinosaurs showing peculiar specializations, including somewhat crocodile-like elongate jaws and conical teeth. Their biology has been much discussed, and a piscivorous diet has been suggested on the basis of jaw as well as tooth morphology and stomach contents. Although fish eating has been considered plausible, an aquatic or semiaquatic lifestyle has seldom been suggested because of the apparent lack of corresponding adaptations in the postcranial skeleton of spinosaurs, which on the whole is reminiscent of that of other large terrestrial theropods. On the basis of the oxygen isotopic composition of their phosphatic remains compared with those of coexisting terrestrial theropod dinosaurs and semiaquatic crocodilians and turtles, we conclude that spinosaurs had semiaquatic lifestyles, i.e., they spent a large part of their daily time in water, like extant crocodilians or hippopotamuses. This result sheds light on niche partitioning between large predatory dinosaurs, since spinosaurs coexisted with other large theropods such as carcharodontosaurids or tyrannosaurids. The likely ichthyophagy and aquatic habits of spinosaurids may have allowed them to coexist with other large theropods by reducing competition for food and territory.

TL;DR: A way to calibrate the membership functions with comparisons given by the decision-maker on alternatives with known measures is proposed and is illustrated in a study measuring the most important factors in selecting a student current account.
Abstract: Fuzzy AHP is a hybrid method that combines Fuzzy Set Theory and AHP. It has been developed to take into account uncertainty and imprecision in the evaluations. Fuzzy Set Theory requires the definition of a membership function. At present, there are no indications of how these membership functions can be constructed. In this paper, a way to calibrate the membership functions with comparisons given by the decision-maker on alternatives with known measures is proposed. This new technique is illustrated in a study measuring the most important factors in selecting a student current account.
